Christians Are Murji’a | Abu Iyaad

Shaykh Abu Iyaad حفظه الله brings an interesting comparison between Christianity and the Murji’a. The Christians believe in the concept of ‘Salvation’, meaning Jesus sacrificed himself for their sins. Thus, all that is required from a believer is to simply believe, without the need to show this belief in action through righteous deeds and upholding the law. This belief is similar to the deviant beliefs of the Murji’a, who remove actions from Iman and claim a Muslim must only believe.
This is a great reminder for us to understand these deviant sects in Islam are not unique. They are beliefs that have corrupted other nations before us. The corrupted religions such as Christianity and Judaism serve as an example of what Islam could become. So we should be firm against refuting these sects and protecting Islam from becoming corrupt as well. The scholars of the past have fought against the deviants of their time and so we have a duty to protect our religion against the innovated beliefs in this era.
