      Michael Biehn who plays Reece here also featured in Aliens from 1986. James Cameron used a lot of same actors, actresses in his films at this time. Terminator 2 was more explosive compared to this which cost only £6m or so to make.

      Did you read the comment? Looks like she already did.
      If not, PLEASE do the THEATRICAL cut of Terminator 2. (AKA T2 Judgement Day).
      Most of the extra scenes in the extended cut are too cringe for me. They also just slow down a top tier action flick. They were cut for a reason.

    • @JohnSmith-jn7nc
      @JohnSmith-jn7nc 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mrhobsSo I guess you're not too much interested in the story, characters, deeper meanings, etc. in action film but rather in suspense, action and special effects? It's not necessary an issue but action films in my mind should more than that. Especially when they dealing with heavy themes such as the Terminator franchise does
      I agree that some of the extra scenes are a bit cheesy (smiling scene in particular) but others add more to the story and the characters
      Miles Dyson familly scene comes to mind. I don't want to dwell too much into that sequence but I'm pretty sure you can guess why I mentioned it as an example of what I'm trying to say. This particular sequence is great in so many ways. It really profounds Miles Dyson as a character. You can understand why he's doing what he's doing which makes him somewhat relatable because he's just normal person being passionate with his job. The sequence should've not been cut out from the theatrical cut of the film. It's a shame really

    • @mrhobs
      @mrhobs 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JohnSmith-jn7nc I understand the case you're making for story over action, which isn't really what I was talking about. Let's not make this action vs story, they go together. I'm going to ignore what you said about my preferences, because even if you say its not an issue, to me it is. I don't want to be characterized as some bone headed action junky. Of course the story is the most important part.
      The angle I'm coming from is that of a film geek who loves a tightly crafted movie. In filmmaking, as you know, you have to cut absolutely everything that doesn't move the story forward. Sometimes you have to sacrifice amazing bits of story detail in order to keep the momentum going and building in order to have a satisfying end.
      I'm actually on your side here, in part, as I do after all find the extended Lord of the Rings films mostly better. (Though as the years go on, I'm starting to appreciate the theatrical cuts a bit more... at least for one or two of the films. Personally I would recommend new viewers watch the extended Fellowship, then theatrical Two Towers and Return of the King, THEN wait a year or two, and watch only the extended versions... or not, extended versions are fine.)
      Its fine if you like the extended T2, but to me, most scenes that were added back in already have other scenes that communicate the same thing. I don't like the redundancy. The smiling bit is a good example... there are other scenes that cover this well enough. The worst offender to me is the scene with Kyle, its just too sappy and cringe, it doesn't do Sarah's character justice. (As much as I wish Kyle could have been in the movie... that was not the way.) I would be embarrassed to show a new fan that version of T2 for their first viewing.
      Well I barely remember the Miles Dyson extra scene, maybe you have a good point there, I'll have to watch it again, I'm sure its interesting, but all the scenes I remember are either cringe, or have bits of dialogue that are repeated from other scenes. That's the main reason I can't watch that version. Feels like I'm watching them tell me the same thing twice or more times. It gets unnatural, and takes me out of the movie.

      While true later, that wasn't their original purpose. Originally they mimicked the opening and closing overtures that were common at musical plays and before that symphonies. The first 'Terminator' movie launched the careers of Arnold Schwarzenegger and director James Cameron and his then-wife Gale Anne Hurd (who would work on 'The Walking Dead' series) ... Actress Linda Hamilton also did the 'T2' sequel (She will be on the final season of 'Stranger Things' series) ... Actor Lance Henriksen was supposed to be the original 'Terminator'(an ordinary, faceless assassin) but Arnold read the script and wanted to play the 'Terminator'... so, Lance Henriksen played police detective Vukovich in the movie. Lance Henriksen did star as the android 'Bishop' in another James Cameron film 'Aliens'... and actor Michael Biehn who played the soldier 'Kyle Reese' also had a decent Hollywood career.
    Arnold was a celebrity bodybuilder from Austria at the time and was looking for an acting career in Hollywood... 'The Terminator' gave him a huge hit and a massive career in the 80's... He went on to make more action hits like - 'Predator' ... 'Commando' ... 'Conan the Barbarian'... but he also made comedy movies like 'Kindergarten Cop'... 'Twins'...
    In 1991, Arnold, Linda Hamilton and director James Cameron did the sequel 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day'... and it outshone the first movie.
    Arnold did 'Terminator 3'... but without Cameron or Hamilton involved... it did well for its time.
    Subsequent 'Terminator' movies were not remarkable and strayed from the original concept/ timeline... 'Terminator: Salvation' (#4) was the last good one, but it was done without Arnold.

    A classic of course. It was quite low budget but they did a lot with what they had. And of course over time it turned into the endless series, where they could just reboot it into anything they wanted. The second one was the peak, where the success of this one gave them a considerably bigger budget. And, though it was one of the ones where they just changed it to be whatever they wanted, Terminator Genesys is a pretty interesting one.

    • @BuccWylde
      @BuccWylde 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Technically the X rating was a possible MPAA rating until 1990, but because of the porn industry's use of the rating, by the mid 70s, no studio would submit a film that would potentially get that rating because it would be financial doom for the film. A Clockwork Orange received an X rating in '71 and Last Tango In Paris was the last mainstream film to be released with such a rating in 1972.

  • @AlbertHuebsch
    @AlbertHuebsch 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    The possibility for the rating difference is that back in 1984 the film rating board had not added the pg-13 get so that anything that was deemed to excessive for a pg rating was given an r rating.

    • @TheShockninja
      @TheShockninja 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Two movies in particular, "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and *Gremlins" influenced the PG-13 rating because of the frightening content (both were PG). The first film to be given that rating was "Red Dawn" .

  • @The_Dudester
    @The_Dudester 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    An explanation of the rating system:
    1) Use the F word twice and it will be enough for an R rating (other curse words are okay, as long as it isn't excessive).
    2) Speaking of excessive, twice in the 1976 Bad News Bears, a kid rolls out a list of racial epithets, back then, no big deal, but use that kind of language today and you will get an R rating.
    3) Bare female breasts is not enough for an R rating, but bare breasts in a sexual context will bump it up to an R rating.
    4) Use of violence is a judgement call when the MPAA board watches the movie. Most of the time violence, and even gruesome violence, will only earn only a PG-13 rating.
    5) A movie doesn't have to be rated by the MPAA. A film production company can skip the entire MPAA process, but that's a roll of the dice and you better have an extremely successful social media campaign to make any money on the movie. Movies have skipped the MPAA process and made bank with an UNRATED classification.
    6) Europe, completely the opposite process. Nudity is no big deal in the European market. Kids can watch a movie with nudity because of the prevalence of nude beaches (and topless sunbathing in public parks and other public places) across Europe. Violence, on the other hand, and the movie will get an adult only rating. This is why Verdy was surprised at the 13+ rating.

      I think American Prudery is getting worse instead of better. No skin at all in the movie Superbad, but still gross dancing scene aftermath. Compare this with Fast Times at Ridgemont High. What really stood out for me was Clash of the Titans in 81. Some brief nude scenes, but the remake of the movie, no skin at all. They even had a CGI Medusa with covered breasts! Looked like she was covered with a blindfold. Looked so gratuitous, and ridiculous I burst out laughing

    The Terminator and T2 were the Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back for my generation.
    The Terminator is possibly the greatest "B-movie" ever made. By that i mean, it is the greatest low-budget sci-fi ever produced. Some of the effects stand out like a sore thumb. But The Terminator is still a great inspiration for future filmmakers. Cameron showed us what can be possible on a small budget and its freaking amazing.
    T2 on the other hand is the greatest action movie ever made. Cameron showed us whats possible once youve established yourself in the industry. And its freaking phenomenal.
    I mean, Linda Hamilton was so great in T2, she made Sarah Connor one of the greatest, strongest, most iconic female roles ever put on film. Her Sarah Connor is right up there with Cameron's own Ellen Ripley in Aliens and Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind.

    Deroit Become Human, It is similar in a way to "The Terminator" T-800 Cyberdyne System model 101 series cyborg. Technology has evolved to a point where human like androids are everywhere. They speak, move ,and behave like human beings, but they are only machines serving humans. Play three distinct androids and see a world at the brink of chaos - perhaps our future - through their eyes.
    After watching "The Terminator", you need to watch "Terminator 2" (Judgement Day), then you need to watch "Alien" (1979) & "Aliens" (1986). Few were cast in "The Terminator" like Bill Paxton (Punk Leader), Michael Biehn (Kyle Reese), and Lance Henrikson (Detective Hal Vukovich) cast in Aliens (1986). You will be immersed in watching the movies.

    Famous movies for you see after "The Terminator" would include "Alien," "Blade Runner," "The Matrix, "Silence of the Lambs," "Tombstone," "The Shining," "Jaws," and so many more. You're going to have a lot of fun!

    Fun reaction! Love how intensely you watch and give full attention. Charming how you hide your face during intense scenes. Gremlins and Temple of Doom were the "culprits" that inspired PG 13 rating. Moms were taking kids out of the theatre left and right after certain kitchen scene in Gremlins. Parents and kids undoubtedly thought latest Spielberg creature movie was going to be all heart warming like E T, but this time with widdle fuzzy critters. ha ha

    1. Linda Hamilton ROCKED. She's really built in T2. "Terminator 2 Judgement Day" is the action movie GOAT.
    2. Along with Lance Henriksen/Vukovich, Michael Biehn/Reese and Bill Paxton/punk also played in "Aliens" as Bishop, Hicks and Hudson respectively.
    3.We have limited AI now. So does China.😱
    4. If this wasn't a movie the ammunition would not have been available on the gun shop counter.
    5. Ginger's boyfriend Matt must be a lousy lay if she needs rock and roll to "rock and roll".🙄
    6. Watching people react to the eye operation is worth watching this all by itself.
    7. THAT'S a bitch slap.😏

    The Terminator's eyebrows were burned 🔥 off from the explosion just prior to his punching 👊 through the windshield to grab Sarah Connor.
    The look makes him more intimidating and scary. Even a bit eerie. Like he's not quite human. Almost like he's an unstoppable Frankenstein monster! -OG

    The point of the Credits at the beginning, was that back then most films were made to be watched in Cinemas. VHS, / Renting tapes from a shop was pretty new. So you go to a cinema, watch a film, and in the pre 70's in the UK (probably Canada too) the last thing after the film is they play the National Anthem "God save the whatever". NO ONE stayed for that. As soon as the film finished there was a mad rush for the doors. If the Credits were at the end, then you would still bugger off as soon as they started. So no one ever saw them - HOWEVER if the Credits are at the beginning, then you have no choice but to sit through them, if you want to see the film

    The reason for the different ratings in different countries is because in one of the early scenes, when Arnold emerges, his penis is visible. That's a no-no in some countries - other countries, not so much.

    I only watched this because you have a T3 reaction. So I want to see your reaction to T1 and then T2 and then T3. I loved this one and am on to the next two. People that say T3 and beyond are trash. The first 2 are the best but why hate on the rest? T3 is really good as well as the very last one called Dark Fate. But the ones in between are still good movies. I hope you watch them all!

  • @DV80s
    @DV80s 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    p.s. if you want to know when beginning credits ended, I believe that was with George Lucas's first Star Wars, the original trilogy, came out, apparently the writers' union or something forced all movies to have credits at the beginning, but they didn't think Star Wars gonna gonna be a hit, so they didn't care it didn't have them at the start. When it became a hit, they sued for Lucas to put them in Empire Strikes back but the judge said since they didn't demand them in the first Star Wars, they didn't have a case any more.
    Something like that.
    p.s. 2 I personally love credits with music at the start, sets the mood as they bring you into the movie.
