While Pindus is mostly populated by aromanians, the Sarakatsani are said to have lived there before them. The reason this whole vlach-sarakatsani argument exists in the first place is because people used to confuse these two groups because of their shepherd lifestyle as well as because of their culture (Fustanella costume, clarinets, violins etc. But these are originally greek-albanian traditions, vlachs adapted those customs later). It's why some albanian vlachs call themselves sarakatsani even though they aren't. It doesn't help that the greeks used to call every shepherd as vlach. These are well documented, you can check Carsten Hoeg's work on the sarakatsani and their culture. You can also check John K. Campbell. At worst you'll see that their exact origins are obscure, but there is no evidence that they are or were aromanians, that's just romanian propaganda, created during a 20th century conflict between Greece and Romania about the vlachs, when romanians tried to establish romanian schools in aromanian and sarakatsani areas.

@@spar798 This guy spouts bs, the sarakatsani are a greek shepherd tribe originally from Pindus, Greece. While Pindus is mostly populated by aromanians, the Sarakatsani are said to have lived there before them. The reason this whole vlach-sarakatsani argument exists in the first place is because people used to confuse these two groups because of their shepherd lifestyle as well as because of their culture (Fustanella costume, clarinets, violins etc. But these are originally greek-albanian traditions, vlachs adapted those customs later). It's why some albanian vlachs call themselves sarakatsani even though they aren't. It doesn't help that the greeks used to call every shepherd as vlach. These are well documented, you can check Carsten Hoeg's work on the sarakatsani and their culture. You can also check John K. Campbell. At worst you'll see that their exact origins are obscure, but there is no evidence that they are or were aromanians, that's just romanian propaganda, created during a 20th century conflict between Greece and Romania about the vlachs, when romanians tried to establish romanian schools in aromanian and sarakatsani areas.
