Let it slide: Sandboarding

It's an unlikely spot for one of the world's most unusual sports … because in a national park, far from a beach or desert, people are encouraged to slide down sand dunes as if they were on a snow-packed mountain. The ranger had the timeline wrong. Lake Alamosa drained approximately 440 thousand years ago, not 440 million. Once the lake drained, sand accumulation began at the base of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range.
