What a joy to realize that we can ASK God for things we lack! He is the PERFECTER of our faith. Our faith and emotions may not be perfect but through prayer and hope, God will grow us into mature Christians
This is a relief. I'm a new Christian and I say "I love you father" out of the blue a lot. Then I saw a video saying we should only say "God loves me." and not to say "I love God". Thank you for this ❤
It's beautiful for our feelings and affections to have a seat at the table. Long as there not at the head of the table. Cause that's where Jesus sits. Amen 🙏 If we are working on obedience depending how we feel. We would be less obedient.. it takes faith to step out and trust and obey even when we don't feel like it. Amen 🙏
Oh and it way better I've learned in my experience to put more of my focus on how much Christ loves me instead of How much I love Him.. not saying not to focus on Loving Him cause that's the one of the two greatest commandments But because of our fallen self centered flesh to focus on His love for His strength 💪 Amen 🙏 (1john 4:9-10) 9By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. 10In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1john 4:19) 19We love, because He first loved us. Hallelujah 🙌
@@kylestaack38 I'd go a step further and say it takes faith to ignite our hearts to be willing to go that step. So then, as the Apostle Paul said, faith works by love.
This is something I’ve been wrestling with for like 3 years or so now. I’m always so sensitive in church when we talk about the practices of being a Christian and it seems to be a conversation of ‘how do I make my deeds stack up’ as opposed to a question ‘how do I love God better’ I never knew if I was right or wrong or if it was even appropriate to practice Christianity without a felt love for God. Thank you for answering this
Pastor Vlad really helped me with this topic. He said at a conference, focus on the love of God towards you … then your love for Him will grow✝️🤍🕊️❤️🔥 We can never “ out - love” God. His love is so supreme and never ending
Amen and amen. Something I've had to come to understand better. I'm not called to love God as much as he loves me. I'm called to love him with all my heart, mind, and soul.
As with so many things, it's the POWER that people dont seem to understand. That God makes affection spring up where there was none, and blessing come where there was only cursing. Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
This poscast has helped me stay faithful in my darkest hour, and surely God was there, is there and will be there for me: how can I not love him if only what I have to do is to accept his love? And his love enables me to obey difficult commandments not because I’m so amazing and dilligent, but the Holy Spirit whom I have received through Jesus is so so so amazing😆
I need immense help with this. I feel that these past few years have deaden my heart and feelings of love, both with expression and words. Please pray with to God for healing and revival.
Now I have affections, but I lack Joy. I cry to Him for help, restless in all my ways. I can certainly say with ease, I will run to Christ and hug Him and weep. I read His words, and when it is so beautiful, I regret with bitter tears. How was I so blind? I always fail to see His love, maybe this the truth I suppress in unrighteousness. I remember my old days, I used to sing songs of joy to the Lord when I was a kid even though I was bad, now, I sing in my heart all day long. I feel like I am in a state of madness. I can't please the Lord, it hurts me deep because I know nothing is good in me. I can't live without Jesus yet why is He so far from me? Why can't I shout? Oh He has done many wonderful things without me knowing, I know. Why can't I praise Him? This joy, so great, what am I missing? This lack of delight, deadly. I went astray, but I went believing Jesus hates me. Now my heart yearns for Him. Is all confusing to me all this. I'm no spiritual man, I live in sin, im not sinning now yet, who knows of his hidden faults? I don't want Jesus to drift away every time I try to get close.
My friend I think a lot of us feel this way at times but we understand Paul had something similar. "24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin." Romans 7:24-25 He too struggled with sin and serving God. But he always had hope in Christ that in the end sin will no longer be in hima and that he would be with Jesus. My friend I hope you are holding on and that you make it in through this. I too am struggling, but we need to bear with each other. So friends are always welcome. God bless you and keep you. And remember Jesus loves you.
Obedience should come before affections. Cause if I work on Obedience depending on how i feel then I would be disobedient way more. It's beautiful for our feelings to have a seat at the table long as there not at the head of the table. Cause that's where Jesus sits .. Amen 🙏
This life is like a dull dream state. Eternity is the real state of consciousness. We may he dull and obedient to God, and feel very little emotion during the oppressive pain of this life. But I am sure our deep feelings that made us believe and obey will manifest as great emotional love in eternity.
i have been afflicted with horrible suffering for a long time now and it’s completely killed my affections for God. I can’t say I truly love him anymore. This scares me because I know I need to.
I have also had a lot of suffering as I keep a good conscience with God, having been obedient to Him. But a good conscience with God remaining obedient to Him, enduring suffering and continuing to be faithful to God, and keeping the commandments of God - this is still love for God. Obedience is in the heart, along with belief and understanding. Obedience can exist without work. Jesus said, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." Some people suffer for serving God. The weightier matters of God's law are faithfulness, mercy and justice. Our obedience to God, having accepted Jesus, and passing forward love and forgiveness, is having a heart close to Jesus - see I John 4 and John 14-17. Now having affections for God is great, but joy can exist alongside . Having a good conscience with God is great. John Piper I think incorrectly says just after 9:39 here that loving Jesus cannot mean obedience to Jesus' commands in this verse. We have to remain faithful to Jesus above all, I think. For the sake of making testimony of Jesus to those who are in darkness, for example. To bear the reproach that Jesus did for the sake of Jesus and His gospel. To remain obedient to the Truth as things are taken away from you, like what happened to Job.

I’m on antipsychotic medication and it takes all my emotions away and leave me numb. It feels like I’m doing things out of duty for God instead of affection. I refuse to believe that affection is merely a feeling
I know the numbness. I keep preaching the truth to myself about what God has done and is doing and will do for me. He will hold me fast. Feelings do come and go but God's promises never change.

I'm worried. My heart is far from God. But it has been as long as I can remember. I'm sure I haven't hardened my heart over the years. I think I was either born or turned into a covert narcissist in my early childhood. I have no desire to please God. I have no joy, peace or all the other parts of the fruit. I have a demonic belief, which James speaks of in his letter. I know the gospel is true, but it doesn't make me happy, because I don't even feel bad about sins. Probably because my pride is too big. I would like to ask people to pray for me, but what if I'm a sinner that people shouldn't pray for like it says in 1 John 5:15? Please help
Moaning and groaning does not help you. Feeling sorry for yourself does not benifit, you are a sinner just like the rest of us. How can you say you are worried but don't care for God. This is spiritual laziness. Yes, your pride is too big, go on your knees and submit to God that you are prideful and need Him to humble you, just as I have. If you feel like you are far from God, there is an easy solution, get closer to God. Go to a faithful pastor and have a talk. You do not have an excuse for being lazy or "narcissistic", go to God, He is waiting for you in His lovingkindness and patience.
Hey Friend, I am praying for you. It's ironic that I saw your message which really means it was intended for me and you to connect. You see, I just wrapped up my Bible Study for the evening and it was on this very thing - Christians Falling Away, I mean I'm literally in Hebrews 5 right now. Additionally, I believe someone I love is a narcissist and you posting that has given me hope that they too could come to believe. I think you could benefit from a deep dive through the Entire Bible If you've never done it already. If you have, I recommend spending a few months in Hebrews. I mean, really taking your time. I'm currently in the one year plan on the bible app with Bible Project. I like the one year, I think it keeps me disciplined, but once you've done it a few times it can start to feel like its time to slow things down so you can feast for a week or two on a single verse! That's how much food Our Father has left us. It is a LIVING word because its alive and active. It is literally His body as He says in John 1:1. So He came as His Son and like man and left us also Himself in a book. Like, how cool. 1. Pray before reading. Be honest with God. Talk to Him. Tell Him your heart is hard and you need Him to soften it because only He can. You can also fast from things you know you shouldn't be doing like: listening to secular music or indulging in tv shows that seem innocent but really harm your spirit. Maybe a social media break would allow you to quiet things down enough to hear from Him. 2. Use Bible Project Videos on TH-cam or on their website to give you the overview of the chapter in the Bible that you are reading. 3. Read just a few verses per day and then think about how they apply to your life. I mean, really sit with them. Joshua 1:8 says we should meditate on the word day and night. "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." 4. After finishing the chapter, highlighting and taking notes, go back to the Bible Project video and play it again for the chapter you just completed to be sure you really understood it. 5. Additional support for a chapter would be watching movies about that chapter on YT or Prime. For example, you may be in Corinthians and decide to watch a movie about Paul. Another thing is toggling on the Bible App between translations. For example I read in NIV, but I may toggle to ESV, EASY, MSG, KJV, NKJV when I really am hungry for more understanding of a single verse. Lastly, remember prayer is how we speak to God. His Word, The Bible is how He responds. So when we say we don't want to speak to or hear from Him we know we are in a dangerous place. I'm happy you knew at least that! Push past those lies the enemy is selling you. You are not too far to be saved and redeemed and nursed back to health in the word. John Piper is an incredibly safe place to land given the amount of false teaching out there so gorge on his videos, and be sure to check out his site. Incredible books for free on there! I pray you continue to run this race without getting weary. Get back up and let the Holy Spirit intercede for you! Grace and Peace to you!
It sounds like you need to be born again. The more a sinner hardens himself or delays obedience when the Lord calls, the harder he becomes. They sear the conscience. This is why older people seldom become Christian after a life of rejecting God. Maybe they weren't very evil, the lived successful lives, so they refused to obey. They die in their sins, being seared on their death bed. In the dullness of old age, they don't care to fear God at death to even call on Jesus. You need to ask God to rebirth you and show you His fear and wrath. You need to be quickened by the Holy Spirit, new birth. Pray and beg God to save you and show you and change you. Ask Jesus to show you Hell. Whatever it takes. When God makes you alive, it may be your last chance. Do not let it go to waste. Use it to learn devotion to the Word of God, King James Version, to memorize it and make it who you are. Become a Walking Bible, a prophet of Jesus in the World. Time is running out.
I often wondered and asked myself the same thing. Ive only been in the faith for a year and a half. Ik ive got awhile to go. But ive been wanting to grow in affection for Him. I love our fathers works and what hes done for me and continues to do. Ig im either overthinking it or something. I can't figure it out
His last sentence “God commands that we have affections for God” is confusing in his view because in his view God grants the affections, so if he demands it he should just grant it to all
@@exaucemayunga22 That's what I meant. I stopped praying. Because I prayed for 41 years of my life, i don't drink alcohol, never cheated on my girlfriends, never stole, never lied, never hurt anyone, all I did was follow God's word. And I don't got shit to show for. No family, no friends, no nothing. So you may be right. God has my life and controls it. That is the only explanation I can think of. But I still won't drink alcohol, will never cheat on my girlfriends, will never steal, will never lie, will never hurt anyone and will keep following the word of God. And I still believe and love God.
@lalomontoyajr.9282 now your next step is to prove to yourself that God exists, and that he has control over your life. Good luck in your next journey. I'll be difficult, but ask yourself: do I care about what is true or what makes me feel good? Good luck.
@@exaucemayunga22 I know God exists because I exists. I am he and he is me. All I do is good, and that's Godly. But I can't prove that he controls my life. But I would think that he does. Because like I said, I am a good person and yet I have absolutely nothing in this life. I see many evil people with beautiful families and wealth and health. Hell I was born dying. I was born with a congenital heart disease. But I'm still here. God has to be controlling my life. That's the only explanation I have. And I do live in reality. I work and pay my bills and date women. But nothing happens, im just alive. Almost like if God just wants me to himself.
@lalomontoyajr.9282 Anyone from any religion can say the same thing. That's a very stupid reason to believe in a God. "I know Zeus exists because I exists" Do you see how ridiculous this is?
I was like that when I did not realize my sin. I thought if I care for people and don’t hurt or hate anyone I am good. Needed to look into sin towards God, most of us serve a false god called self. We are made for more than that. We are made in the image of God to live in a way that exposes his glory. But we can do that when we truly believe and repent.
I always thought when God said their they honor me wit their lips and heart is far removed it meant people were just talk and no action. People can say "I love God" and not be obedient to his word. Then do they really Love God if they refuse to obey him? I'm leaning toward confusion of language or confusion of hearing on the listeners part. However this was a good topic! Glad it was discussed.

"I command you to love me and have affection towards me" Anyone who ever says that is a sociopath. It's a good thing this "God" actually doesn't exist, because if he did he'd be a very bad example of a "loving father". Imagine telling that to tour children, or your parent telling you that.
How does one make themselves have affections though? Actions are something we can choose. But things like belief, or feelings, those aren't things you can simply decide to have. The human brain doesn't work like a computer where you can change a few lines of code and turn on the belief or affection function when it was previously set to off. How does one make themselves feel differently?
We ask Him, because Biblically the Lord leaves us a promise in his Word that He works both the wanting and the doing. (Phil 2:13). Well, there are additional context to this verse, I believe firmly, and have experienced in my life that this is truth.
And to add a second reply to this - he not only works it in us towards him, but if we trust him and are willing to work on restoring human relationships, here on earth, he also does it in human relationships, like marriages or family dynamics. I am actually One of those people. God restored my marriage after years of instances involved in forgiving and building trust after adultery, verbal/emotional abuse and drug addiction that was in our marriage. Through choosing to get help, and choosing to trust that God WOULD rebuild, by faith and pressing in, we have seen the complete renewal of the relationship. I believe firmly in this because in my personal walk with God, I believe that I’m almost like an ADHD person. I love him. I desire him and rejoice with him. I am moved by him, and when I hear him, I am obedient to everything that he gives to me to the best of my ability. But my distractibility factor or something that I constantly have to bring back to him. I Repent from when I purposefully choose other things MORE or don’t choose to draw close, but continuing to ask. And I believe that as I have done this I have seen, drawing has become more of a desire, but something that has slowly replaced some of those distracting affections. A small example would be replacing TV time with quiet time with him. Or purposefully knowing you’re going to read a book, but choosing to have five minutes before hand and just thanking God and thanking him for creating and just chatting with him, before going to do something else.
Fast, immerse yourself in the Word, Pray without ceasing, listen to sermons on the fear, love and reverence we should have for God, attend church weekly (even if you don’t feel like it, it’s when you need to the most) and slowly but surely God will start peeling the layers (I’m speaking from experience) ✝️🤍❤️🔥🕊️
Jesus glorifies his Father, the one true God (John 17:4, 7-8, 22, 25): Jesus said to the Father, “[4] I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which *thou gavest me to do.”* [7] Now they have known that all things whatsoever *you have given me come from YOU.* [8] For I have given unto them the words which *YOU gavest me;* and they have received them, and have known surely that *I came out from you,* and they have believed that you did send me.” [22] And the glory which you gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as WE are one: [25] O righteous Father, the world has not known you: but I have known you, and these have known that you have sent me. [3] And this is life eternal, that they might know YOU-the Father-the only true God, AND Jesus Christ, whom you have sent (John 17:3).
Trump is a good example of how Christians will view the antichrist. They will overlook his prideful arrogance and worship him. Stop defending yourself and defend God. Mathew 21:13
God used Trump in a powerful way to achieve that for which you prayed for years: the reversal of Roe V Wade. To God goes all the glory. Who would think a sinner would pull that off? God did. Please, next time, Piper, think before you write.

What a joy to realize that we can ASK God for things we lack! He is the PERFECTER of our faith. Our faith and emotions may not be perfect but through prayer and hope, God will grow us into mature Christians
I'm being helped here, what a blessing❤️
This is a relief. I'm a new Christian and I say "I love you father" out of the blue a lot. Then I saw a video saying we should only say "God loves me." and not to say "I love God". Thank you for this ❤
My friend, please immerse yourself in the Bible and it will show you that God yearns to be loved and acknowledged and glorified 🤍🕊️ ❤️🔥✝️🙏🏼🫶🏻
I learned that saying I love you to God is an invitation. It invites the Holy Spirit to hold the reins of my mind and settles my heart.
It's beautiful for our feelings and affections to have a seat at the table. Long as there not at the head of the table. Cause that's where Jesus sits. Amen 🙏
If we are working on obedience depending how we feel. We would be less obedient.. it takes faith to step out and trust and obey even when we don't feel like it. Amen 🙏
Oh and it way better I've learned in my experience to put more of my focus on how much Christ loves me instead of How much I love Him.. not saying not to focus on Loving Him cause that's the one of the two greatest commandments
But because of our fallen self centered flesh to focus on His love for His strength 💪
Amen 🙏
(1john 4:9-10)
9By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. 10In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
(1john 4:19)
19We love, because He first loved us.
Hallelujah 🙌
@@kylestaack38 I'd go a step further and say it takes faith to ignite our hearts to be willing to go that step. So then, as the Apostle Paul said, faith works by love.
How could we not love the God who loved us while we were sinners? Overwhelmed!!
Excellent response!!
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin."
Romans 7:24-25
He too struggled with sin and serving God.
I think genuine love for God manifests when we remain obedient even when our affections wane. You stay true and pray for the affections to return
Obedience should come before affections. Cause if I work on Obedience depending on how i feel then I would be disobedient way more.
It's beautiful for our feelings to have a seat at the table long as there not at the head of the table. Cause that's where Jesus sits .. Amen 🙏
Amen. love this message.
We are silent witnesses. Be aware of Truth, Love and Light in Christ's Name Amen. ❤️
We are not silent witnesses, we are Worshippers who worship God unashamedly in spirit and truth.
Can’t wait for the book
Good teaching

@@FollowerofChrist12 Thank you. Well, I'm worried about going to hell.
@@sherlockhomeless7138Then I'll hope you start doing something about it. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.
For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."
I can't figure it out
His last sentence “God commands that we have affections for God” is confusing in his view because in his view God grants the affections, so if he demands it he should just grant it to all
David was "a man after God's own heart" and didn't care much about obedience.
99% of the Biblical characters did not
I say I love you to God every day. Because I know he loves me. But I stopped praying. I'm sorry I have to go to work in the morning.
Why do you need to pray to an omnipotent being who has a plan for you?
"I know Zeus exists because I exists"
Do you see how ridiculous this is?
What if I want to delight and rejoice in God but I don't feel it despite praying about it for years?

Whelp im screwed 😕
why are you saying this?
"I command you to love me and have affection towards me"
Anyone who ever says that is a sociopath.
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye. shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you
Mathew 7:7
Fast, immerse yourself in the Word, Pray without ceasing, listen to sermons on the fear, love and reverence we should have for God, attend church weekly (even if you don’t feel like it, it’s when you need to the most) and slowly but surely God will start peeling the layers (I’m speaking from experience) ✝️🤍❤️🔥🕊️
Ask Him. He listens to us if we pray according to his will ❤.
Jesus glorifies his Father, the one true God (John 17:4, 7-8, 22, 25):
Jesus said to the Father, “[4] I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which *thou gavest me to do.”*
[7] Now they have known that all things whatsoever *you have given me come from YOU.*
[8] For I have given unto them the words which *YOU gavest me;* and they have received them, and have known surely that *I came out from you,* and they have believed that you did send me.”
[22] And the glory which you gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as WE are one:
[25] O righteous Father, the world has not known you: but I have known you, and these have known that you have sent me.
[3] And this is life eternal, that they might know YOU-the Father-the only true God, AND Jesus Christ, whom you have sent (John 17:3).
Piper, why did you call us liars for supporting Trump? I voted for him because he was EFFECTIVELY prolife.
Trump is a good example of how Christians will view the antichrist. They will overlook his prideful arrogance and worship him. Stop defending yourself and defend God. Mathew 21:13
Paul, you have lied on here in order to defend Trump. That proves John Piper to be right.
God used Trump in a powerful way to achieve that for which you prayed for years: the reversal of Roe V Wade. To God goes all the glory. Who would think a sinner would pull that off?
God did. Please, next time, Piper, think before you write.
Stop defending yourself and defend God. Mathew 21:13
If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also
Like 6:29
And Trump said "he doesn't feel he needs to ask God for forgiveness".
A tree is known by it fruit
The number of abortions increased after the reversal. That's hardly a powerful way for god to give glory to Trump.
Matthew 14:13-21(Jesus 😊1st❤feeds the five thousand)

Do you have also a grateful heart like Jesus😊1st❤. He looked up to heaven and not look down at the 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish from the boy.
