I met someone at a car show who drag raced bugs with the original engines and they had a massive nos bottle, a turbo that couldn't even fit under the hood so they cut a hole through it and they had a 4 barrel carb stuck to a custom intake manifold. the whole thing was rusty and ratted out. dope
Subaru made a 3.0L flat 6 for the Legacy/Outback in the early 2000's and Porsche has a 3.0L flat 6 in their 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera S.

weight distribution is key in a drag car. Less weight in the front is what you want. It helps your launch tremendously.

that 3.0 flat 6 is an air cooled porsche motor. it's a pretty legendary motor.

Why did he stiffen the rear springs of a drag tune? If you loosen the rear springs shouldn't it allow for more rear grip and a faster 0-60?

@ 6:20 no. soften the rear stiffen the front. that will make the weight transfer to the powered wheels

I remember when I suggested TC9700 to do a V8 drift build of the Beetle in FM5

the revs are slower when the car is stopped to allow you to do a launch at your preffered rpm easier. Like if it was that faster you couldnt really control the rpm at which you would like to launch. hope i could explain it well.
Mighty Car Mods built a pretty good sleeper they call miss daisy. They did one hell of an engine swap though.
that engine is 3.0 Litre flat 6,that comes from high end subaru outbakcs and legacys from the years 2000-2003, and the second revision is from 2004-2006? (not sure exact years) its called an EZ 30 and no turbo kits are made for it in person, im suprised it isnt a 3.3 litre flat 6 that they use in the SVX as that is a very popular swap for old VW's as is any subaru engine.

I think the main reason it's not 7 seconds is because it's not AWD.
Weight reduction may have actually hurt it too.. also that roof rack apparently helped as well.

I did a drift build on this with the 2.5 and it was pretty fun/insane.
Here's a tip from a racer: Your final drive ratio was too tall (2.70)? shorten that first, then fine tune your trans.

That 6 sounds nothing like the Subaru flat 6, which is a bit of a disappointment, but nice Beetle nonetheless!

im not sure why yours struggled so much with bogging down as far as i remember i mainly raised my car then softened the rear suspension although mine had a different issue it,sometimes on launch would just shoot left and you had to catch it well enough to get a good time
His final drive is 2.70. Real drag cars like a 3.73 ish or higher.

why not go with the ls1 it should make more power than the flat 6 when fully built right and it weighs less too

0-60 doesnt always mean an slow ¼ mile, some cars take a lot to 60(by some standards) but havr crazy low 400m times
it runs 7 if it's AWD. I got it to run 7.8 with the dung beetle decal. SLEEEEEEPPERRRRRRRR

But I did keep bouncing up and down.It was sooo fun!
Your in neutral when your rolling so it can rev fats but can't use the power produced, while when your braking it stops all the power release.

When it is revved up too long it loses boost that's why it's bogging
that and turbo vw bugs do that anyways for the most part. Turbo drags bugs aren't very consistent anyways.
It's your final drive its all the way to speed so if you mess with that you should launch faster

You need Waight for downforce and downforce gives you speed if you take away Waight it will get lighter and slower
not completely. What vw drag racers do is get rid of unnecessary weight, then they have these lead plates that they place in certain parts of the car that need it. Also with vw bugs or most vw they're rear engine anyways so the weight is already where it needs to be. Put a quality roll cage and it brings it all together bye adding more needed weight but not to much. The cars are light already which helps them specifically. The way a vw is set up, it will beat you off the light for the most part (given a decent set up).
