I want to go to Trinidad next year for carnival but it’s only for residents. I play steel pan and would love to see the Panorama finals.

Awesome. I've been wanting to get a Jumbie jam for a while.
My ensemble does a Native flute,Ngoni harp, and hapi drum piece, but I hear a steel pan in my head rather than the Hapi, everytime We play it.

Hi Kalani, 5:25 I was introduced to the 'steel pan' about 47 years ago by a street musician from Trinidad and Tobago. His accent was so thick it sounded like he was saying "still pon." After about five attempts, I figured he was saying "steel pan." 😖

I personally know Shelly and Steve who founded Panyard. They left years ago and so Panyard now imports all their pans now. I’m a professional steel pan player, I get payed to play, who plays the tenor, not lead, and double seconds. Mannette didn’t invent the steel pan, he either created the double

Panyard was started by Shelly Irvine and Ron Kerns....I was playing bass with them at the time, we were just out of college...I transcribed a cassette they gave me of Boogsie improvising, and they turned it into a solo suite for pan...
