  • Ibuprofen - Safe or Toxic to Dogs?
    Toxic!
Ibuprofen, aka Advil, Motrin, Midol, and Nuprin, is an over-the-counter Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory drug that is commonly used to treat fever, pain, and inflammation in humans.
But even though it is safe for us, it is extremely toxic to dogs and can cause damage to the gut, liver, and kidney, resulting in ulceration of the gastrointestinal tract, bloody vomit and diarrhea, black tarry stools, abdominal pain, pale gums, jaundice, and in severe cases, tremors, seizures, and comas.
Treatment includes inducing vomiting and administrating activated charcoal to help with decontamination of the gut and then administering antacids, anti-nausea meds, and gastro protectants to help heal the gut lining. In severe cases, your dog may need to be hospitalized to receive fluids as well as liver protectants and ant-seizure meds.
