I met this boy when I was in the 2nd grade, he was so sweet and so different from anyone I had met. I had just lost my mom and gained what I thought would be a lifetime friend. We dated for several years throughout the course of elementary, junior high, high school and well after. I never shared a connection with someone the way i did with him. We connected on so many levels, we allowed ourselves to be vulnerable with each other. We shared music. We danced together, laughed, brought people together who would never be together. I love the lyrics of this song. Thank you Kamauu and Adeline for making this song. I’ve seen people interpret this song’s meaning from breaking up all the way to mutual agreement for an entanglement. Lol. For me, the message is about letting go in a healthy way. Especially after a romantic relationship, it doesn’t have to end like Gotye “Somebody that I use to know.” If I love somebody, I’m always going to love them. I don’t have to be with them to love them. Most songs promote unhealthy attachment and glorify toxic relationships. I wasn’t aware of the messages I was listening to until after my divorce. I need to say this man. I discovered this song the day I found out I will be a father, (at that time did not know I will have a son). When I heard this song, as maybe all future parents, the word "baby" changes its meaning and same happened with love songs in general. In particular with this song I felt like this can be easily a discussion between a father and his daughter, when she finds her life partner, and the father realizes that his efforts are not enough to make her happy, she needs "another dude to improve her". I bursted into tears while driving to work when I heard this song.
