- 2013 Moto Guzzi California 1400 Touring Full Review by Tor Sagen. Plenty of bike sound, more than anybody else in fact. As we zoom in on one of the big Guzzi cylinders you can see it vibrating just like a heart. I am 6.6 feet tall guy, I rode it the other day for 300 km, the weather was hot 41+. the bike is amazing, comfortable, a lot of power, smooth. thumbs up (y)
Great review, even greater bike! I rode my first Guzzi last week, and previously didn't like the motor sticking out like that until, I rode the Grizzo 1200! Loved it so much character! This is a beautiful bike as well, looks like 2 Guzzi have stolen my heart!
A beautiful machine, good review, enjoyed it very much. Thanks for posting.
TOR: Thanks for always posting kick ass videos for us to watch. You look like you really have life dialed in. Shiny side up, brother :)
Tor, You always do a great job. Are you going to do a review of the muscle version of the bike, or moving onto a new project?
Nice review. I thought I could hear the pipes dragging when you were leaning it over!? Looking forward to testing one of these in NJ in the spring.
this bike has a heart!
great review, note though that this engine needs to be ridden between 4-5000 rpm. it requires momentum, cruising on under 3000 might even cause damage on the long run.
Tor, thanks for the review. You also reviewed the 2012 Norge. Which bike do you like better? Safe riding.
Tor, hello, I was just wondering, I live in the desert, will the engine overheat during the hottest days of summer? Cheers! great review.
Great LQQk'n bike .....but is or will there be any aftermarket for exhaust options !!?? My Grandma's sewing machine sounded meaner !
You could have commented on other important aspects such as ground clearance, instrumentation and lighting which looks different to other bikes.
Great looking bike. The exhaust is choking the bike though. That’s the only thing I’d change.
Vibration shaking on idle is it normal??
The V7 European was became the V700 here, then they used the Ambassador (750cc), After that The Eldorado (850cc), Then the California, which was a Police version of the 850 Eldorado. The LAPD also used the V1000 Convert in limited numbers but they didn't have many and were getting ready to phase-away the use of Italian bike. Yeah growing up as a boy in Los Angeles, I think they only had them from about 1970 or so till about 1977 or 78.
Man, let that bike breath! Sounds like an Italian tank! I owned a Guzzi years ago, great bike, just a huge pain to maintain.
KAY.......that was'nt the exhaust.........it was the replaceable hard scrub pad under the running board.
Sorry Griso 8V SE! Darn auto spell check! But like I said for the longest I didn't like them but I had never rode one nor hear the beautiful noise they make! The Griso V8 changed my life that day, and the California has finished me off. Now a permanent Moto Guzzi fan.
this is the bike that Harley wishes they could make.
Uh, possibly. I did notice some things I didn't like. There is no lean to this bike without scraping. You could hear it when it cornered. Parts will be much harder to obtain, especially in the future. If you don't have a Guzzi dealer near you like I don't, then servicing could be a real issue. I would still love to put one in my stable, but I'm not sure I'd sell my Road King for one. The black/white combo is amazingly beautiful and classic looking.
Now are pegs available? Seems the floorboards would limit the ride.. Also I only wish they would have called it something else - California isn't the most desirable place for decades now..
Hi Tor, can a beginner biker get this bike? or its just too heavy/powerful?. Im not into racing, just cruising safely.
gaae2000 I have the same question. I am getting my license in november if I pass my exam. I want to start with this one, the audace or the eldorado if possible. Otherwise I will start with the V9.
This is a very good looking bike. But it has Triumph Rocket 3 competition. I would not know which one to choose. Needs a test drive...
Gearbox is a bit clunky. Don't like the headlight. Not keen on the exhaust going through the crash bars.
How many times are you going to mention the full bike name?
Which bike is more fun Aprilia Dorso 1200 or Tuono v4r?
In Europe are the noise regulations very strict, so no noisyer exhaust available by Moto Guzzi, but some exhaust makers will make "only for race" pipes...
is it just me or do the guzzi engines have a lot of valve train noise? cracks me up that he scrapes the pegs in the turns
I'm looking for a used one.
la moto guzzi e la piu bella delmondo e troppo bella e una moto istancabile e manegievole
and sounds like a car too, ie: purrs! A Guzzi growls ... and even the 700 classic turns heads
I really hate the sound of the stock exhaust.
0:40 Are you kidding me. Sorry but I have to get my can opener ;) Lovely bike
si on pouvait traduire ce serais bien !
con la guzzi di diverti nelle curve diciamo e una moto completa
Go to this video and you will see the sedans get bullet holes in the windshields: "Los Angeles Police Historical Society Museum Promo ".
Fascinating bikes, but it gets HOT in the summer where I live. I can't imagine having my shins almost touching air-cooled cylinders. You'd have to wear asbestos jeans.
Mickey Bitsko I live in the tropics the Cal is no problem
sounds like Ford model T
has yet long way to go to be as sweet as Honda Valkyrie.... long long way....
@ 38 sec. this nice bike has no chance to breathe because of the smale whole what they call exhaust :-(
the V engines are out of indian's last days . model is called the 841 - there's no particular history in stealing an idea and promoting it as an italian bike....
www.paesefelix.ch/index%20indian.htm
esther frei-scandella The 841 was a side valve engine. Totally different engine principle.
Good review, but what I hear is that it's hot on the legs, under-suspended, and grande enorme! Perhaps a tad too American?
Yes it is a little hot in summer. Because of this, it has extended
my bike riding all year long. Small price to pay!
needs pipes
0:38-0:48 Epic fail! =)
What I learnt from this review, the exhaust grinds the road horribly when cornering and it sounds like an old lawnmower. Think I will stick to BMW.
KAY Realms Do you work for BMW?
KAY Realms Please do stick to BMW. One of the best things about Guzzi is that idiots like you don't buy em.
The foot beds actually have sacrificial studs that grind to let you know that your at maximum lean angle! The exhausts are no where near the road as the lowest point in corner would be the foot beds. There's no othercruiser with no shaft driven, 3 map settings, twin spark plug, ABS, cruise control, brembo brakes for a cruiser out there, it has the same ECU as Aprillia RSV 4 superbike! And only a idiot would a comment like you made with out actually spending time riding one, arm chair rider!
+KAY Realms
I own 2 BMW's and I would LOVE to own this bike.l
+Robert Payne Beautiful motorcycle. If I ever got rid of my wing this is what I would have.
Well a 1978 Yamaha XSEleven with 1979 carbs would eat it for lunch.
No thanks, I want a smooth engine.
it is amazingly smooth, tons of power
ODIO LA PUBLICIDAD EN TH-cam !!!!
Must be what he's using to record on because the valves sound really awful -like they're broken in the flopping around. Love the looks of the bike, except the bags. Trash those things. If you want to haul stuff-get a car or truck. The same with chicks. NO, get your own. I'm staying out of that lawsuit.
beautiful on road ...ugly in service
The bike sucks ass.
Why?
The funniest thing is the switch of led light located in the body under the handlebar 😂😂😂😂 silly design
