  • An on board view, from an Ambulance in the UK on a blue light run, when a Metropolitan Police Territorial Support Group van comes up behind. We then end up in convoy for about 6 minutes. Enjoy!

    Notice how many drivers don't look for the 2nd vehicle, make a move only to move out the way again.

      As a Blue light instructor it's the biggest problem when multi vehicle training. The smallest vehicle should go first and the second vehicle should be on different siren tones but drivers don't use mirrors. 😑

      Why would they? How many would look for a 3rd or 4th and would you specify a time in which they much appear?

    prime example why we have a mandatory emergency vehicle corridor in case of traffic jams on motorways in Germany
    Did you guys transport a patient, or why did you let the police van overtake you?

    • @TangoSierraMedia
      @TangoSierraMedia  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Indeed.
      It was an airport transfer with a Dr, the Dr needed to return to the airport for another emergency transfer. My colleague let the police van overtake, because we didn't have a patient on board and they looked like they needed to get somewhere quicker than us.

    5:50 drivers need to remember the only time they can cross a red light that is operating correctly is if a police constable in uniform stands in the road and takes over directing traffic. Special Escort Groups do this. If they direct you over a red light and you get a ticket, it gets cancelled, but not if you thought there was an emergency vehicle trying to get past! At no other point can you cross it, even if someone is behind you with a siren blaring and lights flashing. They have to wait unfortunately. It is for them to find a way around you, not for you to break the Law and possibly injure or kill someone else. If you do cross a red light you can get a fine and points, especially from a camera. If you run someone over or hit another vehicle and/or cause injuries/damage or cause others to have a collision - you WILL be prosecuted. An emergency vehicle behind you is no defence in Law, it is only used as an excuse to try and lower any sentence you get.
    You can not be prosecuted for obeying a traffic signal such as a red light. You will not be prosecuted for obstruction either as it would cause further more serious offences in this context.
    There is also NO requirement in Law to damage your vehicle and you certainly should NOT be mounting pavements, this is a further offence you can be prosecuted for. Poor road design or lack of consultation between Councils and Emergency Services is NOT the problem of the drivers using those roads.

    • @EnjoyFirefighting
      @EnjoyFirefighting 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      very different from the legal situation over here in Germany: here you're supposed to clear the path - no word on how exactly you have to do that. It's expected to do whatever is needed and makes most sense in the specific situation. At traffic lights this can mean that you're not only allowed, but actually supposed to drive across the stopping line and through the red light, slowly proceeding into the intersection without endangering others

    • @darren25061965
      @darren25061965 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Emergency services WILL NOT push you over a stop line, they silence their sirens and wait until it is safe for you to clear. They will also happily sit behind you, particularly in rural areas, until YOU can move over safely, where it is "safe for them" to pass you.

    • @EnjoyFirefighting

    Lane splitting works wonderfully. Here in Australia they would just sit there trying to force everyone into lane 1, which obviously does not work.

    First impression? Ambulance driver worried about double solid lines in the tunnel approach (they cut the siren). There's no oncoming traffic, as it's a dual carriageway, so no risk. Police driver more effective. This isn't a criticism, just an observation.
