Hello Jim, this is best Uriah Heep album, Live is also great and Look At Yourself.. Do you hear last album ? is very good. Classic band and fantastic music. Best from Poland.
"Demons and Wizards" and "Look at Yourself" are the masterpieces of Uriah Heep, "The Magician's Birthday" is also a great album, a little below but still very good, they form the golden trilogy of Uriah Heep from the beginning of the 70's.
So, so glad you liked this album. Uriah Heep were very unfashionable even to rock fans back in the day. They were (wrongly in my mind) always regarded as second rate especially to the likes of Deep Purple even though I was a Purple fan. All the early albums were classics in their own right but Demons and Wizards was the album that really made them popular even if it still didn't make them fashionable. I loved it then and love it now.
Poor man's purple To be fair they were keyboard driven and had a singer with a similar voice But their 70s stuff very enjoyable and last few albums with Bernie have been very enjoyable too
Well said buddy, heep were always slated off, yet there were better than all of them..only purple came close...ive seen them all zeppelin, sabbath who were great..the big 3 were zeppelin sabbath and purple..heep were looked down on by other fans especially snobs ie King crimson yes ELP etc. Yet a lot of my mates were sabbath and purple fans and liked heep. It's mainly those arty fatty twats. King crimson fan's got upset when Wetton joined heep LOL 😂 talk about missing the point. Twats and snobs what what.
It speaks volumes all the heep and rock fans love this album, its a gem..that line up was amazing, Gary was an epic bass player..so magical bass lines, David was a great singer And front man. Ken wrote a lot of there tunes and Lee was brilliant drummer..mick is the last man standing from 70s..long live the past and 70s. Heep forever....best band best fan's ,still going strong 👍🎵🎹🎶🎸
Thank you Jim for featuring one of my favourite bands out of the 70’s. While Uriah Heep did not possess individually the best singer, keyboard player, drummer, lead guitarist, and while I think Thain would have been more recognized if he did not die so terribly young, collectively they created such incredible music that rivalled Deep Purple and Sabbath. From their inception from Very Eavy up to Sweet Freedom I do not think there was any band who could touch these boys. Six albums of incredibly perfect music. Sadly while they are still touring, only one member from the original band is alive. Again, thank you for this.
Well if you were to commit to listen to their whole library. You would have to listen to 25 studio albums, 5 or 6 live albums, and well over 10 compilation (best of) albums, anniversary editions etc. If you want to get a deep appreciation for them. I would recommend the following records. 1. Very Evy Very Umble, 2. Salisbury, 3, Look at yourself (considered by many to be their best), 4. Demons and Wizards, 5. Sweet Freedom, (my personal favourite) 6. Magicians Birthday, and finally 7. Return to a fantasy. I consider this album a hidden gem featuring John Wetton from U.K. and Asia.
Great job listening to the entire record, a true masterpiece in the rock idiom. I was fortunate to find their music as a kid back in the early 70s. They were, and will be until they light my pyre, one of my favorite bands. The musicianship, vocal layering, and especially the late Ken Hensley's songwriting just immediately clicked with me. You might actually see me walking around in my well worn Demons and Wizards t shirt. Really glad you appreciated the album. Cheers.
The Magician's Birthday and Look at Yourself are just as good (July Morning on the latter is probably their masterpiece) and there's half a dozen others just below that rank. They are still producing excellent records and touring live - saw them 3 months ago - though only Mick Box remains from the 'classic' line-up. Judging by your reaction to Demons and Wizards, you've got several hours of enjoyable work ahead of you, Jim.
Hi Jim , a lot of heep fan's lovel demon's and magician's..great albums both. My favourite is look at yourself..its there heaviest and first heep album i brought when i saw them in 71 .heep fans all i think all have different albums they like a lot to choose from great band grate fan's, stay safe buddy..
Yeah this is one of my favorite all-time albums. I really like sweet Freedom also. Very nice reaction I knew you'd love it. How couldn't you love this album huh?
Great to see you react to and love the music I grew up with and love since my teenage years. Salisbury next 😜 or maybe their latest album Chaos & Colour.
Fantastic, as I said in part 1. I have to say that I never listened so clearly the bass in these songs before (maybe a poor quality in my old cd) and it's fantastic!
It’s a great sounding record, played through a decent record player, very good stylus and an external pre amp before sending uncompressed to the computer. It’s a wav file not mp3 and it sounds GREAT!
Love that wobble on the demon..... I've got the albums released either side of this, The Magicians Birthday and Look At Yourself and Salisbury and the new one on my wishlist 💸💸💸💸🧙♂️😈
Cool, and there's more where that came from in their catalog, particularly with this particular early lineup. To be honest the the latest 18 albums in their catalog I'm not as familiar with either.
Try and do the preceding lp Look at Yourself next…or maybe the follow up Magician’s Birthday, which is a bit chortlesome in places but has more of the BASS! (particularly Sweet Lorraine…though i should warn you that Ken Hensley was making Dr Who noises on a synth by then 🙄) 👍
Тут все рекомендуют тебе все лучшие их альбомы, но несправедливо опускают вниз альбом "Wonderworld" (1974), который многие из них просто не поняли. Прошу тебя: послушай этот альбом тоже, когда у тебя будет время и желание. / Here everyone recommends you all their best albums, but unfairly omits the album "Wonderworld" (1974), which many of them simply did not understand. I ask you: listen to this album too, when you have time and desire.
Hm. The vocal vibratos not to my taste, yet the rest of the LP ~ OK. Thanks for playing this, Jim - I've seen the cover many times but the only UH I've heard was Very Easy, Very Umble back in the late '70's.
Side 2 is much better than side 1 IMO. Some interesting arranging and choice of instrumental textures, from Gilmour-esque slide to pub piano. I'm still not that impressed with David Byron as a singer, and in the glory days of progressive rock none of these guys was likely to stick out as players. But it seems like there was room for a mildly progressive, good-time boogie rock band like this.
My junior high school days saw me listening to this great album. The followup was very similar. Their album Wonderworld was really good. I'm listening to the brand new album. Pretty darn good.
One of the best bands ever and still going amazing live..
'Paradise' plays in my mind occasionally even after all these years, decades!🤩
I'm 62. My favorite band (1970-1977 years). Best music (sound, tunes), vocals and bass guitar. Thank You !
Fantastic album. The Magician's Birthday is superb too!
Looking forward to that one! How is Larry?
What a gem of a record.
I've been listening to them since the 70s, it's always been a group, undervalued🖤🖤
Paradise and the spell my one of many favourite songs from uriah heep
Hello Jim, this is best Uriah Heep album, Live is also great and Look At Yourself.. Do you hear last album ? is very good. Classic band and fantastic music. Best from Poland.
Not yet…. This is the only UH I’ve heard. I’ll be listening to more.
Demons and Wizards, Live 1973 and Look at Yourself? Totally agree! Greetings from Germany.
My two favorite Uriah Heep albums: Demons And Wizards and The Magician’s Birthday - both released in 1972 and both sport neato Roger Dean Sleeves!!!
Couldn't agree more Scot. Both of my albums are still in mint condition. 😈🧙♂️🧛🎂😎
I’m excited to hear more Uriah Heep for sure!
@@JimNewstead Great band!😎

I don’t care for fashion (can you tell? 🤣) but I do care for amazing sounding music. This ticks that box ✅

Nice 1 Jim , for playing heep .👍🎸🎹🥁great band great album, thanks.
The Magicians Birthday, Sweet Freedom and Return to Fantasy are also works you should hear
Noted!
Salisbury 🙂
It's genius Jim. Magician's Birthday next please 🙏
What a gem
Byron has one of the best voices in rock!
had...
...and I agree
.,...well, bro, had cos he's dead ~ b u t has compared to actual singers of other groups 😊!!! BERNIE GERMANY 😊
Watching your reaction to The Spell I can see you enjoyed it as much as I did first time I heard it.
The Spell : one of best Guitar Solo all Time 😭😭 so beautiful .. Mick Box? No , this was Ken Hensley
I think I just witnessed a new Uriah Heep fan being born!!
Un gran álbum para siempre.
Love that wobble on the demon.....

Lots to love with UH.
The 1973 live album is well worth a listen if you like this 🙂
Good introduction to the band
great, great, great!!!!

Haha, that’s almost too funny… their LATEST 18 albums. Proficient then?
Sad fact: bass player Gary Thain is a member of the 27 Club.

If you like this try UFO's Live album Strangers in the Night. One of the best live albums ever recorded, and Michael Schenker at his peak.
Something smirkable on the album cover? Looks, Looks... Jim puts the album closer... Oh! th-cam.com/video/OoAlf0-U7EA/w-d-xo.html
I think I should have delved alot more into Uriah Heep.
Wait till you see the hidden object on the cover of Brain Salad Surgery. 😀
The mind boggles!
Hey Jim! Knew you would like this one. You will love Magician's Birthday!😈🧙♂️🧛🎂😎
Can’t wait! (But I will!!!)

I could never get into Uriah Heep because of the screeching vocals, one of those voices that I just can't listen to, unfortunately
Fair enough

Unjustily called; The poor mans DP
