- We start in 1585, with Terumune Date, Masamune's father, handing over control of the clan to him. I have limited space here, so I chose to cut short this section of the summary since you'd see this in detail if you played SW4's Date story anyways. It leads to the famous standoff where Terumune gets taken hostage by Yoshitsugu Nihonmatsu yells for Masamune to fire his riflemen and kill them both, which he does.
Later, Hideyoshi makes an announcement that there are to be no more private battles between warlords and to voice any complaints through him. Masamune has no choice but to go along with it, not being anywhere close to Hideyoshi's military strength. Magoichi visits him shortly after, saying that order basically put him out of a job as a merc, but that he and the Date could be allowed to go to battle if it's to "keep the peace", so they work together to settle some in-fighting in the Osaki clan. When they enter the battle, they see other Tohoku region warlords are participating, which Masamune wants to use as a chance to take all of their territory. Kanetsugu shows up during the fight, siding with Masamune because they have the fewer numbers.
When the fight's over, Magoichi is about to take his leave, but Masamune says they're going to Kanto next. Magoichi warns him that'll anger Hideyoshi, but Masamune doesn't care. Magoichi laughs and says he should consider allying with the Hojo then, since they're resisting him still.
37:13 - After this scene, Masamune meets with Ujiyasu. Except all he really does is say that he plans to take over the land. Ujiyasu doesn't really care, he just says to not dare go after his people. Masamune agrees and says he'll take over everything except the Hojo. Once he leaves, Kai wonders if he really has it in him to do that, but Ujiyasu says he does.
Later, Hideyoshi visits Masamune personally after his repeated refusal to show up to his summons. He asks for Masamune to help take down the Hojo. He has no choice but to agree and sends Tsunamoto Oniniwa to help. (The generic that shows up a lot throughout the video as Masamune's go-to guy.)
But Masamune himself goes to fight on the Hojo's side. Kai freaks out saying he'll get in a lot of trouble for this, but he says he's done exactly as requested of him, so it's fine. She reconsiders her opinion of him, saying he's actually a good guy. Masamune responds "Flattery will get you nowhere, bear-woman" to which Kai rages over. Then he mutters that he actually likes her feisty side. Oniniwa can be encountered in this stage and will wonder what the hell his LORD is doing on the enemy's side lol.
After the battle, Kai is shocked, thinking they actually managed to avoid certain doom and change their fate. Masamune says this is what it's like to make your own destiny. However, Hideyoshi sends an even larger force to take the castle. Masamune says for her to escape while he holds the rear guard, but she refuses, telling him to leave while she surrenders the castle, saying her place will always be in these lands, but he's destined for greater things. He begrudgingly retreats and Kai is spared her life for surrendering the castle, but moved to Osaka.
Later, Oniniwa wonders if Masamune is upset because Hideyoshi now rules everything or that Kai was taken away. Masamune wonders how one can seize power from Hideyoshi without throwing the land into chaos again, and pays a visit to Ieyasu. He tells him he's going to attack the capital and asks him to not make a move. In return, Masamune promises to give him control of the land. Ieyasu is befuddled, but believes him, as Masamune says he can change the land whether he's the one ruling it or not.
However as he moves to march on Osaka, the Uesugi attack. After the battle, Kanetsugu wonders why he's going to such lengths and Oniniwa says he can only assume it's because of love. That gets Kanetsugu 100% on board obviously and forms an alliance on the spot. Masamune calls them imbeciles and says he wouldn't got to war JUST for that.
1:26:10 - The Date army reaches Osaka and begin to seize the castle, but the Toyotomi start a bombardment on them. He orders his troops to fall back, but tries to climb that castle himself. During the battle, Kanetsugu and Magoichi show up as reinforcements and tease him about doing this out of love. He calls them imbeciles and says he's here to take the land from Hideyoshi.
Afterwards, Masamune prepares to head back to Tohoku. Kai runs up to him, thanking him for saving her. He says he was just doing what he wanted, but she says he's not being honest with himself. She says she wants to return to Kanto, and Masamune says that they're heading the same direction then and lifts her up onto his horse. She yells at him for doing that so suddenly, but he tells her to hold on so she doesn't fall off. He mutters that everyone would realize she's a fine woman if she just behaved like one.

Ah yeah, the Masamune x Kai story. It’s cute but very odd.
Fun fact, as a reference to this storyline, in Empires 4, Kai gains a unique praise/thank you for rescue line for Masamune (unfortunately he doesn’t reciprocate)
It’s also kinda strange because I swear like in SW3 storylines, they both don’t really like each other that much. I recall Kai being particularly insulting in Masamune’s Kasai-Osaki Uprising stage. Masamune also shows up as an enemy in Ujiyasu’s final stage as well and I think she has a snark line when he shows up.
