  • Analysts continue to speculate on the implications of an international reserve currency planned by Russia and China amid fears that the US might be facing a recession. The announcement of a reserve currency was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the BRICS Summit in June.
Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump warns of a depression if the US economy continues on the slow growth path.
Associate professor of Africans Politics at Unisa, Professor Everisto Benyera, as well as Redge Nkosi, Executive Director Head of Research on Macroeconomics, Money, and Banking at Firstsource Money, join us for the following discussion

LOL, they are scared the Chinese Yuan will become a reserve currency, but that is not how it will work in the end, being a reserve currency comes with its pros and cons.
Cons of being a reserve currency.
      1. Inflation being passed to your country, making goods more expensive in the host country like the US.
      2. Manufacturing becomes less competitive. Where is " Made in the USA" Today, America lost the top spot in global manufacturing because inflation caused wages to go up and the cost of labour increased, causing many factories to move overseas.
Here is how BRICS Would function.
China has seen all these and would not be a reserve currency, instead will create a standalone reserve currency owned by nobody and not the official currency of any country, and attach it to trade. This would help china devalue it money to that reserve currency and still be able to hold her factories and stay as the top manufacturer globally.

I dont think people realise how huge this will be for SA. International trade being conducted on our core currency. BRICS accounts for 40% of the worlds population. Saudi is applying to be a BRICS member. The infrastructure development and spending that will go on in SA will be HUGE. United States Government debt accounted for 123.4 % of the country's Nominal GDP, last time i checked SA was 61%. This is going to rock the IMF and global lenders control they have.

The bottom line, the US Dollar cannot be replaced unless they themselves removes themselves from this standard. BRICKS can implement a reserve currency however, it will fail. Implement BRICS currency and see the speculators or market forces destroy it after building it up.

Yes. They made a deal with the oil producing countries that all oil transactions would be made in dollars. Hence the petro dollar was born. If it were any other county they would be in the same as Zimbabwe right now. I don't hate America or wish them harm but they need to play fair.

What we are seeing now and many haven't cought on too it, is a currency war between nations fighting for dominance of global one world currency. Who will be standing on top when it's all said and done?... I'm certain it'll lead to a all out WW3.

Sadly, the ANC is very much in the pockets of the Anglo-American Empire and that is why they did not stand with Iraq and Libya when they were being destroyed for wanting to leave the USD debt Empire. Blinken arrives soon and Rama will do whatever he says. Africa needs to go back to pre-Empire days, meaning sovereign states not determined by the European Empires. So far, the closest it has come to this was Apartheid in South Africa and Tanzania. Such a move to self determination by the various peoples of Africa, followed by new alliances between those nations, would be the way forward. For now, we are a bunch of milked countries shared equally between the Anglo-American and Chinese empires with SA under the former and in BRICS only as a wish list item for China

We know how much china's production is dependent of US imports. There is at moment a Chinese collapse in certain areas of it's economy. If I am not mistaken, people can not withdraw their own money from the banks at will at the moment. Small nations will have to be very careful with what is happening right now! This means that a decision taken by foreign countries does not apply until the people have had a chance to vote.
