I wish there were some recordings of Long John at Les Cousins Club in Soho. He was a completely different act, accompanying himself on guitar. His natural voice has a good timbre and a great vocal range.
Agreed! Would be great to have some of his early Roundhouse Pub gigs from 1957 too. He did record a small set of songs in 1958, one track is sampled on his last album. They’ve never seen the light of day in their entirety sadly.

I saw him live at St. Andrews University back in the mid 1970's, he was fantastic! Been a fan ever since.

Long John is very much a ladies man. Still touring.
He died in 2005.

Long John Baldry was gay. Well discussed in the Elton John autobiography.
Saw him in 1971 - great performance.
