EI7M New Rotating Tower

  • This in the new rotating Tower at East Cork Amateur Radio Group EI7M, there are three multi element Optibeams, six element 6 meter beam, and two element 40 meter beam, The tower and rotating rings, were made byJohn EI8IR and his brother Jamie over the summer months, it is tubular section, and hot dipped galvenised after fabrication, the rotator is a conveyor gearbox, with chain and sprocket drive, the stays are Phillystran nd are commercially certified, the cables are run underground to shack. Hope to hear ye all at the end of the month

    And the total cost of the project, including site prep, tower, crane, rigging and other necessary equipment and coaxes just $1500.
    That figure comes from asking the spouse.
    Just so everyone is on the same page....

    Nice work and rotates beautifully. Nice track to compliment being a musician i note these things enjoyed the music just as much see you on the bands!

    Oh my god! So I guess you guys don't know that towers hold together under COMPRESSION NOT MY EXTENSTION!!!! There have been people killed by picking towers up at the top and trying to set them down... the bolts give way. The proper way to so this it to run a cable through the center of the tower down to the bottom so that all of the weight is resting on the bottom of the tower putting all of the sections under compression. Lucky you guys weren't killed.

    That was great. All the preparation, testing the antennas before hand, appears to have paid off. The installation of the tower and then the antennas looked like they all went together very smoothly without an major problems.

    Why not put the bolts in from the top?

      So that it is easier to tell if something is off in the structure, missing or loose nut etc
