- Decluttering is VERY tough for me! It definitely doesn't come easy for me to film a closet tour because I thought it was going to look like that forever. Closet organization has been at the top of my TO DO list for several years. As a working mom, it was hard to find the time! But I gave myself 2 days and I did it! I'm so proud of myself :) Thanks for watching!

There is so much power in getting things in order! I really appreciate that you showed the real closet not a "staged" version. The fact that you picked up the camera even when you could feel yourself being overwhelmed, was awe inspiring. This was a hard won victory and I am happy to of witnessed it.

If you haven't gone through those bins in YEARS, just trash them, obviously there's nothing in them that you want or need.
Also someone once said, don't hold on to things because you spent money on them and you feel like it's a waste. The money has already been spent, so the waste has already occurred. The real shame is the continued waste of keeping those things and NOT using them, instead of giving it to someone who could use them!!

I use to be like that. I couldn't get rid of things I spent money on or if someone else spent money on. Then I ran a non profit thrift store for 2 years and saw how much stuff people get rid of that other people genuinely blessed to get!!! Now I always have a donation box/bag. If something new comes in something has to go.
Letting go of stuff is not actually wasting money. Money was wasted the moment you bought an item in first place. Things that just sitting in your home is a waste. Try to set a timer each time, maybe for only 30 mins. That way you won’t be overwhelmed. Also I follow Allie Cassaza. She helped me a lot with decluttering :)
My favourite part of this video was when you showed the “after” because I could actually HEAR the happiness/Relief in your voice. It was almost as if you were holding so much weight on your shoulders and someone just lifted it off you and you could breathe properly again. So inspiring! I love the feeling of decluttering so much I do it like once every 3 months 😂

If it helps, the “finances mindset” you’re having trouble with is actually an example of the Sunk Cost Fallacy. Whether you choose to keep or get rid of an item, the money has already been spent. That money is GONE either way, so it isn’t a factor at all. So the two options you’re left with are
1: you spent x dollars and you’re keeping something that will add clutter and stress to your life, or
2: you spent x dollars and you’re removing a source of clutter and stress from your life.

Have you watched Clutterbug? She identifies 4 different organizing and cleaning methods. She believes that not everybody organizes or cleans the same way, and that the mainstream organizing methods and products are only geared towards certain people.
She really opens your eyes to what your method should be.
Yes!! I looove Cass from Clutterbug. I just found out I am a ladybug...she is one too, maybe that is why I love her so much.

If you haven’t worn anything in two years give it away. Also you should put your summer stuff in a bin and maybe put it in the garage or basement to make room for your winter clothes. You can change clothes out seasonally. In my head though I am screaming “just throw it out because it still stays in your home until you go to discard them at MAC or Best Buy. There I made some decisions for you! 😊
I decided all my clothes every season must fit in the closet. I decided 10 long sleeve and 10 t-shirts. I have 3 pair of jeans and a pair of black pants. I have two sweatshirts. The rest like pjs, and stuff is my dresser. It has made my life so much easier when it is cold one day and hot the next day. I don't have to search for something to wear.

I just cleaned out my make up and hair products yesterday. Jia apply the same energy you have for finances on making decisions to keep things in order in your home. It all works together
Yayyyy Jia!! My closet looks like your before pic (hangs head in shame). I have been on a decluttering binge as well. You hit the nail on the head about not making it look pretty at first, but just decluttering and then maintaining the cleaned space before investing in pretty organizational tools. Do you find that you guard your newly decluttered spaces like a Mama Bear? I dare a member of my family to mess up my newly decluttered and organized kitchen...lol.

Awesome job!! I did this about 3 months ago and then for Christmas asked for a bunch of IKEA gift cards to completely redo our closet! We have halfway done building it.

Hey, I am like you, I don't wear much makeup and I forced myself to get rid of most of it the other day but I am so much happier now! everything I kept fits in one small bag and I can find what I want easily. I never thought about whether it was safe to throw away in the trash though.

Not sure if you see/read comments from old videos, but
In the future, try freecycle.org. I post things I dont want on there, and folks who can use it or need it come to the house and pick it up. I usually just leave in a bag on the bench at the end of our driveway. Makeup, perfume, body creams and lotions. Shoes, clothing, glasses etc. I shared a TON of old contacts. It feels great to help someone and it keeps stuff out of the landfills

Clutterbugs recent videos on which bug you are should help you understand how your brain works and the reasons you may follow Alejandra is because maybe you’re actually a bee? I follow at home with Nikki because I’m a cricket as she is too I think. So I gravitate towards her. Congrats on your progress. The simplicity challenge seems great. I used konmari and clutterbugs decluttering challenge and it has helped so much.
Make the hangers all the same color!!!!!!!! Simplify and make your life easier.

You did such an awesome job and I heard Kathryn from doitonadime say "that you shouldn't feel bad about getting rid of stuff bc you feel bad about wasting money because She said that you already spent the money so, the damage is already done". That helped me so much. When I was going through stuff I didn't think about money bc of that.

Oh, and there's an awesome organization called Beauty Wishes that you can mail your makeup, skin care and body care products to - they sanitize the makeup and are able to distribute it to different women's shelters. (I'm sure this is too late, as you probably already figured out what you're going to do with all that excess makeup, but for future reference) 😊

You can give cosmetic stuff to homeless shelter for women . Also clothes and linens{blankets and things}. Churches a lot of times have donation places for the needy.
