IMPORTANCE OF THE DIAGNOSIS OF ORTHOGNATHIC, MAXILLOFACIAL AND OROFACIAL SURGERY
What is Orthognathic Surgery? In what cases is it indicated to perform bimaxillary surgery (maxillary advancement surgery and mandibular regression surgery) or maxillary regression surgery with mandibular regression surgery (mandibular repositioning), mandibular prognathism surgery (maxillary hypoplasia surgery) as well as the indications of orthognathic surgery and what are the procedures of Orthognathic Surgery (what this maxillary surgery consists of). Dr. Recendez Santillán shows some clinical cases (BEFORE AND AFTER) of class III (skeletal) patients who underwent Orthognathic Surgery.
Diagnosis in orthognathic surgery should include facial tomography (cone beam), lateral skull X-rays, orthopantomography, photographs and study models. Whenever maxillary surgery is going to be performed, it must be done in a team with a specialist in Orthodontics and Orthognathic Surgery (ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY IN ORTHODONTICS).

What is orthognathic surgery? What are the procedures of Orthognathic Surgery and what do they consist of? When is Maxillary Impaction Surgery performed? Dr. Recendez Santillán shows some clinical cases (BEFORE AND AFTER) of skeletal class III patients who underwent Orthodontic Treatment and Orthognathic Surgery. Some patients with severe maxillary hypoplasia will have to undergo maxillary advancement surgery or bimaxillary surgery (mandibular setback and maxillary advancement), and also some patients with long faces and/or open bites should be considered for maxillary impaction surgery.
Facial asymmetry should also be considered in severe cases for the performance of this orofacial surgery.

Disculpe pero no hay riesgo de problemas cardiacos como endocarditis o valvulopatía en un futuro por la intervención?
No, Se hace en un quirófano con anestesia general en condiciones de asepsia en un Hospital. También se prescriben antibióticos para evitar complicaciones (además de los antinflamatorios y analgesicos) Los problemas cardiacos futuros dependen de los cuidados como en la toma de los medicamentes, el peso corporal, sedentarsmo, historia familira (herencia). El paciente los puede desarollar a un futuro pero por situaciones ajenas a la Cirugía, Si el paciente tiene algún problema de presión arterial, circulación, diabetes, etc, tiene que manifestarlo en la Historia Clínica previa a la Cirugía. ¿ antes de la cirugía ortognatica cuanto tiempo hay que andar los brackets?
Hola. El tiempo puede variar de un paciente a otro según la gravedad del problema, pero eso sí, es un requisito para que quede bien el paciente, ya casi antes de terminar, se hace la cirugía ortognática y pocos meses después se quitan los brackets. Antes de la cirugía pueden pasar 12 meses, 18 meses o hasta 2 años, pues depende también de la constancia a sus citas del paciente y como ya mencioné antes de la severidad y planeación del tratamiento, además los pacientes no son todos iguales y tampoco responden de la misma forma.
