    Reductions are the reason I still need english subtitles when watching to a movie. I wish I had a teacher nearly as good as Rachel back then when I was a kid and there were no Internet resources, since it's way harder to pick up those subtleties after growing up.

    No doubt! The QUEEN of American pronunciation.
    Now I can tell everybody there isn't a secret to sound fluent like a real native speaker the only you needa know is how to use the contracted forms and then liking the sounds with assimilation, elision or maybe an intrusive sound. Of course you OUGHT TO PRACTICE HARD. But do it little by little with lots of DEDICATION ❤

    • @gleisonmarques4052
      @gleisonmarques4052 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@VeddeRessa So frustrating , isn't it? I must say, though, that most natives just don't care when we make grammar or pronunciation mistakes. I've had the opportunity to talk to some Americans, and they would always affirm we learners must work on out self-confidence as much as as we do on grammar, pronuntiation...

    • @josephhalevy6782
      @josephhalevy6782 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We Americans, tend to have the opposite challenge. We can pronounce and understand American English but we need help when it comes to spelling. This is because we were blessed with letters and each letter may represent several sounds. Most pronunciation rules have many exceptions. We have a few rules that have fewer exceptions than the average rule and we become excited to encounter those but ... the English writing system is beginning to look a lot like China’s. The average educated American knows, I would say, about 20 thousand words but we use about a quarter of that number on a daily basis. I think we have well over 100 thousand words in English when we include technical or specialized language. An educated American will only know how to spell a fraction of the words in existence. The rest of the words... we misspell them or mispronounce them... or we ask or Google the right pronunciation or spelling. Same happens to Chinese people with their writing system!!!!
