On the other hand, I find it quite awkward to watch. Maybe because somehow makes it look like he's using the iPad uncomfortably himself? I wouldn't mind if he covers the screen when reaching the upper toolbox because that's what would happen in real life if I were using the iPad myself anyways; the focus is now in the tool he's selecting, not in the image. My opinion, though.
So refreshing having a tutorial that I can skip to where I need, fast forward, and listen patiently. So many people go way too fast so I’m constantly pausing and tryna figure out what’s going on!
I’ve watched this video over and over again because I compare how you teach this technique with others and yours is the best. I don’t know if the other tutorials are editing incorrectly and skipping steps but you manage to 1) keep it simple 2) take your time to explain the why without over explaining and 3) your editing is clean. As a beginner I can’t tell you how much I appreciate a video who can do what you do here. You may not have a million followers but know that you were able to teach one person who has no background in graphic design whatsoever to be able to do this.
Love this tutorial, you didn’t speed up the process and went through it very slowly. I don’t understand why people do tutorials and speed through the whole process, you can’t see what they are doing. I can actually go right along with you and create some beautiful art that I can be proud of so, thank you for taking the time to show the process nice and slow for us noobs...hehe
If I took anything from this that I will guarantee use, it's the fact that I can select everything on a layer by clicking the thumbnail and hitting select! Absolute game changer and would have saved me so much frustration trying to select certain parts with the selection tool!
I thought that your instagram tutorials were amazing, turns out your youtube tutorials are just as good, if not better. By far the most helpful and generous procreate artist on the planet!
This video is great! Felt really accessible, I was constantly thinking ‘I can do that’ whilst watching. You are a wonderful teacher and I’m very keen for more Procreate tutorials! 🙌
@ianbarnard Quick tip: if you turn on alpha lock for a layer, you can then select fill layer and only the stuff alpha locked is filled. Faster than going over all of it with a brush.
Thanks again for doing this! I actually planned to search for this trick online as I had seen it before and wanted to try it out so Im glad I came across yours, as always very thorough and easy to follow along!
Im amazed how polite and nice person you are! Thank you for such a perfectly made and easily understandable tutorial. I love your work and your brushes (I have bought some brush packs off Design Cuts ) as well. Thank you again! and of course, I subscribed, how could I not your voice is very calming - which is a huge plus when trying to follow the instructions and the whole process.
Really great tutorial, I was trying to pick up the technique just watching people's timelapses in procreate, but it's so much easier to follow your tutorial. I will be attempting this technique soon, #1 seems the easiest to me
This is a great tutorial, thank you so much! However, I am looking at it in March 2021 and when I select the middle layer and a colour, it does it automatically and does not look right. The edges are not crisp and if I use the brush to go over it like you show in the first example, it is just solid over all the lettering; any suggestions? Thank you!
Awesome tutorial! Thanks a lot. Minor question: Does anyone know where the menue at 01:34 has gone? And if I outline a letter first and fill it, the outlines remain sharp in the motion blurr 🤷
Hi I love your work! I was wondering if there is a difference in selecting the layer and then coloring it manually with a brush, and alpha locking and then using the fill option?
Loved watching this tutorial Ian but when I go to try it myself, when it comes to clicking the thumbnail on the middle layer, the background doesn’t go stripey like yours and the shadow looks different. Any idea why? Still learning so no idea what I’m doing wrong.
Thanks for this, however, for some reason when I select the motion blurred layer, my brush is retaining the transparency of the blur and I can’t colour it in to make a solid shadow... any ideas on why??
I love how you put your hand around to the side to point to the top settings as to not cross over the screen, you are so polite !!! !
tahats realy truee

Yeah you know that just by hearing his accent.
Good people exist 🥇
This is one of the BEST tutorials I’ve seen in a while! The correct speed and sound volume and clear instructions! Thank you!
Yes!!!! With no krazy music in the background!!!
Agreed! The perfect teacher
So refreshing having a tutorial that I can skip to where I need, fast forward, and listen patiently. So many people go way too fast so I’m constantly pausing and tryna figure out what’s going on!
Right!? He is so precise and thoughtful!
Very generous of you to give this tutorial.. thank you so much

This is a fantastic tutorial Ian! Thank you for sharing. I learned not only 3D but more about how Procreate works.
If I took anything from this that I will guarantee use, it's the fact that I can select everything on a layer by clicking the thumbnail and hitting select! Absolute game changer and would have saved me so much frustration trying to select certain parts with the selection tool!
You deserve one million subscribers. Great work!

I'm new at drawing and procreate these types of videos are super helpful thank you so much
I think Procreate 5 changed the way the selection tool works and it adds in the feathering when selecting the blur layer. ):

Hi Ian! Great artwork and video. Would you mind to share how you created the text? Drawing by hand, importing image etc.? Thanks!
Drawn by hand using the chalk brush in the calligraphy folder.
@@IanBarnard Got it! Thank you for reply!

Thanks. Very helpful. Any recommendations on the lettering? Is that a font or just freeform? What font or brush did you use?
I was looking for this answer too!!
I was doing this all manual, than you so much!!!!!

Awesome tutorial! Thanks a lot. Minor question: Does anyone know where the menue at 01:34 has gone? And if I outline a letter first and fill it, the outlines remain sharp in the motion blurr 🤷
Same.
Thank you sooo much. I have a lot to lean from you. Immediately subscribed haha
Hi I love your work! I was wondering if there is a difference in selecting the layer and then coloring it manually with a brush, and alpha locking and then using the fill option?
I’m wondering the same thing. My method was in between the two; I alpha-locked and then colored with a brush.
Nice one thank you!
I’ve just discovered your video Ian and it’s very much appreciated! Thank you for your generosity in sharing your expertise! ;)
Brilliant thank you, nice tutorial 😎👍
This is exactly what I needed!! Thank you so much!
Loved watching this tutorial Ian but when I go to try it myself, when it comes to clicking the thumbnail on the middle layer, the background doesn’t go stripey like yours and the shadow looks different. Any idea why? Still learning so no idea what I’m doing wrong.
Great videos - thank you so much for sharing! As a newbie to procreate, I don’t understand the function of using ‘multiply’. Please could you explain?
Nice video thanks 🙏
Can you change the font to like a burbank ?
Loved it❤
Excellent
Brilliant stuff, more tutorials!!!
THANK YOU!!!
Hi Ian thank you 🙏 with brush do use for this word ?
Thanks for this, however, for some reason when I select the motion blurred layer, my brush is retaining the transparency of the blur and I can’t colour it in to make a solid shadow... any ideas on why??
Me too! I cant figure it out :/
I have the same problem when I updated to Procreate 5 :(0
Me too, really frustrating
Yes me too. Couldn't figure out how to maximise the size as there is no General tab. Can anyone help?
Having the same problem ! :( so I wasn’t alone ? I’ve tried at 5 times
