I remember the first great Jazz Festival in my hometown of Tbilisi, in Georgia, when we still were part of the Soviet Union. It was 1989. The country was already beginning to collapse and it was incredible how they managed to bring all those great musicians like Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard, Kenny Drew, Jimmy Smith and others.
I will never forget that night when I saw Jimmy play live in front of a sellout crowd in Tbilisi Concert Hall.
It is definitely one of my best memories.
