The worst consequence of using battlefield nuclear weapons is that many non-nuclear nations would come to the conclusion that the only way of every being truly safe is being in possession of nuclear weapons, leading to a global nuclear arms race.
Which is why even a limited use of nuclear weapons must be met with overwhelming force. The destruction of all Russian military installations, fleets. launch sites etc using conventional weapons if possible, but not ruling out Nuclear response if it's warranted. We would also need support from the Chinese and Indians that using nuclear weapons would be a red line that they would stop their support/neutral stance on Russia should they use nuclear weapons.

There’s a difference between tactical nuclear weapons and strategic nuclear weapons. Both are bad, but have different intended uses. Tactical nukes are supposed to be tiny, meant to level a battlefield area, while a strategic nuke is meant to level entire cities. The US abandoned its tactical nuclear program because they realized they were too unpredictable for containing or limiting damage against their own forces, as well as leading to an out of control nuclear war. Russia just recently realized the same thing, even though they spent billions of rubles over the decades building up their stockpile of them.

Example: "if you launch a tactical nuke, we'll ____", but Putin launches one that turns around a returns to the launch site. I remember watching “Threads” and its hypothetical scenario in which a full-on global nuclear war started because of a military dispute between the US and the Soviet Union in Iran. The use of nuclear weapons risk causing a cascading effect until we’re throwing the whole arsenal at each other.
I was 12 years old when I watched threads and it made me sick to the stomach with worry . Always remember the milk bottle melting . The day after was another one that was horrible. Hope these never become a reality.

Brig Gen Kimmitt has appeared on many media, as well as Gen Petraeus and Gen Ben Hodges and others, and every one of these fine Senior Officers has an amazingly sharp mind and so much knowledge of their field - and they are never *afraid* to state their honest opinion, as Russian officers often are. To my eyes, this is one of many factors that demonstrate beyond doubt the superiority of the Western military doctrine.

Russian officers, amongst other Russians in general are afraid to be openly honest about things because criticizing Russian leadership means imprisonment.

I for one will not be losing interest. I can’t speak for everyone else, but my vote is for you guys to do whatever you need to do. I don’t want myself or my sons dealing with this anymore than I want Ukrainians and their children. If I need to pay higher prices and not take a vacation or buy a house this year, so that millions don’t end up in trenches killing each other. I’m in.
The United States will be fighting ukraine whenever putin leaves. There's a reason the EU and nato won't allow them to join while the US has been sending people like McCain and Nuland over to support anti Russian nationalists and encourage them to murder their ethnic Russian neighbors for the last decade. The goal is to bankrupt Russia, leave ukraine in ruin and then take over when the nationalists start executing ethnic Russian Ukrainians. Plus, we've given them such good weapons that there is no way they can be allowed to keep them and still be nazis. They'll use them on their own people.

Just to give some european perspective: most discontent (except on the far right) is about our governments not taking enough countermeasures against the inflation that is happening first and foremost due to the war and only partly also because of the sanctions. Except for the far right parties (that happened to sign cooperation agreements with and take funding from Putin for many years) no one is calling to end the sanctions. We would like our governments to get their heads out of their arses though.

And I'm not talking about trade agreements between countries' governments for the sake of profit, however misguided they were, I'm talking about political cooperation contracts between far-right parties in european countries on the one hand and on the other hand Putin's party "United Russia" for the expressed purpose of spreading nationalist far-right sentiment in europe.

The CDU/CSU are textbook centre-right parties.
(And just to add - Germany's immigration policy is very far from open. Immigration to Germany as a non-EU-citizen is limited to skilled or highly educated workers and their immediate family members. Germany does however have quite liberal refugee protection laws - again, looking at them on the political spectrum, no matter what I personally think of them - even though they have also been limited in 2015.)
