In fact the what you need to be watching for wear and tear is the lacing, specially the knot of the lacing. I does last quite some time but you need to keep it in mind. I recommend carrying something like a nail or spike if you go out for a long run.
I know this was 5 months ago, but I wanted to add that you can always replace the nylon cord with some 550 paracord. That stuff is guaranteed to last a very long time!
