What an amazing car. I remember these all over the place, you don’t see them around much anymore and certainly not in that shape. What a great profile that civic has.

What a great car! I had one of these back in the 80s. Mine was a 1977 Civic hatchback in dark green with a tan velour interior and the 2-speed automatic. It was a great little car. Easy to drive, nimble, and great gas mileage.

My first new car was a 1978 Civic. Brings back some wonderful memories!

Former 1971 Civic owner here. The wheel / tire -- can't remember if it was 11-inch or 12-inch, I seriously doubt that it was a 13-incher.

My sister and her best friend each got 1 matching lol - Bright Yellow and black & white checked interior. They’d drive both together down to the mall and beach. Hondas were still unknown in LA!!

I had the exact same car when I lived in Panama Canal. It was a hand me down service member car that had been passed down several times. I never knew it had 5 speeds until I accidentally shifted it to 5th gear. Lol

Had a 60s chain driven Civic that replaced a Rambler Rogue that my grandfather used as the "pasture" car to drive across the range and look for the horses or mend fences in the Black Hills. They fit in a lot of places that the monster cars of the 70s could not go.

    • @gymshoe8862

When I was a kid, just 10 years old when the 79s came out I wanted one of these in forest green along with a Cadillac Coupe de Ville in black, a Monte Carlo in light blue, a Z28 in yellow with orange and red stripes, a Corvette in silver and a custom Chevy van in black with chrome mag wheels, side pipes, ground effects treatment, a mural on both sides of the van and a waterbed in the back with blue shag rug just like my neighbor had, all vehicles from the same year. I still want the van, lol

    Cute li'l Hondamatic!
Literally can't remember the last time I saw one of these ANYWHERE, let alone being driven on the roads, here in the UK. They were quite popular back in the day too, though they were a bit rust-prone compared to later Hondas.

I had a new 1975 Civic and these were the funniest cars going and during the winter snows was one of the only cars on the road with it's front wheel drive, most everything thing then was still rear wheel drive.

I loved these when they first came out (along with the Accord) - they were so simple and honest and no nonsense. Not fast or particularly refined (save for the engines which were mechanical marvels compared to other cars of the era) but charming and fun to drive. I'm particularly fond of the station wagon Accords and Civics. You NEVER see one this unmolested and original. Like many famous brands, once you owned one and lived with it on a day to day basis you will always love them, shortcomings and all!

Damn Lou my wife bought one and one day on a freshly paved road I managed to tear the car in half and went thru the front seat the back seat and halfway out the hatchback! Got pretty banged up!
The guy that owned the gas station kept it out front for a few months
And he said nobody believed I lived thru it! (Almost didn't),

I had a 76 Honda station wagon with the big 1798 cc engine which was my first car. I bought it in 1982 and even though it only had 65000 miles on it that car was shot. They didn't last long in Canada.

Much like the 1974 Civic that was my first car in 1974 except mine was white with black interior and 4 speed. The hood is different on the 1974 as well - no “air scoop” for the interior fresh air.

As a young man I was hired by a guy who had a service station in Canada, he got a Honda franchise in 1975 for buying $1000 in parts--that's all! It fit in a cardboard box about 3 feet square. We began selling Civics in a day when no one even knew Honda sold cars--only motorcycles. We'd get 4 or 5 per week and sold em for around $2599--sometimes they'd all be sold before delivery to the station. I was paid $100 per sale.
