Isn't it funny how some plants will and won't take? I'm very lucky that I can grow lavender in my garden in Andalusia, Spain... But cannot get any Bougainvillea to grow for love nor money!!! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Gorgeous. Our Hidcote stayed smallish for a few years and had softer blooms, not as rich as yours. Our Dentata got quite woody after two or three years and became too big for our front path. After removing them they put out volunteers in surprising areas and we love them. We now have 'Grosso' along the front path and they are wonderful. My wife makes beautiful 'wands' out of the blossoms.Thank you!

Laura the way you have planted the lavender around the vegetable garden looks so beautiful. No matter how many Garden Answer videos I watch the beauty of this garden never ceases to amaze me. It's stunning! Sweet Romance Lavender is a plant I love more and more each summer, we have planted lots in our garden and it's our favourite, it smells gorgeous and I find it seems to attract a lot of butterflies which is always lovely 💜💜💜🦋🦋🦋

I’m envious every time I plant lavender of any type it seems we get such cold weather that kills them off. I keep trying but success is difficult here in South Jersey. So far this year I’m just doing potsi could bring in. Good luck you must be getting the best smells. I got those green and pink petunias and they are really nice. I hope you recycle the cut lavender into the chicken shed or someplace to make it smell good. Good luck and happy growing. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️🖖🏻💪🏻🐾🐾🐾✌️🙋🏼‍♀️

The gardens are looking fabulous. I shear my English lavender down every year and they come back beautifully! The only ones I don't shear down so much are the French Intermedia varieties like Provence and Grosso, and any English ones that have already formed a woody base.

For the first time ever I cut my row of Lavender back like you did and they rebounded perfectly, and are now 4 foot high! Loved that advice. Never ever have my lavender looked so great! They looked truly terrible until I cut them down to the ground like you did! See how you change lives of gardens? P.S. Did the same with my Russian Sage that is planted between their lavender friends. And they are back about 2.5 ft. high now! Hugs!

Hi Laura and Aaron! Your lavender is beautiful! I love it against your black fence. I grew lavender in a pot for several years, but didn't know it needed cut back, and it got really woody and wasn't pretty any more. I've learned a lot from you and I'm trying a lavender plant my sister gave me! Thank you for sharing!

Lovely coffee with Laura and beautiful purple color! I like the idea of cutting the lavender back and want to try that when we plant some new plants. We have some established lavender that is huge and has a very woody base so it just stays that way but putting some down by our garden would be a good thought!

Lavender loves the heat, if you put it in borderline baking conditions it will thrive.
Had a lavender plant many years back which was potted. Put it on our old septic tank cover (cement slab), the thing radiated heat in the summer. Plant absolutely loved it to the point where I kept pruning it back every other month or so.
Granted I was fertilizing the plant as well, each time I pruned it the plant would act like it was stunted for a week. Always wondered if it did some damage, but after that week it would just continue intense growth.
Really loved that plant, sadly I had to move, put the plant in my car, but it wasn't a big fan at all of the new climate and slowly died (moved from Mississippi to Iowa).

Was just talking about lavender at one of the garden centers I go to. Have never grown it. But it would have hated all the rain we've gotten here (not Midwest where it's a crisis, but northeast where it's just been way above average). Most summers, tho, if I could find a place where it won't get watered too much, it would be great. That's why a hedge can be good -- separate from other plants that need more water. Talking about no drip system here!

I would use either half soil half sand or a cactus mix so you have good drainage. They don't like wet feet.

They do not do “wet feet”!
It dries out the Lavender very well before I watt again.

Beautiful! I've been watching your videos for the last 3 weeks and finally got up the courage to plant some flowers and plants. I live in Chicago and I moved into a new home on May 1st., We're also a zone 5. I went to Home Depot and purchased perennial plants that can withstand temps down to -30 and -40 degrees F! The day before yesterday, yesterday and today, my son and I finished planting: clumping Plantain Lily 'Guacamole' (a Hosta hybrid), mounding Heuchera: Coral Bells 'Melting Fire', and spreading Carpet Bugleweed 'Burgundy Glow'. I also planted some annuals- Petunias- in a container. I've never done this before and hope I followed your instructions enough for my plants to survive!
