One thing to note is the opportunity cost. What are you gaining by adding chickens to your farm.
If a single chicken uses 868 l of wheat/barley, then the profit to just sell that crop would be roughly $600 compared to the $677 you make with the chickens assuming a $700/1000 liter sale price on the cash crop. The problem is, this doesn’t take in account the cost of growing wheat over a more profitable crop.
In my own tests, I found that wheat produces roughly 3300 liters/acre. Corn on the other hand produces roughly 9000 liters/acre (these are estimates, would have to check actuals in my notes). With an investment in a corn dryer, corn can easily be sold for $1000. Considering it triples wheat in production and has a 33% higher sale price, you’re losing money if you don’t plant corn.
This is the major issue I’ve found with Farm Sim lately after doing some of these tests. Most of the animals aren’t worth the effort as it’s more effective just to cash crop. I’d really like to see prices balanced out lower to encourage the diversification of farms to maximize profit.
Let me know if you have any questions. If you do happen to do any more seasons guides, I’d highly recommend you first start at the base value of the game. What can you produce with an acre of land. All other decisions should be based off maximizing the profits off the land you have.

Can I point something out. You have done a great job on your seasons tutorial and what I’m about to say is probably splitting hairs. I think when you are calculating feed costs it should be based on the sale price not the cost of growing it. Because once you’ve grown it it’s worth whatever the market says it’s worth.

Where the Cornish Cross Chickens make their money is after the spring, the price per unit drops to zero (0). So when you purchase the chicken 10 at a time the service fee will be 8 or 9 dollars. They only take 6 weeks to grow. I play with a 24-day season schedule.
So if you purchase 10 a day each day they mature in two seasons or 6 weeks then you can sell them for 5 to 6 times the profit margin. The other chickens make their money by selling the male chickens for profit and keeping the females for 6 years.
However, the other breeds will make money in the springtime because you can sell them for a higher price. When you combine with the egg production per day or per week, it adds up. a 500 unit coup can bring in as much as the livery stable or more.
Also, you do not really see the economic value of chickens until year 2 and after that time.
    Thank you.

Great work with the test! I've been wondering how animals work in seasons, especially chickens.
One thing I've been wondering is when would the opportune/ideal time of the year be to buy the Cornish Cross chicks and sell when full grown? I know that the seasons menu has a "Price history" that shows the projected (and historical) fluctuations during the year, but it makes me wonder if animal buy and sell prices really do fluctuate at different times of the year or not. If it's not too much trouble, maybe you could test that as well in the next video?
I look forward to see what's next in your testing and Mod Review videos! Keep up the awesome work!

Maybe you could host in third person view. I don't think anyone has done that. Kind of a face to the voice as it were. Good Vid FC. Thanks for doing all the trial and error stuff for us

Great explanations in your tutorials with enough info to get started DOING! Thanks.
But... Any idea why Cornish are in the game if they have such a poor return? Are they there for a specific role?

I know im 7 months later, but if you look closely, if you have a lot of space, Cornish have the best imput to output profit. You can buy way more chickens and feed more chickens with the same amount of money.
if you just do 10 it's not a great comparison.
But if you limit your expenses to x amount a year, they look a lot better.

Its tough because of the amount of views compared to the work that goes into them makes it hard to see it as being worth it sadly
