I've owned the Disco Sport with the very same engine as in the video for about 6 months now and I can't complain. The consumption is around 10l/100km and the engine in punchy enough. It might not be the best vehicle for towing but I don't do any of that. 19 inch wheels make a huge difference in terms of looks. My Disco is the very basic one with a few upgrades. I've just been to Croatia and I covered around 2500km. The car is super comfortable, quiet and the best thing is that you don't see many of them on roads. Black interior is way better in my opinion. Great value for money. A good review mate.
Hi Tom. Great review. However, something to remember if you choose a Diesel engine and only do city based driving. The DPF gets clogged easily and requires a 20min non-stop freeway drive every couple of weeks to clear, or it goes into limp home mode and needs a dealer reset. My neighbour has a diesel Discovery Sport and it's a deal breaker....
No doubt you need to commit to semi-regular drives outside of stop-start traffic with a diesel, Matthew, and that’s a point I’ll make clearer next time. That said, it only needs to be above 60, and the car does give you a visual warning when the filter is getting close to clogged status. A quick blat after work or at the weekend will do!
@@chasingcars Agreed, but for my neighbour they only drive locally, inner city with no chance for that. They were more irritated that it wasn't pointed out to them by the dealership before they bought the car. They are now very frustrated - but it is a good learning experience! Which is why I bought a Petrol Velar....
Yeah, the dealers really need to educate on that point. How are you enjoying the Velar? Which engine? That vehicle benefits hugely from the aluminium platform ... crazy that it’s lighter than this Discovery Sport.
@@chasingcars I got a P300. It's pretty quick and fuel consumption isn't too bad. We average around 10-11 in inner city driving and on the freeway it drops to around 7. Overall very pleased. Internal space isn't as good as the Discovery Sport, but it looks much better on the outside. Interior tech is glitchy and I can relate to your experience of all screens going blank. Got the air suspension as well so the ride is superb, even on big wheels. The options are crazy though; you have to be pretty disciplined otherwise you can quickly blow your budget. Better stop now or this will turn into an owner review!
Eshan Mirash your friend is the lucky bunch. The reliability is just a gamble. I know someone drives his 2001 discovery, no drama. My wife’s 2016 RRS, broke down five times in the first two years and they couldn’t figure out what’s the problem was. That’s on top of many little defects (eg door handle broke, fuel cap unscrewed itself, just to name a couple). While they always offer free repair, it’s just annoying, you have to take time off and send it in and the mentally exhaustion to us. So we eventually traded it in after two years even happy to accept the low trade in price and pay the gap to LR finance. We may be super unlucky, but it did happen. On the other hand, my 2012 Lexus IS, never has any issue, not even a defect in 8 years, solid as!
@@siquanwu3131 Yes. Lexus is the reliability premium brand. The European badges are based on a three year lease mentality, after which, they don't appear to care.
Option, option, option, option. @Autoexpert did a similar comparison (premium vs mainstream) with a Mazda 3 Astina vs Mercedes-Benz A250 optioned to the equivalent specification. The price difference went from negligible to well into the five figure territory. Did something similar with the Hyundai Santa Fe and Audi Q7. Comes down to how bad you want 'that' badge. Personally, I'm a sucker for a Lexus. Even back in the days when it was a rebadged Toyota.
Is there any other SUV similar to this [perhaps subaru] who have the wrist band to unlock the car whilst keys are inside?, that's such a cool feature and a massive selling point for active people. Love your vids especially the puns in the Defender vid!!! Lol to you.

I used redbook.com.au to price one up since the Land Rover website does not seem to believe in price transparency. A 180 SE with driver assistance package (needed for adaptive cruise) and memory seats is $78.5k drive away.
Hi Tom..!! Have they improved the unintuitive, stupid electronics? I scored a 2018 110kw diesel in April 2019 when one of our reps resigned, and had to give up the keys to a 2014 130Tdi Passat wagon. The only thing better with the LR is road refinement....and not by that much..!! This LR DS is the most stupid modern car I've experienced. So often I have to repeatedly press buttons that don't respond, including the stop-start, slow screen response, boot-release button that often requires upto 6 presses before it opens, and foot-wave function has never worked...ever, except when you hose the car with water.....and then the boot opens....just when you want...not..!! Can I go on..?? Apparently 32k km service intervals, but service warning comes up every 10-12k kms(I drive a lot for work, BTW). Apparently 26k km AdBlue range...nup, try 10k. 500kms per tank vs 1100kms from the Passat....it's always in the wrong gear with a 3-4sec delay to kick-down...seats cause hip fatigue after about 2-3 hrs....I drove my Passat from Melb to Dubbo and got out fresh. Tow truck required at 60k k's....loose, rattly drivers interior door grab handle....stereo regularly deletes pre-sets(very annoying)....SatNav cancels set route if you stop for anything, requiring full re-entry coz course isn't saved until trip complete. Regularly dribbles diesel from filler-neck after fill-up, auto high-beam doesn't detect tail-lights in front, so your annoying the crap out of drivers in front, no radar cruise or lane assist at $70k...??? There's more, but even I'm getting bored now. SERIOUSLY.....did anyone at ULR bother to use one of these as a daily driver...??? I DOUBT IT..!!! Don't ever spend your 'hard-earned' on one of these..!! Keep up the great work, Tom..!!
Goodness … I'm sorry to hear about your troubles! As I mentioned, the fault I saw was the digital driver display turning off once at high speed, which wasn't great. Sounds like you would have preferred to stick with the Passat. To be honest, I'd prefer a Passat wagon as well, though I understand most people want an SUV these days, and the third row is kind of this car's "killer app" which makes it so flexible. Perhaps a Skoda Kodiaq would split the difference nicely!

It was one of the options I was considering but went ahead with the Kodiaq, so glad I chose Skoda as have few friends with Landrover and when we go out together we always go in my skoda as their “Luxury SUV” is always at dealership getting fixed 😂
Late reply here. I test drove the Kodiaq and it's fantastic, but it's 'off road' capabilities seem limiting and with no full spare nor space saver, I am not 100% confident in taking the Kodiaq on any camping outings. The RS of the Kodiaq is fantastic but yeah, the whole no spare wheel scenario is a bit of a flag for me.
What I never understood about Land/ Range rover products is that how such beautifully engineered and built product are known as the ; “ least reliable automobiles ?!!!!! I always wanted to buy a three years old model that take advantage of the depreciation which obviously makes it more affordable but I never dared to do so !!! What does a Land Cruiser knows that Land Rover does not know :(

I know your an Oz channel but I think if you want to get more international views it would be good if you could convert the cars power into BHP or horse power as I've no idea what kwh means in terms of power. NOt sure why you guys use it when the rest of the world uses one standard?
I have always wanted a Land Rover. They look great and tick many of the boxes. However, everyone I know who has owned one (or leased) have sworn off any more Land Rovers due to serious reliability issues.
Like others have mentioned really like the look but I don't think I could live with the probable reliability issues. I can't see the Defender being any better either, and that'll be more expensive again. Cmon JLR, sort it out

If you’re going to go to a digital display for speed - it needs to be 100% reliable. Just lucky this was the base model which has a partially analogue display.
Chasing Cars 👌🏼 Land Rover seems to be at their best when they use the least amount of wiring possible. Case in point the last gen Defender. New gen, has totally jumped the shark.

I have a friend that has had one for 5 years (over 100,000 k’s) and they’ve had no problems. Just a couple of windscreen cracks

Hey Mike - thanks! Pricing before on-road costs for the D180 SE is $68k, and a steep $82k for the D240, because that tune only comes on the HSE trim.

Cool. I’m a big fan of the Kodiaq. Base and Sportline are really good specs. RS is a bit expensive.

A family friend had the same issue, its comical how such an expensive car has a common failure in such an important instrument.
