Thank you very much, I've been trying to find that sauce on the piano for a long time, but actually it is Neve, give him dimension. And especially how you treated the effect on the vocals, enchanting. I can't wait to watch all your video.
Thank you for this video Austin, I have been able to use some of these techniques on my recent recording and it's made a HUGE difference - it almost sounds professional :) Thanks again!
Thanks for this! I was always changing up my mixing game and trying new things to get a nice smooth feel in my mixes. As they say, NO MIX WILL EVER BE THE SAME AS THE LAST. This video really opened me up to subltey in my reverb/delay sends. Less is more.
Hm, the phase buttton on the neve-plug shouldn't do anything at all if switches both channels of the stereo track. Shure you're not just phantom-hearing that "change"? I couldn't tell if the plug-in was in some kind of stereo-split-mode or something like that. Guess it's called "dual-mono" in Logic for example. If the phase button would flip just one side of the stereo track, that's when it starts making some changes though! Just a thought...
Hey man! Just watched the video back and you can't really tell in the video but in my actual session it sounds muchhh different. It definitely gives the piano width.
AMAZING GO THROUGH AUSTIN.. LONG LIVE BRO..REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR WORKFLOW !! WOULD BE GREAT TO SEE THE SAME STYLE OF WORKFLOW TUTORIAL OF "How to Mix Acoustic Pop (Adele , Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran)" IN Logic Pro X AS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHETHER IT IS POSSIBLE TO ACHIVE SUCH A POWERFUL BODY MIX N MASTER IN Logic Pro X USING ITS NATIVE PLUGINS.. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF U WILL BE DOING IT.. I REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO YOU BRO !!
From the UAD manual on the 1073 plugin, "The PHASE button inverts the polarity of the signal. When the switch is engaged (the darker “in” position), the phase is inverted. Leave the switch in the disengaged (the lighter “out” position) for normal phase". This does nothing with stereo width. I'm not sure what you're hearing. Like Tobias said, if you're using this plugin in dual mono and flipping one of the channels phase, then you would here a big difference.
cjwhite341 Yeah, I knew that, but on a stereo track it only makes a diffrence if it just switches one side of the stereo track. My guess is that it’s no diffrence in this video cause it flips both sides of the stereo track at the same time. Of course there’s times when it still could make a dittrence. For exemple if you want to flip both over heads on a drum kit to see how it effects and plays with like the snare mic. But again, I doubt there really is a audible diffrence in this case. It’s a fact that we sometimes ”hear” what we think is a change even if it’s not. I’ve seen that happen to some really(!!!) well known and big time mix engineers 🙄😊
I don't understand more than half of the things you're talking about. How or where do you learn mixing? I just got interested with this because I wanted to make a song cover.
Thanks for another awesome tutorial! I believe you can able and disable all sends and inserts in mix console globally, instead of single tracks as you did at the start 👍😊👏😉
Hey austin, thanks for a brilliant run down of how to go about the acoustic track mixing... Loved it. I have a question if you could answer... Is there any specific value that you look at while keeping the level of the main vocals, backing vocals etc? I do have an ozone elements running at the end but i wanted to know this in the mixing process...
It got confusing for me when you opened up slate var, are those all different compressors and eqs that you have selected. Ive never used that before was wondering is it worth spending the money on?
Great video, but I do have a question. You turn the phase-inversion button on and say that it gives the sound an ‘effect’, like it was recorded on two different mics, etc. But I was under the impression that the phase button only inverted the polarity of the waveform which, in theory, shouldn’t really be audible unless you have another similar signal that is actively contributing to phase cancellation. Is it different on this EQ? Thank you!
Honestly this mix is so old I don’t remember why I did it. Maybe at the time it actually helped. Maybe it was all in my head (like when you keep adjusting a compressor that’s bypassed) 😂
what are you talking about? Reverb is triggered by sound, its always on tempo with what ever you apply it to. what changes is how much reverb you want with dry/wet setting with the tail echo/delay..
Actually just found a way better answer. You put a compressor after your reverb and sidechain it to the original vocal signal. Ducks out of the way perfectly and sounds professional. Secret unlocked.
That phase button 'Tip' makes no difference especially on one stereo source track. If you had two separate mics on two different tracks, it would definitely make it night and day.
Thanks so much for doing on my song, I've been trying to get better mixes forever and this was so incredibly helpful. You're the best!!
Great song Carol! 🙌🏼🙂
love ur voice i would like collaborate
He thought it was a Neuman mic but it was really a RODE 2k Right?
Love your lyrics. ): ): ):
Amazing song Carol
Fantastic Video. Helped me a lot. And Carol Kay Rocks. What a beautiful voice and composition.

Your Reverb sound amazing! great tutorial by the way Austin
Austin can you please do an update on mixing acoustic music? Much love man!
Great stuff here!
Best mixing tutorial I've seen so far on TH-cam
another killer tutorial, thanks for your time Austin!
Your tutorials are the best man
Beautiful song! Good mixing tips! Thx!
Learnt to look into more detail in terms of EQing and processing vox! Thanks g!

The speed at which you graced mixing that piano with just the right things gives me faith in virtual piano libraries. Great stuff!

Very professional and helpful video ! Tank you !
Amazing tutorial man. Quality production tips
Very very specific and in point!
I don't understand more than half of the things you're talking about. How or where do you learn mixing? I just got interested with this because I wanted to make a song cover.
Lol then you need to start by learning about the mixing process ins and outs in general, ESPECIALLY EQ and compression.
@@onedirectionlover317 Thanks!
outstanding quality
Great video and amazing job
Excellent💯
Really nice. Thank you for sharing.
You're a beast man, keep it up.
great stuff austin
Curious to know what mic and preamp she used to get her vocals recorded? Great video by the way. Learning something new everyday.
Hey Austin. I like to position the backing vocals with the visual mixer from izotope. It gives something exta to the backings!
im a logic user and im confused about the echo channels? are they like aux/bus sends?
Thank you.so.much. Actual tutorial
you are my hero
Thanks for another awesome tutorial! I believe you can able and disable all sends and inserts in mix console globally, instead of single tracks as you did at the start 👍😊👏😉
Really good mixing
Full support
Which saw do you use ?
Great job! Thanks!

Sehr schön👍
thank you so much!
Austin, you're the best. ❤️👍😁
Can you PLEASE do a "How To Produce An Adele Style Track". Great video BTW!!
awsome!
Perfect!!! Thanks
It got confusing for me when you opened up slate var, are those all different compressors and eqs that you have selected. Ive never used that before was wondering is it worth spending the money on?
Also do I need to get the Eqs and compressors separate or do they come with slate vmr?
Cool man, why do you let the reverb send in pre-Fader?
What music program are you using in this video?
Cubase!
Great content Bro!!!
holy shit this so so good that it hurts to watch. gonna have to develop a lot more as a producer
damn sounds so clean
Which plugins were used?

Wow man so much good info I am taking right back to the studio thanks!
Wow quality.
thank u :)
What is the final db ratio you like to have between the Piano and the Lead Vocal? Like Lead Vocal 0db, Piano -2db or something?
Idk just worked it until it sounded right 😁
@@MakePopMusic Thanks!
What software is your DAW?
How do u get the reverb to be on tempo with the vocal I can't hear any over lapping plz explain
what are you talking about? Reverb is triggered by sound, its always on tempo with what ever you apply it to. what changes is how much reverb you want with dry/wet setting with the tail echo/delay..
Right am talking about the tail, like putting it on vocal and not make it muddy with the tail of overlaps with the next word r phase
@@blingmotions6996 just reduce the length till you stop hearing it overlap lol
Actually just found a way better answer. You put a compressor after your reverb and sidechain it to the original vocal signal. Ducks out of the way perfectly and sounds professional. Secret unlocked.
@@dullcharlie472 nice
its great but a bit too fast for me. Like didn’t get the chance to listen a bit longer of what each effect affects the track

Absolutely! Send a message to austin@austinhull.com and let's chat!

Nice one but if you'd call it tutorial, use custom or vst that everyone owns, and slow it down not running.
Dude your wrists are huge. Also, nice video.
Rain Wallace thank you! And thanks, I’ve been working on em.
Great tutorial! But! It is to fast and nervous for me. Wild mouse clicking! Please slower! Thanks.
It`s not "TOO TOO BAD "because he didn`t do "TOO TOO MUCH" ... not even TOO TOO ANALOG ... maybe a little too too wet ?
This comment is too too good
no offense but the piano sounds like a piano toy. With reverb tho
You need to show your face instead
really useful tips. Thanks!
