    Growing up in the 80s, I thought the Police were just a pop band and did not care for their music that was on the radio (mostly from Synchronicity). I just discovered this album 2 weeks ago and I can't stop listening to it. They were definitely ahead of their time and their sound is heard in so many bands. The Police are one of the great pioneers of rock 'n' roll. This live performance is phenomenal.

      +JustToBe Blunt Have to disagree with this one, if you watch the version from 2008 they've taken it down several keys due to Sting not being able to sing as high as the original

    • @markothwriter
      @markothwriter 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Casey Tappy I think he got a little better after this, with some voice lessons. He had a great voice in the late 80s, early 90s. Then it started to fade.
      I always thought most of his very early stuff was a bit off key -- except this night. Other life peformances, he's too sharp.

    • @justtobeblunt8282
      @justtobeblunt8282 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      his middle high notes definitely got better over the year's.....when he first made "every little thing she doe is magic" it was bit much for him sometimes.....but now he sings is like its nothing......his technique has gotten better for endurance. his voice is darker and more rounded now. sure, its fair to say he might have lost some agility on the crazy high notes with his new technique. but he'll still throw in some crazy notes.....he often throw's in High C#'s on live renditions of message in a bottle. stings new technique has given him much more secure big notes which is why I think he changed it up a little.

    I didn't really get The Police for a long time. I thought they were just a band my parents liked, and when I was a teenager, Sting seemed like a total nutjob to me.
    But this song is one of my all time favourite songs, I think it transcends so many genres, and I'd say it was singularly responsible for opening me up to new genres. I still get chills when I hear it, and I'd never seen this live version before. I got a whole new kinda chill again. I absolutely love it.

    My favourite Police song. I’ve trawled TH-cam - this is is. The rawest version by the Police. I love Bruno Mars, he’s one of the greatest male artists on the planet - he makes these vocals seem effortless. But this is the guys who wrote the song smashing it for their crowd at a Polytechnic.

    That when you throw your love away
    You act as if you just don't care
    You look as if you're going somewhere
    But I just can't convince myself
    I couldn't live with no one else
    And I can only play that part
    And sit and nurse my broken heart
    So lonely
    So lonely
    So lonely
    No, no one's knocked upon my door
    For a thousand years or more
    All made up and nowhere to go
    Welcome to this one man show

    Such a good band. Who wants to see the Police record a new album ? One of the very few bands that ended things at the height of their fame when there last album was great and they were still on top. I think it is time for the Police to record a new album. it's been a long enough break from them hating on each other. who wants to see them record a new album ?

      I would also say with 100 percent confidence that Andy Summers is one of the most if not the most underrated and under appreciated guitarists in the history of music, especially in his mastery of creative genre bending, sting is no slouch, especially at this point in their career, his bass lines are pretty simple but especially in this live version his vox are incredible.

    I’m pretty certain this is from the BBC’s ‘Rock goes to College’ show. Which was just brilliant. I am also pretty certain that there have been a few folk who have “borrowed“ a few of the old, big old, VT tapes and have transferred them.
    Not suggesting you are that person, but if you are, thank you.
    And the BBC at the moment doesn’t seem too bothered to do a copyright strike. Which is lucky for us boomers who can look back at some incredible moments in music history.

    Love this raw Police sound!!!! Brilliant 👍👌
    I have a cd somewhere of the police same year and tour but Sting had laryngitis and sounded a little rough!😂

    This band has been mainstreamed so much, it's easy to get jaded and forget just how great they were. If you could take a teenager today back in time to this show, they'd pull their droopy pants up right quick --- after they peed them, of course.

    You can see how much Andy knows what he's upto in the break. Top 5 guitarist on My list along with SRV, Knopfler, Page and Frusciante

    Songs about lonliness, frustration and heart ache. All to a nice upbeat rhythm.

    Summers and Copeland really are the most underrated stars of their respective instruments. When people think best guitarists ever, its Hendrix, Slash, Santana, Vai, Van Halen, May etc… Summers should be up there with the lot of them.
