    Cats are by nature, expert heat seekers, having your cat lying out on your floor is the only certificate of excellence and rating that you need, to know that your heating system is working like a charm. Good job at making this video. In Poland we install this kind of underfloor heating in new build houses as standard. Ususly each loop outlet has installed flow meter so you can balance the flows and take a note of flow on each loop and you can occasionaly check if the flow still stays on at correct level. The manifold with pump unit is mounted inside wall cabinet that fash with the wall for neat look.

    This was the best video on U/Flr heating I have seen so far. Improvements could have been a view and detailed explanation of the wiring centre and you terminating the pipes into the manifolds.
    I am about to buy and install U/Flr heating in my 2 extensions but am unsure how the zones work, I have 4 different rooms but dont want all 4 at same temperature or on at same time if not required, do I need 4 different systems of can this unit handle 4 different systems on a single larger manifold with 4 individual room stats?
    I also know the "am I getting divorced today or not" feeling, my missus wants a nice big house but doesn't want the mess and hassle involved to get there. 😮

    I guess those actuators are thermoelectric - slow but low powered and silent. So why choose normally-closed rather than normally-open? I guess the choice was made by Wavin or whoever made the controller, but wouldn’t normally-open give both a faster start-up and fail-warm rather than fail-cold?

    Great video and a brilliant channel. Looking for some advice.... Can I fit both a wet undefloor heating system like the one in the video and also then fit an electric underfloor heating mat? The idea is not to use both, but have the choice of which source of heating will be most cost effective in the future. It is a new floor consisting of 80mm insulation then 75mm of screed and tiles will go over the top. My original plan was electric mats because of the ease of installation and a smaller original outlay. My original planning for the project was 2 years ago and since then electricity prices have dramatically increased so I am wondering if it would be wise to put the pipework under the screed which will give me the option of a wet system if I decide to at a later date. This is for my wife's new boarding cattery so it is independent of the house heating system and due to our location the only current feasible option for a wet heating system would be an oil fired boiler and I fear that oil and fossil fuels will become heavily taxed and ever more expensive so it could be good to have the choice of which system to use.

    Hi. Thanks for the video. It is really helpful. I am installing an underfloor heating myself. Really appreciate if you can provide me a few suggestions. I have put screed on top of the heating system. Just wondering two things
    1)How long should i leave the screed before i do the flooring. Can i keep the room temperature at about 20 degrees centigrade (using a room heater) for about 7 days and do the floors or do i need to keep it for 21 days for the screed to settle and then gradually get some hot water through the pipes. Unfortunately this will take about 28 days which will be a bit difficult especially with a young child at home.
    2) I have a got 22 mm engineered wood for the floor. I was planning to put an underlay and put the engineered floor directly. But someone recommended me to put a damp proof membrane, followed by a 6 mm wood play (with large holes in it), then underlay and then the 22mm wooden floor. Is this required. Will it not be too thick under layer for the underfloor heating to work efficiently.
    Thanks in advance for your valued suggestions.
    Regards

    Not sure if anyone has mentioned this im sure they have but if not.. then ufh should always be zoned off if it is used in a system with radiators for the reason that ufh runs for alott longer than radiators. If it was on the same zone as heating then rads would satisfy the room stat and switch it all off prematurely before the ufh even got going.

    Love your videos! Your energy and enthusiasm are infectious! I have a standard heating system with radiators. I’m planning to switch to an Air Source Heat Pump, so I’m planning to switch to underfloor heating. Can I just use the existing radiator pipes to each room to supply the retro fitted UFH system to each room, rather than fitting a manifold etc? And would a standard thermostatic radiator valve above floor level in each room successfully allow temperature control of each room? Thanks for any thoughts!!

    Hello, very helpful video / guide! I have enjoyed watching a few of these plumberparts videos and non-coincidentally have just had my house completely gutted back to pretty much 4 outside walls then heavily extended (totally rebuilt new from a husk effectively) and have a couple of questions for anyone in the know which may be able to help advise on my requirements before i go ahead with the heating system install...?
    The place is a pretty sizable (4000+ sq/f in total overall) consisting of 5 bedrooms over 3 floors (loft conversion) with 4 en-suites (3 baths, 4 showers), with the ground floor having underfloor hydro heating (2000 sq/f) which is predominately open plan lounge / kitchen - with 2 receptions rooms + Utility + toilet .
    My plumber has recommended an Ideal Logic30+ along with a Megaflo water cylinder, my question is - When i look at guides / recommendations for boilers for the size of property it would appear I should go with a 40+KW boiler due to the amount of bathrooms etc - however - as I am using a Megaflo Mains pressure cylinder - does this mean that the 30KW Ideal boiler hes recommending doesnt need to be as powerful as the cylinder makes up the difference in power requirements? The other thing is - the plumber is saying that the Ideal Logic Plus 30 is a good boiler with a 7 year warranty and he never has any problems with them, I have had a few Valiants over the years and one newly installed one completely destroyed itself in about 5 years and had to be pretty much completely replaced with parts, so am now rightly dubious of the brand.
    Could anyone clarify the above questions and / or what would be the best boiler and cylinder combo based on my requriements?
    Any help would be very much appreciated. Ta

    There should be a high temperature pipe stat set to 50C to ensure that high temperature water is not pumped into the UFH loops. If the temperature blending vale fails that may the case with the pipe stat cutting out the boiler.

    Here's a thinker for you. I have built raised growing beds for vegetables in the garden, now UK isn't exactly St tropez but I want to grow all year round so I'm thinking of running a loop of this in the bottom of the each growing bed, so insulation, a loop of pipe, perhaps covered in sand to spread the heat then heavy duty polypropylene landscape fabric or a dpm on top to keep things separate then add the compost and connect to my central heating system. I may put a cloche on top like a small greenhouse. what do you think, possible? good or rubbish idea or any suggested changes would be greatly appreciated.

    James, can you have this on the same zone as other radiators, just wondering because of it having a pump on it too. It looks like this is a separate zone. We're doing a dual zone system (up and downstairs) on our house but wanted to install overlay UFH in our hallway, bathroom and kitchen. Trust it's just a wiring job to incorporate this into the existing zones.

    Good video bud, Question, is it possible to add underfloor heating to an existing system..? We have a bedroom, built off the house over a car port and its colder than the rest of the house, typical its the master bedroom too.... We were hoping to take the boards up, lay new insulation and then run underfloor heating in it off the radiator pipes. Can this be done, of course, I wouldn't attempt it myself, it would be done by a professional, was just curious? Cheers

    I have a question... So we have moved into a house with a concrete floor for our kitchen. We are about to have a funky resin floor laid on top, but that will still be cold on top of the concrete. So after speaking to a plumber, he suggested a low-profile underfloor heating system to avoid digging up the current concrete floor. As our resin floor guy needs a concrete screed to put his resin on though, can we put a flexible self-leveling screed on top of those low-profile Underfloor heating systems, without issues as far as you know? I'm struggling to get someone to give me a 100% factual answer.

    Hi, just wondering why you use plumbing components to keep water temperature constant when there is an electronic thermostat fitted to do the same job if the temp falls? Am I missing something?

      The reason why the temperature reducer is used is the health of people primarily and the degradation of the floor. The temperature of the heating fluid is usually somewhere between 60 and 70 degrees celsius, imagine what it would be like to step on a ceramic floor at this temperature. It was found that besides discomfort there were also health problems with the legs and dust rising. So the mixing valve is designed to mix the fluid that comes 70 degrees with the cold one exiting already in the floor so that it reaches a temperature of 40 degrees in tubes and 27 degrees at the floor level. The thermostats do nothing but start and stop the heating system between the user-defined temperature limits.

    We're just getting quotes for a heating system and the plumber says it's really expensive to run, so 2 questions really 1. Are you missing any arms or legs? 2. Is it something I could do myself? (I'm pretty savvy and have watched loads of your awesome vids)

      Laying the pipe is something anyone can do. It's easy! Installing the manifold is more involved and requires a fair bit of knowledge...all this typed with my nose!

    Hi, I'm renovating our house in France and was thinking of installing underfloor heating but am a bit concerned about the thickness off the stone floor going back down on top of the heating loops, I've done the DPM and base with 100mm insulation on top and was going to use 16mm pipe with a 20mm protective screed over the top. Once that's cured I wanted to relay the original stone floor but some of the stones are up to 11cm thick, with about 40mm cement to lay them on. My question is...will this be too thick to run effectively?
    Cheers Andy.

      Hmm they are VERY thick! Good luck lifting them. In the UK we usually try to get 75mm screed then add another 20mm for the tile/adhesive and that works fine. I think you'll be ok, but you'll have to run the underfloor heating constatly at a low temperature (like 30 deg) 24 hrs a day as the heating/cooling curve will be insanely long!

      Low kW output to UFH. In highly insulated homes t is probably worth doing to get rid of rads.

    Hi, my system runs way to hot, I can see that it only differs by 1-2 degrees on the water going in and out (41 vs 40 degrees). What should I do?

    Hi There. Cool video's. Looking at installing large system 12 loops. Have you ever come across a system heated by evacuated tube solar panels? i am in New Zealand so we do get a bit of sun to feed them :) What is the approx cost of the manifold and pump setup ?

    • @plumberparts
      @plumberparts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brian Burke In the UK you're looking at £800. Underfloor works well with ground source and air source, not sure about the solar side!

    Did you consider electric under floor? It seems that it would be less complicated to install.

    • @plumberparts
      @plumberparts  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not cost effective on such a large floor. But fine for smaller rooms like a bathroom.

    • @johnburns4017
      @johnburns4017 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have an all electric house, it is best to have wet UFH and a thermal store, so you can heat up the thermal store cylinder with cheap overnight Economy 7 electricity then use it during the day.
