    Extremely impressed that a front tyre with that compromise type pattern is so stable in the soft sand! Especially when you were criss crossing other deep wheel ruts, quite amazing. Bloody good test that is for sure! I am certainly going to consider these in future.

    Most excellent video. Enjoyed it very much. Happy to see your rear tire held up on the rim. I ride the same bike and lost the bead on the rear tire at 10 psi while riding deep sand.
    By the way, your deep sand skills are great. Not easy on the big lady! Marcos from Oregon, USA.

    If you’re still looking for a way to lock your tyre to the rim you could look into the Tubliss system. It acts as a 360 degree rim lock and you could run lower than 10psi. Only drawback is that it isn’t supposed to be used on road bikes, and I’m not sure if your rim would perhaps be too wide for it?

    • @mel22b
      @mel22b 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ive looked into this and have always wondered if it would work on these big ADV bikes. The centre channel on the rear rim is really wide compared to a dirt bike. Not sure if it would work.

    Be fore you mount your tyre take a rag with a li'l kerosene scrub the beads till they get sticky. Kerosene Is also an excellent slippy for mounting as it disappears quick. Really quick in the heat. Of corse make sure the seat area on the rim is clean/deglased light sand paper steel wool tyre shouldn't slip on the rim after that

    • @mostlymotorcycles.

    • @mostlymotorcycles.
      @mostlymotorcycles.  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I’m travelling light, I use CO2 canisters. 3 is enough for 1 inflation of the rear so I carry 6 with plugs of course.
      I also have a small 12v compressor I take for long haul trips. I’ve shaved it down to save weight and I’m not sure of the brand. A mate gave it to me years back. It’s not light, weighing in at around 1.5kgs.

    • @mostlymotorcycles.
      @mostlymotorcycles.  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It’s necessary to reduce pressure for soft sand, the lower the better.
      But as you saw from the video without rim locks the tyre will drift around the rim.
      There is an old saying from dirt riders that goes,
      Soft on Soft and Hard on Hard.
      Just means soft suspension settings and soft tyres on soft surface, mud / sand
      And vice versa for rocky terrain.

I keep my 2018 1290 at the recommended psi and it handles just fine in any environmental sand, mud, snow, ice the bike is a beast in power, so I don't need to do any drop in PSI. Like anything practice.
      But a few things make it more easy.
      Low tyre pressure, letting the bike wander don't fight it to much. Lots of power. Stay off the breaks until the last second. Keep your weight off the front wheel, until you have to turn.
