- really dont know what i was thinking trying to ride up a snowy mountain but i made it!
I lost my seeing glasses on day one, then my front brake caliper bolts, then my speedo stopped working and i ran out of petrol... but i made it from Christchurch to Oamaru via the inland route. Day two set off on my own, almost got stuck in Danseys pass, my clutch stopped working, an hour ride that took 4 due to snow and the gates being closed with riders and vehicles stuck in the middle no thanks to having two different councils on each end that obviously dont talk to each other...but made it to the Brass Monkey Rally site in one piece! great to catch up with the familiar smiley faces and a quick helicopter ride. then home on Sunday with a detour inland due to an accident on the bridge... Rip Mike!!

The Brass Monkey Motorcycle Rally in Central Otago, New Zealand. attracts around 2,000 motorcyclists, its name comes from the expression "cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey" because the venue is extremely cold, being within 50 km (31 mi) of Ophir where New Zealand's coldest-ever temperature of -21.6 degrees Celsius was recorded.

haha yeah i wouldnt recommend it.. just incase you were ever thinking of doing a 1000+ km trip on a fully loaded 250 via snowy Alps with lost seeing glasses and no clutch 😂🙄😂

nah i would do that matey i use work on the farm we and the manger use to ride up like mountains and in winter have run ups up real thick as mud lol not good for the bike but heck of aye lot of fun buddy your bloody awsome least u got the sprit your real biker god bless u young one

I'm getting there. Got a helmet but going to upgrade when we are allowed into stores, just ordered a leather jacket today. Need to get some gloves. Have also booked myself into a bronze ride forever course. Gotta be safe!

Defo worth thinking more about getting a lil 250cc cruise around for adventures like this (although I love my Suzuki 650cc Bandit, it isn't quite as nimble on the ice) Is this the last year for Brass Monkey? 🙃

I've been in the snow twice on my Thruxton. The first was un intentional, the other well... mmmm.... also un intentional but I did do it to myself un intentionally. No tips though so that was good. awesome! :) oh yes me as well, it was more just for shits and giggles really, its been hilarious over taking giant adventure bikes up hills and watching them struggle picking them up... the gn is horrible to ride and slow but iv had a blast! cheers tortron for watching :)

@@yoyo2wheels ayyye yoyo , Im ok . I was back riding before I shoulda been first ride back on the saddle at 2 1/2 months to the day . Its just under 4 months now . knee is snap crackle and poppin like crazy but the pain is minimal compared to what it was and im going back to work in a week and a half . Hopefully I can do it cause this still hurts when im on it for a long time. But im gonna give it my all .
Otherwise im ok . Its getting better . Bike is ok too . My Fz1 has a couple small paint scrapes now but ya know . So do I . So it reflects its owner well :D
