I really liked "The Lost Memory", the artstyle was so cool and the level design was neat too. "The Dark World" was insanely impressive. Absolutely blew my mind.
I really hope the creators of Dark World make their own platforming turn-based battle game. Even 2D platforming with the UT-like battle system would be awesome.
much as i love simpleflips i cant help but feel like the comp hacks would be better served by somebody who's not gonna double the length of every hack by trying to blj everything and ignore all the indicators both implicit and explicit of what to do and take fully 5 minutes to go from "being told mario left the oven on" to "oh guess i should go back to the house". like when its just a dude fuckin around on stream thats all fine and good but when it's nominally supposed to be fair judging for a competition it kinda hurts for the demonstrator to basically always create the least-intended experience possible and ignore sizable chunks of what's going on. having a thousand people all rating hacks mainly on how good a time they had watching simple play it isn't really a great yardstick for finding "the best one". putting the romhacking community's efforts in front of a way bigger audience than they'd normally reach is really cool, and good, but i can't help but feel like with this format the "competition" aspect/ratings via chat should just be dropped
that said, lotta really cool hacks in this stream that i wouldn't have seen otherwise (and probably wouldn't have gotten made without the impetus of the competition prompt) so i am still glad to see it
So what you're saying is, the stresmer shouldn't have fun and entertain? The competition aspect has never been as important as the community aspect. The competition format just provides a neat way to showcase all the hard work people put into their hacks. It's more intriguing this way, and having the community vote is a great way to engage them. Say what you will, but I think it's a fantastic way to incentivize people to watch the streams. The competition is an aspect, not the whole purpose.
These comps are literally nothing more then getting people interested in making hacks, most people just enjoy entering. I honestly would find it an HONOR if simple wasted a lot of time in my hack just to do something stupid.
Caught a Simpleclip video today. He BLJ'd on a ground poundable sign while screaming about a penny that doubles in size everyday while trying to climb out of the trashcan in the corner of his room. He tipped the garbage can over, scuffed his Bup and fell asleep for 6 hours. Great entertainer he is.
Your issue here is that you are treating a fun lighthearted competition from a niche community like it's some World Championship series, the dude is having fun and that's what matters for a lot of things. The competition environment would suffer much more if Simple was a sterile, serious and rule abiding judge than it would right now.
