    Wonderful video Steve!
In 1978 my agent booked me to perform at the La Quinta Hotel and it was truly remarkable. Such refined elegance and exclusivity unmatched anywhere. In those days (1926-1979...) the hotel was what is called a "closed book" hotel, meaning that accommodations were not available to anyone that called or wrote in to book a stay there. The hotel was booked solid all season long to the same celebrities and industrialists year after year after year...
This hotel was only open from October 1 through April 1 period. No exceptions. It was an old school winter-only hideout for the ultra rich.
What is interesting is that this property was so far from any civilization at the time that all the staff, myself included, literally lived at the hotel! And I mean everybody! The maids, housekeepers, cooks, bartenders, waiters, gardeners, poolboy, and yes even the concert pianist in the library lounge. I had my own separate and individual cottage there right next to the general managers cottage AND I still have photos of it today!
When I performed at La Quinta Hotel I had dinner each evening with the hotel's 70 year old pool man. He was in fact the only pool man the hotel had ever had. He worked there from the very beginning in 1926 and finally retired in the 1980s. He lived there with his faithful and beloved German Shepherd dog and when the summertime came each year he along with all the employees would pack up and move. They all went to work at exclusive summer resorts across the country. I would sit there night after night and listen to the stories that the original head of housekeeping and he would tell. It was just magic.
During my time there in my audience was Jackie Onassis, President and Mrs. Ford, the Shah of Iran, Elizabeth Taylor, Doris Day (and her cheating husband who secretly brought along his mistress and put her up in a nearby bungalow some 50 feet away!), William Holden, etc....
Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner were there filming the pilot for his series Hart to Hart along with Roddy McDowell, Aaron Spelling and more.
So you can imagine what my audience was like each evening!! They were a captive audience for sure as there was just nothing around it but sand and dirt and tumbleweeds for miles and miles.
Oh one more thing... I played the wedding of David Carradine there too.
Thank you for this delightful video Steve. You did the place proud!!!

I loved this one, Steve! You're so funny and it's great to see Jim again too! The $12 fries left me speechless there for a moment, even though I live in a very touristy area and prices are high here. But the food looked unbelievable and the portions terrific! I didn't know about the San & Santa meanings either and I love old Hollywood so it was all very informative as well.

Jim seems like he is getting out more and more! You must be finally converting him! Sure is a lot of history at this hotel! It's neat that they have everything marked. Must have had a lot of visitors over the years looking. Hard to believe someone doesn't know It's a Wonderful Life. It's even in Christmas Vacation. Wonder if he saw that?

Steve, I understand your "OMG!" about It's a Wonderful Life. I have a friend who turned 68 last November and he had never seen the movie. I'm 56 and have seen it numerous times. Something recently I learned about the movie is that the actor who plays the guy at the dance talking to Mary when George walks up and interrupts him, and later opens the floor for the pool is played by Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer.

Great that La Quinta embraces the celebrity past. I know when wifey and I stayed at the Chateau Marmont over a long weekend we tried to poke around and inquire where Jim Morrison stayed and others and they had nothing for us haha.....the only place we knew for sure was Belushi's bungalo.

Steve, what a great vlog post! That looks like an awesome place to visit. And Louise's Pantry..... looking at all that food made me hungry! I've really loved your recent posts. I'm watching for another great cemetery crawl. Jim, you need to stay in the videos! I think you have a better sense of direction than Steve lol! Looking forward to more.

Very interesting movie, our generation watch it every holiday season, the movie premiered when my folks were young and they never saw it, never remember anyone in their group who saw it. Very interesting. Cheers 🥂

Hello Steve and Jim , what a great video I just enjoy them so much because I’m so into those things , Louise’s looks like a great place to eat next time I go to palm spring I’m gonna look for it , I can’t believe Ginger Rogers didn’t have a plaque near the “fountain” they should’ve have kept the fountain ,Cus fountains are beautiful i so don’t like when they change things from the past , I can’t Believe that there was not much on her . Thank you both for sharing!! And Marsha too 😇

Hi there you guys, isn't things nice how things work out. Its a wonderful life filmed so long ago and then was just another movie. The proof is in the pudding so long ago and became an iconic movie that now gets passed down generation to generation. This movie has stood the test of time great video as usual

Great job. I lived in La Quinta in 1983-84 and had no idea this place existed. La quinta was a lot smaller then. I believe the Eisenhower's lived here prior to moving to Indian Wells where they purchased a home after he was out of the White House. The prices seemed high but it is a tourist area and I have a friend coming out here in Dec and he is into ghost hunting. May have to take him there and have breakfast too.

Yes, I think you are right Lee. And isn’t it funny how many of these great places are hidden in plain sight here in the desert? 😎👍
