    Dean, outstanding video. You made the lightbulb go on regarding true position where many other authorities failed.

    very nice explanation, I finally get it. what if we were to also have an MMC on both the secondary and tertiary datums (B&C) in this case?

    Hello..so for the same example if the modifier had been LMC, the allowable tolerance for 1.02 dia (LMC) would have been 0.03 and for 0.98 dia (MMC) it would have been 0.07?
    Thank you so much for this explanation, Sir. You made it incredibly easy for me to understand.😄

    Hello Dean,
    You pointed to the tolerance.03 when you mentioned if the measurement is less… I guess you meant… less than .98.
    So in case, if the diameter is either UNDER or OVER, the part is out of specification. But some software still calculates True position for this feature when it’s at OVER size. Why is that?

    So let me ask you this. For example the hole is cut at 1.02. Max big. That’s .04 bonus plus .03 given. Total .07. Now go back to the basic dimension. Can that 1.00” dimension measure up and left both 1.07”. Or only 1.035” up and 1.035” left. Or could it be nominal at 1.00” up and 1.07” left. All from edges like you have it drawn. I guess I’m asking if I was using a center finder cone on my height gage. And I’m gonna measure the 1.00” dimension both ways. Up and down. And then flip the part and do the other side, up and down. Can that part measure 1.07” both ways and still be good?

    If the hole actual size is 1.02 then will get positive tolerance of .05 or it will be +/- .05 and if we can write is it like 1.02+/- .07, and allowable tolerance will be .95 to 1.09
    ?

    One question for curious knows... bonus tol is only applicable for position tol..or any symbol wil be getting it...pls explain..

    • @RDeanOdell
      @RDeanOdell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi,
      Bonus tolerance is applicable to features of size controlled with straightness, flatness, perpendicularity, parallelism, angularity and position.
      Maximum material boundary can be used with position & profile tolerance. This allows datum shift, which is different from bonus tolerance but has the “MMC” symbol with the datum reference so it looks similar.
      Thanks for watching & commenting!

    You have done very big mistake by marking 1 inch size at two places which creating lot of confusion, which 1 inch you are talking about. You could have given 2inch size for position.
