    All Movies should be Lesbian Movies!

    • @Swimdeep
      @Swimdeep ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If all movies were lesbian movies, we would all be in trouble and less entertained. For too many reasons, the quality of many lesbian films is just awful. Here’s hoping that as LGBTQ+ gains more acceptance globally, the quality of lesbians will improve.

      They should do my stories! I do Westerns, Super Heroines, Adventuress, Martial Arts and more! Strong capable Women who don't run down Men, but can handle themselves in situations! I was doing Strong Women in 1964! Even during that backwards time I knew things weren't right in Movies and Comics.

    I appreciate this film in its entirety. From its excessive creative liberties through its irrelevant unrelated content. For I understand that expressing appreciation and gratitude to all the parties involved in such an endeavor like this one (where budget constraints are challenging) does require going outside the box to acknowledge their commitment and support to the cause. So, from my perspective, the film was made for the global lesbian audience and our friends and families. With an additional token of recognition for its release on a free mainstream media platform like tubi. 10 stars in my book! 🥰😍🤩😘

  • @jp171756

    I very much liked this film but like you, I agree that it takes them too long to actually get them interacting with the exception of literally bumping into one another together at the coffee shop. I love their chemistry as I did in City of Trees but agree that Looking for Her is way more polished. The trope works because they work. I hold Hallmark Lifetime-type Christmas films to a different standard. They all are variations of a theme with a quick fall in love within the week but I enjoyed this one more than most of the other queer films we are finally getting.

    • @100percentshipper
      @100percentshipper  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's very true, lifetime/Hallmark are very formulaic and it's good to have indie and sapphic made options!

    Really enjoyed this movie, for several reasons perhaps . We have so few holiday movies for our community (which means I will watch most anything) but I found it just lighthearted fun and don’t really seriously do much critical thinking. Although I do appreciate your thoughts about the movie

    I cant compare this one with City of Trees but perhaps with other cliche holiday films.
    I think if you think too hard about the movie more questions will pop up than answers.
    Then i realized maybe this is just for easy watching. Like it didnt have to make sense like most of the holiday films.
    I would have appreciated even a montage of how they got along as they really have diff lifestyles and personality.
    Having thoughts on the total elimination of the usual drama tropes with issues presented. Like they were said but never discussed. And maybe, sometimes, thats how it is irl. They just happen.
    If you watched A. Swarens other works, she totally went with a different style on this one. This is a nice break from the toxic representation in mainstream media. Wouldnt say its the best work from the creator. But I had fun watching it.

    Thanks for letting me know these are the same actresses who played the leads in "City of Trees"! That's always interesting. It may also be why I felt like I'd seen the dark haired woman before but couldn't place her. Did I hear you right that both these women are lesbian or bi? Or is it just the writer/director who is? It's great that they wanted to work together again. Maybe they know that fans like that, too. I will have to look this movie up to get their names & see what other films they've each done.

    For a second, I thought mine would be the only review of this movie on TH-cam then yours jusut popped up. I mentioned City of Tress for obvious reasons but did not compare this movie to that one. I instead compared it to, "Kissing Jessica Stein" and "Molly's Girl" as those movies also follow the girl posts an ad for another girl/pretend lesbian relationship plots. I did, however, mention the fact that the movie it 1hr 44mins and the leads don't meet until 45 minutes in. I really did like this movie aside from the confusing 1st act and parts of the 3rd act.

    Just watched it last weekend. That's how I found this channel. You've gained a subscriber, and I've been bingeing your videos for hours today!
    I agree with all your points: 1) The leads' chemistry is the biggest strenth 2) pacing is off. A lot could have been shaved from the 1st act 3) the "mystery" of the parents has a lot of build-up but fizzles out.
    It's strange. I feel it's similar to _City of Trees_ in that it does feel very Alexandra Swarens with her charm, slice-of-life kind of style and likable characters, but it's clearly dipping its toe into the classic rom-com pool without jumping in. So yeah, it's caught in the middle and left me wanting more.
    [SPOILERS BELOW!!]
    I kept thinking that the movie was moving towards: Taylor's parents did a 180 and she would feel (a) annoyed that they pretend they have always been the model supportive PFLAG leading to a confrontation about how they treated her, OR (b) resentful towards Olive because she earned their welcome so easily, and that would be their conflict before the big, romantic finale. But...nothing. They slept together, and then Olive woke up happy but left without saying good-bye? What? It almost feels like the script needs one more draft. Then it will be as polished as the film.
    It sounds as if I disliked the movie. Not at all. I liked it a lot and want to rewatch it. Olive is so lovable. Her humour and personality is almost too perfect. And again, the ladies' chemistry is great! I am now a fan of Swarens's work, watched _City of Trees_ after this, and will follow her future projects. It just feels that this movie is missing a piece and some grease to fire on all cylinders. Let's see if Tello Film's offering this year is any better.
    Thank you for making these videos! Your insights are appreciated. Love this channel and hope to see it grow for years to come. ❤‍🩹

    Just finished watching this. I'm a big fan of Alexandra Swarens and her fly on the wall visualization you talked about regarding CoT. I love the long, quiet moments... the 'in-between' moments that usually speak louder than the big grandiose revelations. The deep dialog and spiritual musings. Its why I love her work so much.
    So in saying that... this felt different, definetly that caught in-between the rom com and the indie vibe. The higher, slicker production value maybe gave way to depth? I enjoyed it nonetheless just on a much more superficial level then her other projects. And yes 40 mins before the leads met exhausted itself. I would watch it again but as many times as CoT? Probably not.

    Have to agree, the movie is really nice and a good Christmas movie, but totally agree fourth mins into it before they meet, I thought the same was a bit long before they meet, and then the movie started. And then a split second at the end when they got together. And yesss the same, I though maybe mum or dad was I’ll which is why they were more open. But it’s was a cute movie and I did enjoy it x

    I Loved City of Trees so much. I thought this one was kind of bland when it wasn't cringe-y. Some nice moments, but so little of it made sense. So many empty scenes. So little sense of their attraction. So little interaction. I was disappointed.

  • @Swimdeep
    @Swimdeep ปีที่แล้ว +3

    While I appreciate the effort, the writing needs to be stronger. Whenever there is a scene which has dialog that is dubbed over with music, the writing needs to improve.
    The acting is meh. The script and dialogue are clunky and leave big holes that left me at a loss. I didn’t hate it and the chemistry between leads is better this outing than in CoT.

    I like the story, but this was really painful to watch in my opinion. The editing was horrible, I've never seen an uglier cup of coffee or cocoa in my life! Continuity was way off. They could have shortened this by at least 30 minutes. I watched City of Trees a few years ago and it was just as slow as this one, but I remember liking it more. I was also looking for more information on the remarkable transformation of the parents. I don't mind a low budget movie, but it really dragged along.

  • @DonnaBrooks
    @DonnaBrooks 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Holy cow! It was *40 minutes* before the leads even met?! That is WAY too long!! It does sound like the movie had too many unnecessary scenes at the beginning. I saw this movie last Christmas & can't remember much of it, even after watching your review, so maybe that's why. I vaguely remember the one woman being late for work twice, for example, & I agree that we didn't need to see that. A simple line like, "I've spoken to you about this before: I need you to be on time but you come in late more times than not...," or whatever, would have sufficed to let us know this is a recurring behavior. Maybe the writer/director wanted to establish what the characters were like before meeting for some reason & it just didn't work.

    She thought she always had to be perfect and so when she com3s out it all imploded and now all of a sudden they’re ok and having her over so she’s like well I can’t be another failure with not being with Jess anymore and I guess admitting the failure to herself as well too much easier to have. A fake gf it seems
    She’s royally taken aback by all there accepting as she’s like why didn’t you accept me in the beginning and like most parent story lines they didn’t have the right words at the time and Taylor didn’t wait around for them

    I had very much the same unfavorable experience of Looking For Her, except my take on it is much harsher. As flawed as it was, I enjoyed City of Trees; however, watching Looking For Her was a drudgery. The plot was a total contrivance; the movie and the script did not take advantage of the one thing that made City of Trees work - the remarkable chemistry between the leads. It was nice to see Buckle and Swarens working together again; but sadly, for me, Looking For Her was unconvincing and uncompelling.
