True. Most of the current stars are talented enough to jump back into this particular genre of hip hop. I would be cool to hear them venture into this sort of thing on a track or two.
Rakim singlehandedly changed the way people rapped. Before he came along everyone was just screaming into the mic with simple rhyme flows. Rakim raised the bar, literally. He is arguably the greatest rapper of all time. These are 35 year old raps and still dope AF and better than most.
Rakim, for those who haven't noticed, was the only MC that did all his records with no features from other rappers, all his songs, he is on the whole record by himself. Now he did features on other records, but no one featured on his, that shows his catalog of lyrice is extensive.
One thing about Rakim that stood out to me is if I’m not mistaken he never cursed on any of his songs which became career suicide for rappers in the 90’s and beyond
Yo fam,for some mindblowers,it's a must y'all have to listen to Lyrics of Fury, also Don't Sweat the Technique and from the movie Juice(1992)Know the Ledge
Rakim is my own personal GOAT his flow is unheard of even above Biggie, Nas or Em. The best part of hip hop is we may agree on 90% of the top 10 but so many will have different top 3's.
Salute for going back to the beginning and learning about this beautiful thing we call hip-hop. The only way we know where we’re going is to know where we came from.
Y'all wilding.this man changed the cadence of rhyming. Before him rappers rhymed the last words of sentences together. He rhymes every other word together and there's levels to everything he says.Hes dropping knowledge plus being witty too. Put some respect on the God MC's name. 8.5 my ass.
One of my favorite Eric B and Rakim songs is "Mahogany", he actually curses once in this song, but it's definitely dope. You should also check out "Move the Crowd", and "You Know I Got Soul"
If you want more Eric B and Rakim you should check out My Melody. That was a song that he originally wrote at like 16 years old and has in my opinion the greatest bar in hip hop. That’s where the “7 MC Theory” comes from. It doesn’t have a video to it but you will love it. That’s one of the songs that put him on the map
Its why we old school gen Xer's white or black call him the god. You young cats didnt think our old school artists couldnt spit crazy bars, listen to these 80's founding fathers of bars.Starts with the "R", then include in no order. Kool G rap, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-ONE, LL, Chuck D.
if you think about this song was made in about 1987-1988. So it’s about 35 years old. Hip Hop Music in its current state (two turntables and mic) hit 50 years in 2023. If you just start at 1979 (the year of the first record on wax) and go to 2000. You’d have 21 years worth of music to react to. Try Rakim’s “Causality if War” it was made in 1992. An interesting thing about the song is that one can make the case that Rakim predicts the 9/11 attacks that takes place 9 years later. So you can add Prophet to the God MC as well.
My Brothas, "My Melody" would be a great next reaction, because Rakim makes references to it in several other songs. THEN, "In The Ghetto" because its right up your alley.
Rakim … the greatest lyricist ever!!!
What’s important is to peep the years in which these tracks were made….this is ‘88….lyrically ahead of a lot of material that came out after.
True. Most of the current stars are talented enough to jump back into this particular genre of hip hop. I would be cool to hear them venture into this sort of thing on a track or two.
And they worked clean
Big facts
When this dropped, we went bananas. It changed how we all wrote rhymes and all.
88 was sick!
Every Rakim rhyme is a 10 out of 10. The man changed the way Emcees rapped. He ended careers in the 80s and created new emcees for the 90s and beyond.
Rakim singlehandedly changed the way people rapped. Before he came along everyone was just screaming into the mic with simple rhyme flows. Rakim raised the bar, literally. He is arguably the greatest rapper of all time. These are 35 year old raps and still dope AF and better than most.
Goat ,Nass his closest contemporary.
LL...
@@HardCold-Alquan I love LL, but no one could touch Rakim at the time.
No F bombs, no sexualization, no degrading women, no murdering rivals. Just spitting line after line of bombs. GOAT.
Rakim is the Goat!!!❤❤❤
Y'all TRIPPIN that was a 10 ALLDAY! "If that don't slow'em up I carry a full pack"🔥🔥🔫

He wasn’t lying when he said “I was a fiend,before I came a teen”….Rakim got famous at 19 years old….just think about that for a second 🤔🖤🥶
Make it longer than a second. He was 17 when ‘Eric B. For President’.
U wrong
Rakim is the reason why I started listening to hiphop
"MY MELODY"
The Song Literally CHANGED How Rapper's Rap. This was the Song by the 17 Year Old Microphone Fiend Rakim 🔥
Greatest hip hop song ever
No one during the 80s dared tried to touch Rakim. They would instantly kill their careers if they tried. He's #1 in the 80s.
Casulties of War is Rakim at his storytelling best , you're on your way to 1k gentlemen keep pushin .
best nobody write that intellectual lyric
Rakim, for those who haven't noticed, was the only MC that did all his records with no features from other rappers, all his songs, he is on the whole record by himself. Now he did features on other records, but no one featured on his, that shows his catalog of lyrice is extensive.
Damn, your Statement is Gospel.
17/10 for me.
this was one of te FIRST songs where the emcee rhymed all the way through with no hook. shit was bonkers
Here are some other hookless classics: Children’s Story by Slick Rick no hook. Peter Piper by Run DMC no hook. Paul Revere by Beastie Boys no hook.
'Let the Rhythm Hit Em' and 'Lyrics of Fury' take his rhymes to a whole other level. 'Musical Massacre' is another.
"Lyrics Of Fury" is nuts...blew my brain back then, still does
Microphone fiend has been one of my all time favorites ever since hit came out.
No Omega....His most underrated joint. 🔥🔥🔥
I love young people going back listening to classic rap songs
“Mahogany”, “I wanna know what’s on your mind” and “You and I” are 3 dope songs about the ladies by Rakim.
One of my faves be the R
One thing about Rakim that stood out to me is if I’m not mistaken he never cursed on any of his songs which became career suicide for rappers in the 90’s and beyond
THAT WAS A 10...!!!

The dudes delivery is literally breathtaking💪🏿✊🏿
One of the heavy hitters back in the day
‘The R”, “don’t sweat the technique”, 2 of my favorite cuts by them . Check them out.
Rakim is my own personal GOAT his flow is unheard of even above Biggie, Nas or Em. The best part of hip hop is we may agree on 90% of the top 10 but so many will have different top 3's.
This my favorite rap song of all time. EB and Rakim. High school years. And this shit STILL HITS!!!!
This is the rap music we grew up listening to. Rap told a story. They don't make it like this no more💯
Salute for going back to the beginning and learning about this beautiful thing we call hip-hop. The only way we know where we’re going is to know where we came from.
You have no idea...cruise with Bose speakers with the bass shuddering the ground when you're driving playing this...eternal banger
The GOAT
I get the exact same goosebumps today as I did when I was 12 listening to this masterpiece - gdamn
Some top ones is "let the rhythm hit em" and "the 18th letter" which is probably one of best.

One of Rakim's best but mostly slept on is 'As the Rhyme flows on', another on is 'Guess Who's Back'.
Knowledge will begin when I finish this song ....bars

Y'all wilding.this man changed the cadence of rhyming. Before him rappers rhymed the last words of sentences together. He rhymes every other word together and there's levels to everything he says.Hes dropping knowledge plus being witty too. Put some respect on the God MC's name. 8.5 my ass.
A crazy thing about how Rakim just blows all others away is that he never used a single cuss word in any song, ever. Think about that 😮🤔
He cursed

Y'all don't do a lot talking and I appreciate that.
Eric B & Rakim's often slept on joint "Run For Cover" is outstanding lyrically.
You could check out one of my favorite album cuts from Rakim. "Mohogany" its like a ghetto love song, but hard.
Eric B & Rakim, the first hip hop artist to sign a million-dollar contract. And one can see why.
10. That's a damn 10😂😂
Rakim lyrics of fury is his best work, the song is about the panic attack an opposing MC gets going toe to toe with him
One of my favorite Eric B and Rakim songs is "Mahogany", he actually curses once in this song, but it's definitely dope.
You should also check out "Move the Crowd", and "You Know I Got Soul"
rakim NEVER misses
This song right here is when i fell in law with hip hop. I was 12
I love the whole album.
Legend
Thing about this track is he did the entire track without a breath. He's known for his wind longevity. Try lyrics of fury

Kool G Rap also did Men At Work with the same beat, it's hard to choose which was better. They both tore it up.

The God MC moniker comes from him being a 5 Percenter (Nation of Gods and Earths) but it does also apply to his lyrical ability.
Eric b is the dj
Rakim is the rapper
Nice
Listen to Mahogany. That beat is so sick. Guaranteed it will amaze you if you never heard it.
Try listening to Don't Sweat the Technique. That's my favorite Eric B. and Rakim song.
This and My Philosophy are the two songs that changed rap for me sonically!! LL was the one who changed the sound!!
