I'm so glad you have St. Augustine.... Living in Texas, the lawn care tips you used to give before you moved were only partially beneficial. regardless I watch EVERY video. Thanks for all you do!
Is it sad I wait for your vids more than I look forward to my regular tv shows? Just what I was waiting for. Thanks again Allyn!!!
regular TV... what's that? :)
You mentioned you got the pre-emergent down in time but didn't say when that deadline was. Thanks a lot, great video.
5:30 is when he actually reveals the product Incase you guys are wondering like I was.
Allyn you're tip several videos back on not going full throttle when using a trimmer has been a life changer!!
nice!!
I needed help with my south Florida grass now I Loving Watching your videos.I believe I can make my lawn look good, now with your help! Keep doing what you're doing .
I'm loving these videos. its fun seeing the warm season grasses!
thanks brother
Please consider inserting a "Throw er down!" Clip from this video in all of your future fertilizer, weed killer, pre-me and/or water tip videos. That made me spit my drink out, not kidding. Thanks for all your videos. I've been following your tips and it's paid off. (My neighbors think I'm nuts, though...)
I enjoy learning about the southern grasses.
me too ;)
Got some plugs yesterday. Going to try and plant them tomorrow.
OK, I definitely wasn't feeling the Frankenstein Bermuda until I saw that good patch you got going. It's looking better and better.
That Bermuda is looking good and I can't wait to see that ST Augustine established.
Thanks Allan!
You could have used one of the walk behind 4 head blow torches they use for gardening to kill all the seeds in the top 2" or so of soil before plugging. Urban Farmer Curtis Stone has good information on strategies for this.
over 200 views in 20 min you've got to love your success. I know for one I await your videos both on Facebook and TH-cam every week!!!!
It's best to try and spray in the morning that way it won't burn the plants as bad. Yes it's kinda hard to do with a full time job but it is easier on your plants. Just make sure there isn't a heavy dew.
i got the same echo sprayer a very good quality worth every penny
i agree it's a good unit!
probably would have better control with a cone tip, Fan tip more for blanket spraying... I watched this video wanting to know how this product stacked up to MSM.... great answer
Can you explain the dish soap add and how to calculate that volume? Great segment.
Will Blindside kill wild violet in my St.Augustine ? I'm in Memphis.
I have one acre of wonderful St.Augustine Lawn.
I see often where people say Bermuda takes over St.Augustine. Not so with me.
Over 40 years my St.Augustine has taken over my bermuda.
Just came across your videos searching for ways to liven up a St Augustine lawn in a newly constructed house. It seems the sod didn't take 100%, but the biggest issue is weeds. They are relentless and come is such a huge variety here. I miss the soft Midwestern grass. Looking forward to the results video.
yeah me too, I miss the softness of the cool season turf, but if you get your St Augustine healtlhy, it can also have advantages that you will come to like
Hey Allyn! I know St. Augustine is sensitive to many weed killer/herbicides but was wondering if you had any suggestions for fertilization... When (frequency throughout the year)? What (N-P-K ratios)? Located in So. California. Thanks.
Allyn we need help desperately in the central Florida area! Our Augustine is absolutely dying and overwhelmed by weeds. Can you PLEASE come help us!?!?
I also use Blindside, great product. But here in Florida it is kind of risky to use in hot weather. A better all year round herbicide would be Celcius. Give it a try results are just as good as Blindside.
thanks for the advice, I will look it up! And as far as heat, the advantage we have as homeowners is we can apply in evenings... you pro guys are more dictated by your route as to time of day, making it definitely a concern.
+The Lawn Care Nut That's true, we are limited in these months and use it as needed. Cooler months it's the best product use.
Allyn Hane you are the fucking man. I don't even have a lawn and I anticipate your videos every week. Keep slaying.
thanks Bro
I've never seen you use anything by big name Scotts... costco makes it easy to get around here in Cali. I know it's not organic..... Is scotts weed&feed better/worse than what you're using (for est. lawn)?
I going to start from scratch with St. Augustine.
How would I start cleaning and prepping my soil?
Blindside label says a surfactant is NOT needed and that there is a higher chance of damage to the grass if one is used. Since it attacks the roots and works its residual power in the ground, I would not use a surfactant
Great video... appreciate the info. Is this product safe for Floritam?
In your Kyllinga nutsedge battle video from two years ago you state not to use a surfactant with Blindside but in this video you recommend using it. I just purchased Blindside, the surfactant, and marker dye to treat my lawn. So may I ask which is it please? Thanks
That stuff you're trying to save is weeds, up here, and I pull it regularly. Won't regular grass grow down there?
thank you for this video I used the sprays from your previous vids on my st Aug and I had tons of yellow spots even with small amounts. guess I had to learn the hard way haha!
Will Blindside work on Oxalis? I have that clover like crap all over the dead spots in my back yard. Been battling it for years and I cannot get any grass to grow in those shady spots. Just this Oxalis stuff. Thoughts? North Texas Dallas area. Thanks!
You should do sprinkler controller reviews. There's all sorts of "smart" ones out there now... it would be interesting to see your take on them as many of us have irrigation systems.
I have two in the garage that I will review - I just don't want to mess with my system right now since I am relying on it so heavily.
Makes sense... I bought a Rachio last spring that just about sent my lawn into dormancy last summer with it's "suggested" watering time settings. You don't want that while growing plugs/new grass for sure.
I did the math with my sprinkler nozzle precipitation rates from the manufacturer and found the Rachio suggested settings were only giving the lawn .60" of water a week when it should have been getting a full inch.
I am trying to get a grip on major weeds in 3 year old sod. Even though the video was great, since you were spray plugs , I am afraid to even spot spray my established sod. ???
Hey I love your channel. Thank you for all the information you give us. I have a quick question. I’m in south Florida. I have saint Augustine grass. Is tenacity safe to use as a weed killer?
Could I use blindside on an established st aug grass ?
Awesome man! thanks for the vid..... I've been waiting for this one.
you're welcome!
I'm curious about the use of Blindside in high temperatures. The label says its safe to do but the label for MSM, which is one of the two active ingredients in Blindside, recommends not using it above 85 degrees
Allyn!! I have done a 7 day kill off and replanted grass with starter Fert on top. The Boss/Wifes honey do list took me away from it all but the watering. Now It has grown back with some grass, creep, clover, GOAT heads and crab grass third till stage. I would hate to start over so is there a aggressive path I can take to save the grass but get rid of my Salad bar?? temps are rising and I would like to get some grass established this year.
Where can I buy st. Augustine plugs ? And I’m assuming is just planting them? Do you have any videos tutorial. Thank you
I'm going to try this. I've seen some other herbicides that say St Aug safe but not for the floratam variety of st. aug. Not even sure what I have but so far nothing has really worked.
this will be fine for Floratam too
+The Lawn Care Nut, great. Thanks! I'm a first time yard owner in Tallahassee
Hey LCN watch your video for awhile now. Glad you have st Augustine now. I live in Texas. Have you heard microlife humane plus. They are very good for clay soil and it's organic product. You should look into it. Also I think weeds let them be once you establish your lawn st Augustine will crow them out. I love your video. Keep it up.
Also argulawn weed killer it's also organic and one of best weed killer I have seen.
Just moved to FL this summer. I have St Augustine and skunk vine growing in my lawn.. Any recommendations?
thxs kylek12 yeah I'm in the Metroplex I wasn't sure what kind of grass they put on the homes out here
awesome video. one question
I have a mixture of centipede and rye grass...is this a good combination for my area? I live in south carolina near the coast and understand that the rye will die do to the summer heat. thanks for the videos and thrower down
Hey LCN, What is that you are adding to blindside? I could read "Seventh Generation", is it a dish soap or laundry detergent?
So what if I want to get rid of Bermuda, which is very prominent around my area, leaving in the Saint Augustine. How do I get rid of the Bermuda to leave the Saint Augustine? 9:03
Hane. Thanks for you videos. But I have a question I have Saint Augustine with dollar weed zombies creeping. I don't have any humidity yet they are thriving. How can I get rid of dollar weed and how without damaging the grass.
Is there a topsoil you recommend? I feel like the one I buy is full of weed seeds!
I have st.augustine grass..but I have a patch of "Mexican prickly poppy" can you give advice on how to get rid of this patch with what chemical name? Thanks
Can I overseed with Bermuda ? I grew it up north in Michigan without trying... Controlled it. Bermuda seems to take right over?
Question for u, i sodded a new area after retaining wall project the St. augustine is thick in places but some areas have some crab grass and other broad leaf grasses, without killing my standing St. Augustine what can i pray or what kind of weed and feed type product should i use?
Hey Allyn great vid. Any advice for managing wild grass that has surrounded my St Augustine?
What preemergent did you use? Love your videos, I'm hooked!
Thanks for the video Just wondering I got MSM to kill Virginia button weed on my st augustine grass here in Florida. The yard is 3 years old I am nervous to spray it all over the yard but the virginia button weed has really taken over. I guess my question is.. is it safe to spray the whole yard (~4000 sq ft)? Do I need to add the dish soap? We have lots of citrus trees and a couple oak will it harm them? any advice would be great. Thanks
Can you use this if you have established grass but are also sod plugging st. Augustine in certain areas or do you recommend a different product? I have some spots I need to plug and other shaded areas that don't have an option issue with St.. Augustine grass.
I’m in California I’m have at Agustin but I’m growing goose grass or crab grass what can I use to kill it
Allen, my client has torpedo grass in their st.aug! help! is there any option other than glyco??
I saw you recommend Bioadvanced All in One weed and crabgrass killer in a video, but when I received it the bottle said don't use on St Augustine grass. Have you found that it harms your St Augustine grass?
The plugs and The runners, how do they go into the ground to ensure the roots establish in the ground? My weeds I mean my grass is the same way
Which do you recommend for Dollor weeds to apply in December ? I have the worst case of Dollor weeds you can inagine
Good video but that Blindside is out of my price range. I can’t afford it. Can you recommend something cheaper?
this is a single use pack for 2 gallons of water in a pump sprayer - works great thelawncarenut.com/collections/weed-control/products/celsius-wg
Hi Allyn. 1st off, thanks a bunch for the tips. Started last year and tried to follow all the tips. Im in California (92173) and can't get any Scott's Bonus S here. Whats a good alternative?
Can you use Methylated Seed Oil For For This Herbacide.
What do you recommend for carpet burweed control? I'm in north FL, mostly St. Augustine grass, well established, and tons of carpet burweed in the Spring. I have Atrazine, recommended by UF horticulture, but I'm afraid of using it after seeing from vloggers that Atrazine can kill the St. Aug. Thanks!
What's the best way to get rid of dollar weed in St Augustine grass right now in May
What would be the mix rate per gallon of the MSM Turf for nutsedge
My garden is healthy but, too many clover, what do you recommend, is about 4 month old, I am afraid of mess it, after I check some you tubers, is all palmetto grass,Thanks.
What herbicide can I use to kill st. Augustine grass growing in my shrubs beds without harming the shrubs.
Any advice for dollar weed in st Augustine grass? Its taking over my front lawn.....
The Blindside website says not to use a surfactant. Would you still recommend using one?
Help! I have torpedo grass in my St. Augustine. What to do??? Thx!!!!
It's always easy to find when to put down pre-emergent... but there is never a suggestion of WHICH pre-emergent to use.
Does this herbicide kill torpedo grass? I’m starting to have an issue with torpedo grass spreading in my lawn.
Absolutely great advice! perfect brother
Try Atrazine first for 1/10 of the cost.
Allyn, I have a very mature St. Augustine lawn, when I say mature I mean it's most likely been a part of the lawn for 20-25 years. Some areas have died out due to poor maintenance from the previous homeowner, but other areas are beautiful. A few weeks back I put out Atrazine, a weed control, and it essentially killed very little weeds. My question is, the Blindside weed killer you recommended in this video, is it safe for mature St. Augustine?
yes and it works very well too.
What kills spurge, clover and dollar for St Augustine?
How much dish soap did you use ?
Can you mix Sulfentrazone and MSM Turf to make the mix in Blindside?
What if i have an established lawn already (not dots) but it's a salad buffet of dollar weed; dry grass (crab i think); the weeds that go straight up and look like ... 'weed' ... and the clovers? it's all over togehter
I live in a weed nursery zone south of Orlando. Since Irma, we have been introduced to a board spectrum of new weeds to our region. Worst being the spiny rush. Neighbors yards are 60 % or so saturated. Ifas offices have been less than helpful due to lack of concern, or not sure of its impact on us. Only herbicide mentioned with web searches is Hexazinone. Any suggestion other than this zone clearing herbicide?
I'll call this The Pope's Aspergillum😋 Thanks for the good advices!
Hey man, I live further inland from you in St. Cloud. Starting to watch your vids. Love the content. Been wanting to do something about the lawn at the place my wife and I rent. We have patchy saint augustine in the front with a big oak tree that continually blankets the lawn with leaves and what appears to be Bahia grass in the back. What can I do to get this lawn looking good again without breaking the bank? Or do you have a video you can direct me to? I dont own the place but I wanna make it look like I do. Lol. Thanks! Nino
It ok with Bermuda? I have a mix with St. AugustoneI want to keep it.
nut----------------can i use a hose end sprayer to put down atrazine or do i need to use a battery operated sprayer or tank sprayer----tx
How much soap for 1 gal sprayer Pls ??
Will this work with FJ select St. Augustine? New sod, 3 weeks old. Thank you
Can I use this if I don’t have plugs. I just have lawn with weeds
Very useful, thank you!
Can grass over grow the weeds if you let the grass grow high
Sir I watch your videos I recently moved from Pittsburgh to Cape Coral Florida sir I have Saint Augustine grass and it's been a rental property that we bought to our home and it's really Full Of Weeds and some kind of flowers that are coming up white little flowers all throughout my property and my yard what is the best way for me to take care of this sir on my own
The home has originally ten years ago still Augustine installed but ten years has this lawn really not taken care off what's the best way for me to take care of this thick flowers weeds that blocking out the St Augustine grass and other weeds that will not kill my runners underneath these weeds I'm starting to hand manually rip out these green flower weeds they spread evywhere and have white flowers blooming
I think it's called Florida pulsey
Is there a reason you didn't rake the leaves first?
Allen, can you apply blindside in the heat of summer or on a sunny day without hurting the turf?
it can be applied hotter than some weed controls, I think it's a 90 degree limit (but I'm not 100% sure as I can't find it on the label now) but either way it's best to spray AM or PM and not in the heat of the day no matter what
I noticed you were careful to not get the herbicide on the grass plugs. Is it okay to spray on established St Augustine Floratam grass during the summer months?
yes it works just fine on established St Aug but watch the heat - best to spray at night
Hey Allyn, you forgot to add the link for playlists! ;)
Is tenacity herbicide okay to use on st augustine??
Tenacity herbicide is also a good option. Cheaper too.
yes another excellent choice!
Tenacity is awesome! I just used it to kill some Poa Annua. You do have to be patient with it, though.
Msm instructions says not to use surfactant why do you use it with Blindside?
Allyn, I live in the northeast and I have a tall fescue lawn. I have some thin areas that I'm trying to thicken up but my main issue is that I have a weed infesting even some thicker areas. After doing some research I think it's corn speedwell? Any tips for controlling this weed? From what I read its hard to control with herbicides. Also for the thin areas, I just cant seem to thicken them up even with seeding.
Try a trimec herbicide. Be sure to use a surfactant, I recommend Bonide turbo spreader sticker. Also, using a fan tip sprayer nozzle will give you the finest mist and best results. It may take multiple applications. I have also read that quinclorac (commonly used to kill crabgrass) has some affect on this weed.
+DRWebster93 thank you very much!
