I actually always really loved this song, even though back in the day I was no fan of most Adult Contemporary stuff. Mr. Beato really made me realize how this song subliminally got me hooked from the first listen.
I was a professional songwriter in the 80's. I wrote songs for Whitney Houston and many other well known artists. There were some amazing songwriters, producers, musicians and arrangers in the 80's and this song and record is one of my favorites written by legendary songwriters Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. Writing a great song is one thing, but making a great record is another and required the best of the best musicians, producers and arrangers. With that said, I'd like to give a huge shout out to the studio musicians who played on this record especially the amazing Robbie Buchanan on keyboards who also arranged the song. There were 2 keyboard players in the 80's that were the best at playing on ballads like "Never Gonna Let You Go." David Foster and Robbie Buchanan. They were masters at playing the piano and fender rhodes on a song and often times also arranging the song as was the case with Robbie on "Never Gonna Let You Go." The voicings, the rhythms and the dynamics of playing both piano and fender rhodes on a song and having them compliment each other is an art form and Robbie is a master at it. It's not an easy thing to do and also come up with the arrangement. On this record Robbie is joined by 4 other top studio musicians who played on so many hit songs in the 80's. John Robinson on drums, Nathan East on bass, Paul Jackson Jr. on guitar and Michael Landau who played the guitar solo. I was fortunate to have Robbie play and arrange a song I co-wrote for Melissa Manchester called "Your Place or Mine" produced by the late great Arif Mardin. Robbie is not only a great musician he is a great human being. Shout out also to Joe Pizzulo and Leeza Miller for the great vocals and of course the legendary Sergio Mendes for recording the song for his album. P.S. Robbie also played keyboards on the classics "Up Where We Belong", "Just Once" and "Wind Beneath My Wings" to name a few. 🎹🔥🎵

It's such a beautiful and complex song. I didn't read every comment but has anyone mentioned that when the vocalists sing in harmony on the choruses, the male and female vocalists take turns singing the high harmony? This is pretty unusual. In a normal pop tune if the vocals are being sung in harmony by a male/female duo, the female would take the high note. But they take turns! It's particularly evident during the shout chorus at the end of the song that the male vocalist is on top.
Excellent observation, I noticed that the second time around the chorus is singed, the female voice stands out more than the male one, and that contrasts the first run. It's a one of a kind song, back then you needed talent to write and perform these gems, nowadays, unfortunately...you don't need to know about music to make music😢

Lyric: I was as wrong as I could be To let you get away from me I'll regret that move for as long as I'm living But now that I've come to see the light All I wanna do is make things right So just say the word And tell me that I'm forgiven You and me We're gonna be better than we were before I loved you then But now I intend to open up And love you even more This time you can be sure I'm never gonna let you go I'm gonna hold you in my arms forever Gonna try and make up for all the times I hurt you so Gonna hold your body close to mine From this day on We're gonna be together Oh, I swear this time I'm never gonna let you go Looking back now It seems so clear I had it all when you were here Oh, you gave it all And I took it for granted But if there's some feeling left in you Some flicker of love That still shines through Let's talk it out Let's talk about second chances Wait and see It's gonna be sweeter than it was before I gave some then But now I intend to dedicate myself to giving more This time you can be sure I'm never gonna let you go I'm gonna hold you in my arms forever Gonna try and make up for all the times I hurt you so Gonna hold your body close to mine From this day on We're gonna be together Oh, I swear this time I'm never gonna let you go Oh So if you'll just say You want me too I'm never gonna let you go I'm gonna hold you in my arms forever Gonna try and make up for all the times I hurt you so Gonna hold your body close to mine From this day on We're gonna be together Oh, I swear this time I'm never gonna let you go Never gonna let you go Hold you in my arms forever Gonna try and make up for all the times I hurt you so Hold your body close to mine Oh, we're gonna be together Oh, I swear this time I'm never gonna let you go

Never heard of Rick Beato. What brought me here was an incredible song I remember from the 80s with power vocals that give me goosebumps every time. Used to get played at every junior high dance lol. So glad I’m old enough to remember this classic.
Rick Beato is kinda like a music teacher who tells us why a certain tune sounds so good.
Beautiful song. I miss you, Sérgio. 💘 😍 💌 💖 💓 💘 😍 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
The Best regards from Brazil | Um forte abraço do Brasil !
Lyric:
I was as wrong as I could be
To let you get away from me
I'll regret that move for as long as I'm living
But now that I've come to see the light
All I wanna do is make things right
So just say the word
And tell me that I'm forgiven
You and me
We're gonna be better than we were before
I loved you then
But now I intend to open up
And love you even more
This time you can be sure
I'm never gonna let you go
I'm gonna hold you in my arms forever
Gonna try and make up for all the times
I hurt you so
Gonna hold your body close to mine
From this day on
We're gonna be together
Oh, I swear this time
I'm never gonna let you go
Looking back now
It seems so clear
I had it all when you were here
Oh, you gave it all
And I took it for granted
But if there's some feeling left in you
Some flicker of love
That still shines through
Let's talk it out
Let's talk about second chances
Wait and see
It's gonna be sweeter than it was before
I gave some then
But now I intend to dedicate myself to giving more
This time you can be sure
I'm never gonna let you go
I'm gonna hold you in my arms forever
Gonna try and make up for all the times
I hurt you so
Gonna hold your body close to mine
From this day on
We're gonna be together
Oh, I swear this time
I'm never gonna let you go
Oh
So if you'll just say
You want me too
I'm never gonna let you go
I'm gonna hold you in my arms forever
Gonna try and make up for all the times
I hurt you so
Gonna hold your body close to mine
From this day on
We're gonna be together
Oh, I swear this time
I'm never gonna let you go
Never gonna let you go
Hold you in my arms forever
Gonna try and make up for all the times
I hurt you so
Hold your body close to mine
Oh, we're gonna be together
Oh, I swear this time
I'm never gonna let you go
Thank you very much 🙏
thanks 🤘

@@buckinghampalace4199 He did nothing but making this song famous worldwide producing it, only this my friend: if he didnt had touched in this you even woudnt simply had notice of this badass piece of wonderfullness as he had seen - and other productors that came before him to the song had not seen his particular and spectacular way. Only 'this' he had made to the song: he crafted this song to eternity (caution: explicit irony content in this comment)...
A song that puts chill bumps on me every time I hear it!
This song always makes me think of that Michelin commercial with the Michelin Man gently caressing the tire.
I can’t get the Michelin Man out of my head when I hear this.
Love the vocabulary of the lyrics. "Let's talk about second chances", the use of the word "intend".
The time where music was well.
What a melody !
Amo essa música maravilhosa ❤ parabéns Sérgio Mendes 👏👏👏
This song was not written by Sergio Mendes. It was written by husband-and-wife songwriting team, Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann.
a título de informação, os cantores são Joe Pizzulo e Leeza Miller; os compositores são Cynthia Weil e Barry Mann e a gravação, salvo engano, eh de 83. por fim, a Dionne Warwick também gravou essa belíssima música !!!
