This is still SO relevant, it's awesome to see you mention culture as it is often missed. Great video, thank you for being authentic and for your easily understandable breakdown.
Thank you for all your helpful tips and advise. I have had a home improvement business for 10 years now. I did a shitty job on the business side of things until recently. I knew how to do all the work just didn't know how to do the business side of things. Your videos have helped put things in perspective. I am going to try and implement some of the things you talk about on your channel. Thank you.
Everything is about your geographic location...I've had a Building and Remodeling Co.- here in the Philly area for over 30 years...Profit depends on so many factors that; quantifying a specific path is difficult to construe. Rule of thumb; Charge more than it cost to do the project and save your money...No two projects are alike in ANY way imaginable...So; you're flying on a wing and a prayer most often...I've been rich and poor dozens of times...8 presidents, 6 downturns, 1 collapse, 3-4 recessions, labor shortages...A GODDAMN pandemic! etc etc etc... Guys born on Islands or mountain areas or rich areas are blessed...I have 20 guys in pickup trucks chasing the same nickel...God I love this business...:)
Thanks Tom! I came from Big Business / Corporate Culture. These are the same principles I am weaving into my growing company's culture. It is a challenge with customers at times because they are not used to smaller companies coming in with a professional outlook. They tend to want to nickel and dime vs quality. I believe in doing it right the first time and than paying more to do it over. So the question is do we try harder to educate the customer or just wait it out until we find more compatible partners/customers?
Thanks for the question. Position yourself as the expert by creating content...videos, blogs, write articles, etc... you'll attract the right ones then.
I can’t wait to smash this. Your topics are on point brother. You know exactly what you are talking about and I appreciate you making these videos. My success will come from videos and knowledge just like you are sharing. 🤙✊️
You may have already covered this topic, but, what are YOUR thoughts on working weekends? I see a lot of contractors who work “bankers hours” and leave a lot of jobs waiting.
I watch your videos all the time , I have a HardWood Flooring Business and I feel like my leadership is the weakest & I am comfortable in the high quality because I feel like that’s what you just need to get money. It’s time to take the bull by the horns and work on my leadership
I am a one man show. And I seem to struggle every winter that come to stay busy. Its gets rough. I am a good installer but I seem to struggle making sales after pre screening everyone.I seem to get a lot of tire kickers. I advertise many different ways with not much success I don’t know what to do get get more leads and sell more jobs
In the electrical contracting business I keep finding peopl that want to buy material instead of me doing it and, or want to see receipts. How do I counter this?
Hi! I lpve your videos. How do I motivate my employees to reach their individual Sales Goal? Reward system? Is it okay also if I warn them like if they go far below their sales target, they will also get consequences?
Thanks for watching. First, you cannot motivate another person. They need to have their own inner drive. Hire people who connect with your 'why' and are right for your culture. Create systems and manage those systems. Each role in the company should have outcomes clearly identified...if they don't hit the outcomes, then they can't be on the team anymore. Your job as leader is to support them...help them, coach them, equip them to reach those outcomes.Good Luck. Don't forget to join our free FB Group facebook.com/groups/thecontractorfight/
Hi I’m new to your channel. I agree with your content especially about leadership being the core. Subscribed and looking forward to more quality info. Thanks for you starting your channel. Cheers
Hey man, my dad has a general contracting remodeling company in Texas focused on remodeling apartments..right now we are making 7 figures with the company it’s doing okay but now that I have graduated and plan to take over the company, I’m seeing that the company is a little disorganized from a numbers point of view , and to be scale we need to organize that. I’m also trying to see how to grow profit margins as we do weekly work for apartments with painting but the profit margin is only 15%.
I’m trying to find a way right now to organize the whole numbers aspect of the company right now, trying to find a software or something to help organize the numbers like the payroll of employees, expenses, get all them numbers sorted out, then breakdown the margins, then after all the numbers are organized, start to scale with making the company have more of a social image as we use ZERO social media currently
This is probably one of your BEST videos. !!!! Thank You for your insight!
Great video !

I feel like my strength is my presentation but my rebuttals are lacking

What do you plan to do that will strengthen the business?
