    Pro tip💥 The Asterix in the corner of the Costco price signs means that the item is leaving the store. Buy it when you see it or it’s gone until next year maybe forever.

    Hello Becky. I love your channel. You have such a wonderful bubbly personality. Did you know you could easily make your own potting mix for seed starting by using a big compressed bag of peat moss and a big bag of vermiculite. Ratio of about 3:1. And then sterilize it yourself by pouring boiling water over it. Then when you go to up pot your little seedlings you can add amendments like worm castings or fertilizers. You can save a lot of money by mixing up your own. I know you’re no longer practicing but I too am a dental hygienist that loves to grow my own food. Happy gardening this season. 😃

    For the organizers: I only have 1 set from Costco and I use them for specific purposes. I use the smaller ones to hold my eggs and bacon/meat defrosting and I use the larger ones for cheese and cold cuts. I only have the 4 currently because I worry that I will just shove them to the sides rather than use them properly.

    You asked about the refrigerator bins. I bought a set and have found they really enhance refrigerator storage. First, I use them for holding fresh meat and or meat I have pulled from freezer to thaw. Doing that, I no longer need to worry about drips from packages happening. Next, I use them to hold soda cans and bottles of water. Very helpful to keep drinks from being knocked around in the refrigerator. Finally, I use them to hold fresh produce, Right now, mine is holding celery, cucumbers, peppers. You can see what you have in stock, and pull out the container for prepping. The interior of my refrigerator is so much cleaner now. In addition, I have a lazy susan that holds my pickled condiments. We love different types of pickles, and I can turn them to see which I want. So, feel free to try them. They have also served as pantry organizers and drawer organizers. Very versatile.

    I know this is a late comment, but I just bought a house with a Willow tree in a small front yard. It was growing so fast that it was tearing up our cement walkway/steps up to our front door. I had one fall with this tree and the leaves were so horrible. The long stems come down and fly everywhere and into my neighbor's yard. FOr this reason, we had to remove the tree. It was so beautiful. But it was the wrong spot for it. I reccomend a very very big open space for it. and possibly someplace that you don't mind the leave just going everywhere for. love your videos!

    Re storage bins. After my last fridge clean and having to soak off "mystery spills" from the shelves and bottom, I went with bins. I found them at home goods. I don't have a salad crisper drawer and shoving fresh veggies in shelves they were getting lost. My whole fridge is organized, fresh meats go in one (incase it leaks before I cook it) sour cream/cottage cheese in another, circular turntable for daily used condiments (my favorite) a big one for veggies, one for yogurts parmesan cheeses, one for pickles and fermented foods, milk and cream run along one side of the upper, jars of bacon grease line the back of the upper shelves. eggs go in the bottom stacked on each other. For the 1st time I know where everything is and no spills and no more waste. Yay! Did the same with the freezer above.

    I use my organizers in my fridge and in my pantry. They're nice to keep smaller items from getting pushed to the back. I have one that has all of my homemade Chinese ingredients, and I have one for my cartons of egg whites from Costco. You get the idea. I have both the shorter and taller ones for my pantry to keep like items together. I use the taller ones for bottles of vinegar, oils, sauces, etc. I got all of mine off of Amazon. They have bundles you can get for a fairly good price. One set came with an egg storage, and I use that to put my hard-boiled eggs in so it wouldn't be a wasteful spend.

    It's totally ok to use the occasional bleach in the washer as it is diluted. You can also use septic enzymes to keep the tank in good working order. I like using Oxyclean in towels and dish/washcloths, as well.

    • @MommaLousKitchen
      @MommaLousKitchen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @renabarnett2238
      @renabarnett2238 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Was going to say, a load a day with bleach in it is just fine for septic system. You want to avoid pouring straight bleach down your drain but diluted is fine.

    • @laurab8547
      @laurab8547 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, we have an aerating septic system and we can use bleach products just fine as it uses bleach tablets to help break down the solids but we just can't use any antibacterial hand soap products because those kill the beneficial bacteria in the system.

    The only organizer stuff for the fridge that I have and use is 2 containers for eggs and 2 containers for milk because we use milk in bags here. I can stack something on top of the milk organizers and still get the milk bags out of the bottom the way it opens. The egg containers I like because I can see how many eggs we have left easily and not have to open the paper cartons all the time. The rest I feel personally they take up to much space in order to organize, especially in my case with a larger family.

    We like VItamix and Kitchen Aid too here at the homestead. My mom currently has two sizes of kitchen aid (we use both of them regularly). One is that same size you saw at Costco, the other is the more normal smaller size. My Mom has owned three of the normal sized ones and just two of the large ones in 55 years with nearly daily use for making breads, grinding wheat, slicing, making orange juice, etc. I think the work we put the kitchen aids through and the vitamix through is a testimony of how good they are. The different sizes have thier good points.

    Oh wow, the new York steak in au is over $80 for 3 steaks!!! I wish we got the same stuff here, some of it is but the things I want seem to only be in USA. I use containers to sort my fridge, I have a tub for cheese and dairy, one for salad things, one for fruit and one for veg. Then I use the vege crisper dras for condiments and spreads etc. I don't like them on the shelf as they get lost or knocked off. In a draw I can see all of them and nothing gets missed. In the door I have juice and milk and bottles that are too tall for the draws. It's been working great and so much less gets missed. The crispers stay clean and the tube are super easy to clean every week.
    I love my class for containers too. I use them every day, sadly the lid went in the dishwasher and they are now bent and splitting wet. Before the dishwasher they looked new at 8 yrs old!!!

    Most costcos try to source local to keep prices down. It's a part of their company policy. What they can't get local or provide themselves they outsource. I'm on the central coast Cali and the wine section is full of local wines. Whole chickens here are at 1.29 a pound for the double pack.

    We have those Adirondack chairs around one of our fire pits. They are very comfortable. We had beautiful wooden ones custom made when we lived in NY. When we moved they got ruined. We hope to find some nice wood ones for another seating area in the garden. But I’m surprised at how comfortable those from Costco are.
    I need to go to Costco soon. Haven’t been since fall. I hope we have that grass fed butter!

    Yes, Costco goes for local wines. I live in Sonoma County, and we have a ton of local wines. I work at Costco and it's a great store to shop and work for. I do have to leave my cards, money and check book at home. I would not have any money but would have cool stuff. Yes, I have put organic potatoes from Costco in the ground when they started sprouting. I have gotten a lot of new potato's out of it. I have the cloth wheel barrel and it's really nice. It does wash out and stays fairly clean. I just use it for the garden. I have seen other people use it to tote their kids and toys in. The PB fit is a sell out at our store. It's hard to find. Thank you for taking us along on your shopping tour. :) The best part about working at Costco on the registers is that I get to shop all day and not spend a dime.

    We just bought the the kids water bottles yesterday! It’s a GREAT price. Totally worth it especially because some kids water cups are at least $10+.

    Powdered peanut butter is brilliant. I have had weight loss surgery and being able to add the peanut powder to give me extra protein without it taking up too much space in my belly is perfect. Tastes great.

    @13:00 mom has something similar to these in her fridge to store jars mainly ( condiments). I honestly don’t like them since I feel they waste some space. Although they look neater and easier to grab

    The fire roasted hatch chilis you walked by are amazing....
    Caesar salad kit used to be 3.99, now 8.99!
    Interesting how many things our Costco doesn't carry any more (can't get, they say...), your Costco still has. Importantly, the bag of peel garlic.... It makes the most gloriously sweet fermented garlic. A.Ma.Zing.

    I have not been able to find the kitchen scissors I had at one time. They were really good and came apart into two pieces so I could get them clean. I never have liked the ones that don’t come apart I don’t feel you can ever get them clean between the blades at the pivot.

    I waited until the refrigerator containers were at Aldi or on sale at different stores. I like them to keep my refrigerator organized; however, my family just stuffs whatever in them and ruins my organization system! Lol I hope your family is better trained than mine.

    I went to Costco March 1st. I was so excited for a shopping trip after pantry challenge. I need to go back and pick up a couple of things I was eyeing. Every time I go there some extra stuff ends up in my cart. That place is dangerous for my budget. lol
