If the reasons the total tax burden would go up under labour are because they want non-doms and private schools to pay tax, then actually the tax burden would not go up for the average person.

Exactly why this sort of analysis is pointless without the knowledge behind it. The take away from that graph for some is that that they would be paying higher tax under Labour, which unless they own a private school, own an energy company or are a non-dom millionaire is not the case.

@@dr_drWho owns sky and why might it be in their best interests to be ambiguous around Labours tax rises? That’s half of the problem for Labour. They could announce a 1% tax on multimillionaire assets and all the newspapers, social media and news channels would simply run with “Labour is going to raise taxes” with no context or further explanation.
I think they will announce some additional tax measures such as a wealth tax or capital gains tax. They won’t have to worry about misinformation and the average person will have a few years to understand that those tax rises will not negatively impact their finances.

It’s a bit misleading the graph about tax burden at the end. Id suggest that it’s quiet and unhelpful comparison because it’s important to look at a what areas I being tax ie top earners private education etc but also is worth noting things like the conservative manifesto make alterations try and get more votes so whilst on the graph may well short term show this we don’t have the precision or potentially trust in many cases of when the tax rise would come in from a conservative government to cover this short term gain.

The big problem with the "tax burden" graph is that it doesn't account for who's paying the tax. The Conservatives are taking money from average people and the other parties are taxing the wealthiest people and corporations.

That's not true, they're increasing capital gains tax, which affects any shareholder who sells shares. They're debasing the housing prices and thus rendering current ownership as a depreciating asset. Do the maths.

    • @andrewcharlton6080
      @andrewcharlton6080 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@itsundisclosedA couple of things with that, firstly they haven’t announced that so it’s still just speculation, secondly the average person doesn’t own many shares at the minute, average earners are concentrating too much on paying their mortgages, paying their bills and putting food on the table to worry about savings and investments.
So yes capital gains tax will impact working people but mainly those who are higher than average earners.
I earn less than the national average and even though I struggle I’d back an extra 1% on income tax and NI if it meant we could start reversing the damage to public services. If I can cope with that I’m sure those able to afford to trade shares can afford a little more too.

Other countries have a higher tax burden than us and outperform us year after year, like Germany. Theres a difference to a 38% tax burden on an economy growing at 2-3% per annum and a 38% tax burden on an economy that's basically stagnat with shrinking GDP per capita. The first is what Labour are aiming for, the latter is the UK economy under the Tories right here and now.

If we actually fund and invest in vital services - NHS, police, schools, prisons, courts - more people will be healthy, supported, educated, and be able to support themselves financially AND pay into tax. If people are suffering from untreated illness, postponed operations, lack of social service interventions, lack of mental health support, lack of SEND provision in schools, being robbed and stabbed, they're more likely to be out of work. I’m sure that down the line they will tax us for these green “investments” that will give us no short-term returns. Their non-dom clampdown will fail miserably, as they’ll all leave, meaning the labour gov will either borrow more or tax more to invest in things we don’t need. The Tories are right about Labour’s economic policy, but unfortunately they’ve absolutely destroyed the public trust and Starmer is going to waltz into Number 10 and squander any possibility of growing out of this crisis.

We...we 'promise' to do this, this and that!
Basically, everything that the othed main party hasn't mentioned, we 'promise' to do, maybe, at some point!

They have forgot long ago, who they were formed by and who they represent. Get rid of all diesel and petrol cars by 2030. What vehicles do the working people of this country drive? What can they afford to drive and get to shift in? Who drives electric cars? Rich people or they are leased through a company. Vote Reform or vote for the status quo.

It was the best of a bad bunch of manifestos. Public confidence is at an all time low and this is what our politicians come up with. A lot of it looked nice, but is it really practical or going to happen? Labour talk a good game on knife crime, they're the party who covered it the most, but really this issue is complex with a need for a holistic approach that is both affordable and workable. Labour's ideas seemed like pie in the sky. Also, mental health services in schools? Who is paying for that? How will that be delivered and by who? Mental health services in the UK are overstretched, woeful and undersupported as it stands. I wasn't impressed with any of the manifestos tbh. Labour's just covered more issues I care about as a city dweller who doesn't own a second home in the Cotswolds.

MPs benefited across the aisle from corruption, the notion that labour will change that is cute.
Green energy normally relies on soecific materials which are ironically mined in countries that are not friendly to the west, they are also hard to refine in large numbers. To power the uk on solar and wind, will require the land mass around the size of south africa which is 400x larger.
The cleanest and most efficient energy is nuclear energy, it just requires highly educated people to maintain it and these people are paid an absolute fortune for their skills, its not DEI friendly ergo hard to sell. 2 or 3 nuclear plants can power the UK with 50% reserve for 200 years and is clean contrary to the absolute garbage that comes out.

@@alanpage3973 Because we have been down the Conservative/Labour route many, many times before, and nothing ever changes. Each new government blames the previous one for the reason things aren't going as promised until we get fed up with the lies and vote the other in, and the whole circus starts again.
At least with Reform there is a chance of genuine change. Or just go and vote the same again and tell yourself this time will be different.
