One of my absolute favorite grapes. Hard to find many examples so thanks for this cast. I’m particularly fond of the Calistoga examples. Great Chinatown reference as well. Love your videos.

What about Livermore? Concannon was the first winery to produce varietal specific Petite Sirah.

Great video, thanks! Is that a Chinatown reference in the video description? Too bad memes based around the combination of obscure wine history & 70's Hollywood cinema aren't more popular...

Drinking at the moment a petite syrah from L.A. Cetto in Baja, Mexico. Pretty darn good ! very tannic, definitely cocao powder on dark fruit, nice nose.. I would recommend the stuff.

Petite Sirah is such a fantastic grape!! Probably my favorite wines from California. Mexico is cultivating a few serious amount of it too! Exotic Wine Travel have been covering some on their channel.

I'm excited to hear about Mexican PS. A lot of what works in Israel tends to work in Mexico, too, so I shouldn't be surprised. I'll check out the Exotic Wine Travel channel. Thanks!

How am I supposed to not confuse it with Syrah? They seem to have similar nose, (blue and black fruits, chocolate, licorice, pepper) and body. More tannin in Petite Sirah?

Fair question since there is some overlap in the flavor profiles. My experience has been that the fruit character of PS tends to have a richer, denser and, well, blue-er, fruit character than Syrah; so, where Syrah will show more blackberry, PS will tend to show more blueberry and the fruit will have a more Zinfandel-like feel to it (one of the reasons that those two play so well together) than Syrah fruit does. I also think chocolate is a much bigger deal and more foregrounded in PS than it is in Syrah -- again, typically, but there are lots of different expressions of both grapes, especially Syrah. What's your experience been? Cheers!

I'd love to do a video on Israel. Been thinking about it for a while; so, who knows, you may see it sooner rather than later. Thanks for the suggestion. Cheers!
