If you were half the man your wife married you'd have a dyneema tent....I can't believe you took her on a first trip without dyneema. Were you not a bit embarrassed when everyone else went into their packs and whipped out a big ol dyneema Duplex and you were just standing there like a drip with your limp ass Big Agnes....Damn, you got a pair. I'll bet she just rolled over and looked longingly out of the nylon mesh....you thought she was sleeping.
ive been there in the 90's. i took a hike to the other side of the lake. went to the top and found a old camp fire. kind of dangerous with all the big boulders one could fall between and get trapped. kind of like 127 hours vibe. great memory.
@@MattShafter Yes it is! Great beginner spot too. Heading up tomorrow with my wife and a couple of her teacher friends that are first time backpackers. Great video by the way!!🤘
I do like the videos of gear review... but I also like this style of video to just put on a playlist and run in the background while I'm working. Could watch that dozens of times.
You two have to hit up Dinkey Lakes next! It's cool seeing you hit up the hikes local to me. Jennie lake is not usually that empty, assuming you went on a weekend. Typically it's a zoo, compared to most lakes in that area. There's a few off trail lakes in the area that are interesting - in particular, Brothers Lake. I'm looking forward to your take on various trips local to me! Perhaps I'll see you on the trail at some point. I'll be the only ultralighter you'll likely see - after 5 years of backpacking the less common routes in the area, I rarely see any ultralighters unless it's on the JMT or HST.
I'm love you including the trip videos. The trips are basically what ultralight's goal is. Beautiful place, reminded me of Desolation Wilderness 🙂🙂🌱🌱🌳🌳🏔️🏔️!
@@MattShafter I wouldn't Matt! Craig Adams also talks gear and everything related with his hiking in one channel (at least it's what I remember). I'd would change the message about your channel to include your films ... Starting another channel seems very time consuming. Unless you have the time 🙂🙂👍😊😊!
Hey Matt, I hope that you are well. I think the voice over worked really well with this trip... I have done it a few times too with mixed results... I clicked the Craig Adams link and had quick look at his channel and looks good so subbed... Looking forward to your next one ATB Tom
Matt...OMG, I've hiked the Tahoe Rim Trail, JMT, Trans Catalina Trail, and many sections of the PCT, but didn't know that you didn't need permits for Jennie Lake! I'm always looking for a place to do over nighters with my older daughters. Big Meadows Trailhead is only 1 hour 40 minutes from my front door. Thanks for the info and are you still carrying a KS pack? I've had two of them.
I love this format. The footage looks beautiful and you have that je ne sais quoi that makes your pieces appealing. Some longer forms of this would be greatly appreciated. Reveal yourself Mr. Shafter your audience is waiting.
What’s dyneema? Hahaha. I like the voiceover and your style. Nice and quiet just like the forest. Check out Layne’s World, I like his trip videos as well. Thanks for sharing sir
There's a catch-22 about sharing and promoting wilderness destinations. We love these experiences for their solitude and want to share what we love, but sharing erodes the very thing we love about it. Now Jennie Lake isn't a particularly well kept secret, but most of what you love it for will be lost if you game that algorithm well enough.
I'm just here for the "why do you have a non dyneema tent" comments. 😁

Like the style of video! Dinkey Lakes is the jam!!
Love the style of this video. Well done
Thanks so much!
love the GigaPump!
It's flippin GigaGreat ... no brainer on overnight trips where you're barely carrying food.

Sounds intense!
I love Kraig Adams videos. I found you last yr. looking for ways to lighten my load. Thanks for the info !!!
Did your load lighten?! Thank you!
Central California, Jennie Lakes Wilderness Sequoia NF👍
It’s good one.

Hrmmmmm see you out there
I second Donkey Lakes area. There's like a dozen lakes all within 20 minutes of each other. Also, there is Twin Lakes just above Huntington Lake.
I’ve often sat at the Rock Table and thought of all the people who’ve shared a meal there.
Such a good place to eat!

Should I do a new channel just fer films?

I have a whole video on it! It’s just a buff going over that stuff sack.

Thanks for the feedback Tom!
Great tent - Big Agnes rocks - how is for an UL backpacker to carry that big nice camera - I like your style 💁
Hans!!!! It's a 2 kilo camera setup!!!
Hi Matt it’s nothing…. remember rest of your gear is UL 😂
Jeanie is one of my favorite local areas.
See you there!!!
Use freemanwalking too lol cheers . BTW. Its great your back to putting up some gr8 footage
ALGORITHM! Thanks freeman.
So you don’t need any type of permit to camp next toJennie lake? What if you want a fire, I’m sure you need a fire permit, right?
Fire yes. Watch that video and print it out
..cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you…
Thanks friend!!

New sub! Liked 🙏😃🤣🤣😄
Woooooo thanks
I dug the ‘style’. Super enjoyable to view and simple….sometimes complex and flashy…..sucks
Plus who wants to edit all that flash? Thank you!
I spy a heavy sleeping pad inflator! Does someone need a 10.1 gram Pad-Pal? ;)
P.S. Love this video format!
Shhhhhhhhhhhhh

Long forms will be coming up! I'm taking two months off soon and doing "big" trips.

long live the algorithm
Yeah boyyyyyy
We did it again!

I haven’t figured out the algorithm yet!!!! Lol
Why didn't you wear pigtails too? You and Sarah could have matched.
ill grow them NOW!!
As soon as I saw the Subaru I stopped watching
Why? Did "some damn dirty Jap" take out your dad on Tinian Island?
