I am TOTALLY with you this one. I couldn’t understand all the praise when it first came out. For me, the minute this film lost me was when Dennis walks into the house, and it’s dark, and he’s drunk, but he doesn’t say a fucking word, doesn’t call out for his friends, all so they can set up his death. From there, the killers’ seeming teleportation, now you see me, now you don’t skills were also too ridiculous for me to bear. Beyond that, I agree about the lack of connection to the two main characters being an issue, too. And while I almost never prefer the sequel to the original, I did in this case. I just had a lot more fun with it, and jumped out of my skin a couple of times, which I rarely do. So yeah, unlike so many other horror fans, I just wasn’t impressed with The Strangers.
I'm not a fan of home invasion movies but I finally gave into the hype and watched this one and I was so disappointed I had the same problems with it as you did I thought it was boring and I didn't care about the characters at all. I also wish the killers were more violent I think that would have made it more entertaining
I'm in agreement with you on this movie. I was so excited to see it, but was very underwhelmed despite it being a technically well made movie. One thing I did like was that the lead couple's relationship was on the rocks. Usually in movies like this, it's a happy, loving couple whose perfect lives are shattered by a violent event.
Also, I think this was the movie that made me a hardened cynic toward the "based on a true story" claim. I always had suspicions about it, but I assumed that a movie had to have at least some factual basis to make that claim. I know other movies have done the same thing long before this movie, but for some reason, this movie was the last straw for me. I just think it's a cheap gimmick. It's like the narrative equivalent of a jump scare.
Hey Jason! Just found you a few weeks ago and you've got a great channel! Apologies if you've been asked this a bunch- but what are the movies that your intro clips are from? I'm really getting into those over the top 80s movies and those looked REALLY cool
In order of scenes -Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 -Pieces -Don’t go in the house -Friday the 13th Part 4 The Final Chapter -Pieces (again) -Motel Hell -Nightmare Beach AKA Welcome to Spring Break -Maniac (2012) -Sleepaway Camp 2 Unhappy Campers -Slumber Party Massacre 2 -Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (Again) -Tourist Trap -The Burning -Jason X
So glad i subbed you man!! Really enjoying your content, glad you reviewed the film, this movie really fucked with me because it could happen to anyone anywhere, thats why its so scary - also, random, whats your zodiac sign lol??
I enjoyed the movie; the psychological torture makes up for the lack of gore. I thought that when James first fires the gun at the intruder trying to get in with the axe that the trio would have moved on to someone unarmed. It also seemed odd that Kristen was wearing her “sex clothes” while tied up when just prior she was wearing jeans and a flannel shirt. Did the killers make her put the “sex clothes” on again? I liked the ending and set up for possible sequel.
One of my favourite horror movies, this movie brings out the same emotions you get when you watch Halloween or The Blair Witch . I think for people that are expecting a gruesome many deaths fast pacing horror movie , your going to be very disappointed. Look at Halloween or The Blair Witch project, slow pace very little deaths , it's more about the slow burn build up. Now I am not saying this movie is as good as Halloween but it definatly bring a out some of the same emotions. You won't get those same emotions from the sequel as it's a full on slasher of which the original is not.
Have you ever considered covering the two laid to rest movies? (Both slashers with an iconic killer) I enjoy your content, but often it seems you struggle to find films that match the theme of your various series.
Soon as she came t the door first and ask was Tamara home and they said she doesn't live here and doll face said see you later before she left was a huge red flag I would of been gone
hey jason my name is austin york can i be a new sub to your channel nice background and happy friday the 13th and 31 days of horror month of october i love the strangers and the strangers prey at night from 2018 nice review 🤑❤
I never cared for this movie personally, The movie felt like it was building tension than it just dragged on and on. Another thing I disliked is the Amount of generic jump scares and door banging is laughable. Finally, the killers look like rip-offs of slipknot and the claim of "based on a true story" is a joke. This is just my opinion
I’ve said this time and time again, but you are one of the most underrated reviewers on here! Keep it up man I love your content!! 🤟
Ah thanks man
Agreed
Bang on again my Man! It's amazing how many movies we agree on!
Retro Ray's Succulents AKA retroraysrealm 🤘🏻😈🤘🏻
Just hold out for "The Strangers 3: Rambos Revenge." 😂😂😂
The sequel is far superior in my opinion. I agree also i think this is more a home invasion movie too.
One of my favourite horror films right up there with jeepers creepers.
Jeepers Creepers is awesome! Part 2 was decent. Haven’t seen 3 because I heard it was a steaming pile of shit.

I forgot to mention the friend not speaking part. I had that written down. Yeah, that’s pretty fucking ridiculous
The sequel is also a solid watch imo.. Although not as good as the 1st i thought it wasn't terrible if you want a slasher type movie.

You have the best intro. I love it !
Thank you
I don't always agree with you, but Strangers Prey at Night is so much better. I think it's better in every single way.
