Precision Sails, I really hope you have added a waist height measurement to the slider section of your main order form. An area to include any markings on the slugs would be great too, as that can help customers tell you what slides they need. I have not been able to use my new main from you for almost 2 months because it came with slides that did not fit, and I still have not received replacements! I chose Precision in part because of your reputation for great customer service, which I found to be true, until I had a problem, and since then, it's been horrible at best.

    • @PrecisionSailLoftVictoria

Tim Webb I apologize for our team dropping the ball on this problem. Proper procedure wasn’t followed which resulted in the delay in rectifying the issue. Your new sliders have been expressed shipped. As mentioned in both the voicemail and email please call to discuss how we can make this error up to you.

    • @timwebb8153

Nevermind, I fixed it myself. Just change that order form to reflect slug waist height, as well as a space to enter any info stamped on the existing slugs, and we're good.

A little advice here : do not wait till actually retiring to start searching if you plan buying a boat. If you have the space in your backyard, buy one soon and plan working on it. I waited till my retirement at 65 to do longtime dreamed projects including refitting a sail boat. I don't have the stamina now at 67 I used to have even though I'm in good shape and exercise. The difference between being 50 and 65 is terrible.

If you keep thinking about "too light, too heavy, too big, too small" you can wind up eight or ten sails very quickly! And, a thin wallet.

    • @wilfdarr
      @wilfdarr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes but they said their 135 was too heavy, Which is valid. I prefer a 135 and a 90, separate, hank on, but if they're the wrong weight they're going to be next to useless: a 90 that's too light will just get shredded, a 135 or spinnaker that's too heavy won't hold its shape in light winds. 2 properly weighed white sails up front plus one symmetric spinnaker (useful at a broader range of angles and wind speed than an asym, and quite single handable on a boat their size), and a set of storm sails would be my choice. As for the furler, I've had a bad experience with a roller furler, was scared for life, I religiously hank from the bag and besides the walk up to the bow (which I think is prudent anyways) it really doesn't take any longer to set or retrieve sails(if they were stowed properly); only the sail change will be noticeably slower with the hanks. My 2¢.

When measuring, it's better not to have an additive error such as measuring one meter over and over. I've used Spectra fishing line to stretch out over the distance (really easy to play out and wind up on an old fishing reel), then go round and round 2 screws put in the dock to measure out 10 feet at a time, then just measure and add on the final bit. This is actually even better than the long measuring tape because they actually stretch appreciably. I couldn't tell what the hell the true length was with one of those.

High latitude sailors (especially those in aluminum hulls) have been using wood-burning stoves for ages to keep their boats dry. Few people understand how much moisture is actually present in human respiration... The stove is a terrific addition!
However, It seems odd to me, that after carefully explaining that your headsail (genoa) was stretched, misshapen, and ill-fitting for your purposes, that you would use it as a template for measurements in specifying a new sail from Precision?? Wouldn't the foretriangle dimensions (taking account of the roller furling gear) be more appropriate? I hope it works out...

    • @SailingUma

It's great. You can control how much texture you put on, so on deck, it's a bit rougher than on the cockpit seats. It's soft under barefoot and had AMAZING grip with boat shoes on. So much better the molded gel coat.

I have to say you guys (Kika) have been become great video creators. Of all the sailing vids that I follow, yours contain a nice mix of what I think most of us want to see...Sailing, DIY, and general fun. I've always been impressed with your ability to just figure things out and perform maintenance and upgrades like pros, but your videos are now professional quality. Keep going! You're an inspiration. If you make it to Baltimore, MD or Newport, RI (depending on the time of year) please message me, i'd love to meet you guys and buy you a beer. Cheers!

How do you get your registration numbers put on the main sail? I'm guessing the sail manufacturer doesn't do that since you don't have them on the new ones. I'll be looking for that answer while I chug along the season.

I'm sure you can ask the sail maker to do that if you order new sails. But why?

Nothing like the sound of crinkly new sails.

I'm all for fractioned "small" sail surface. Less muscles needed to handle them and resilience in the long term.

If your going north you should each get a head bug net anyways. I'm telling you dab some tea trea oil around the ears, etc and bugs nor more. The sails are nice looking. : )peace

I can't seem to find anyone asking this question, so I just have to. Is this a custom sailboat. Is this the first sailboat of this exact design to need new sails? If the answer to those questions is "no"...then why measure? Do you need to measure a car to find the appropriate tires for that exact model? I just don't understand why the "exact" measurements are not already available out here on the world wide google or in Precisions database.

Each model year of every boat is slightly different. Some newer boats have their rig measurements available, but ours is 50yrs old. Had had mast, boom and rig work, so even if there were measurements from the factory, they would be different that our set up. It’s not like a pair of tires, it’s more like a suit. Sure you can get one off the rack, but they fit sooooo much better when they’re tailor made.

what hspoend to the old sail and other parts you take off the boat ( like the first electric motor? ) Are there boat salvage stores at the marina , where you can leave unnecessary parts snd you could take something else you need ?

Did you give away your old sails, for example to fisher folk in Haiti?

We've given older sails to other cruisers who needed them. But also keep our old sails as back ups, since we know they fit our boat and work well.
