Great videos thanks - scarabs really are like hunting a wild creature. For those who can't kill the scarab with one shot, there are 5 scarab shells in a backpack hidden in the woodpile, which will upgrade your crossbow nicely.

Finally someone who knows what they’re talking about! Everyone else just complains about how hard it is to find these and it discouraged me, but you’ve shown me it’s not as difficult as they make it to be, thanks man
Hi Niqqa, I am glad to help buddy! On the 0.13 update they buffed the scarab hp, you still can kill it with the same setup but you need to it on your sight for the feather arrow bleed damage to do one or two ticks. Or you can upgrade the Marksman Cap to level 6 and kill it instantly.
Straight up the best grounded channel without a doubt.
90% of the bigger content creators for grounded wouldn’t ever know half of what they do now and add in their “guides” if it wasn’t for this god right here.

thanks PS, very helpful guide !! I was able to hunt down 4 scarabs on my first run using your techniques. I stayed back and watched their movement patterns and then moved into position and stayed motionless while they moved toward me, taking the shot at the optimal time. You have to treat them as skittish prey animals.

There’s a spot on the map with a backpack that has 5 twinkling shells so you can upgrade one weapon to level 8

Definitely upgraded my crossbow first, to make farming the scarab easier. Also upgrading the crow hat to level 6 helped a ton, too!

If you don't mind save scumming, what I did for the first scarab was:
1) Makes saves OFTEN
2) The reason is because once the scarab has spawned it is a persistent spawn so will be present on the map EVEN AFTER YOU RELOAD THE SAVE (some creatures move location (e.g. Ladybugs)
3) So if you see a scarab after you have saved, you can pretty much reload the save to track where its coming from; this way you can line up your shot.
NOTE: I found after the release of 0.12, scarabs now run from you on sighting you (no matter if you are moving or not) so using the above technique may help....
Hi Talis61, I don't think that saving the game is scumming. We all do that before fighting the Broodmother, right? Why would it be when hunting scarabs. I think it is a legit tactic, but personally, I like to have the "failure feeling" alive when hunting scarabs, so I don't use the tactic in favor of the "hunting experience". 😂

I never even thought about using the survey tool for the scarabs lol. Just been running around.
SheepAmongGoats, use it for everything! Finding crow feathers became so much easier. I even did a video to incentive players to use it, everyone just forgets about it.

Thanks, BOLADAO657! Based on my observations it takes between 1 or 2 backyard days and there are approx. 8 respawn points but I never got them all at once.

What I do is I use the debug menu t fix its spawn point and then survey and run over to it to find one also your bow doesn’t need to be lvl 7 lvl 5 is enough to 1 shot with splinter arrows and marksman cap
edE, the debug tool can be really useful, you are 100% correct. Adding some info to that, I think it is only possible to use it once per session, so saving and loading again would be necessary.
I love your shelves and how your chests are neatly tucked away. Any tips on how to do it?

I was debating a method to locate them but haven’t tested it yet, would lures or lure arrows help in finding them?
Hi Dodo, the best way to locate them is the Resource Surveyor. Lures have almost no effect on them, they just ignore it. There is also technic to build walls on their spawn points but I don't know if developers have fixed this exploit.

Does anyone know if the dev's are going to fix the multiplayer option. I still can not play a multiplayer game with my son, every time he try's to join my new game session, it comes up with a time out session error. But i haven't timed out at all and are just waiting in the menu where you pick on of the 4 characters to choose from.
Hi Michael, that is really weird and you are doing the right thing. I run a community project in which the game is connected with players of every platform (steam, Xbox console, Microsoft store, Xbox pass...), and doing it from the Lobby is the most reliable way. I would recommend you send an e-mail to Obsidian support, they do answer and give some assistance.
i can not find twinkling shells on the resource scanner. do i have to find one and kill one and discover the twinkling shell first?

Hi Stepid, yes. That happened in the 0.13 update so now you need your Marksman Cap to be level 6 to one-shot it. I will make a video update on that in September as more changes are coming.

Try joining then restart your Xbox and install grounded through the store or just try going to grounded and it should update
Has something changed becuase I'm not one-shotting scarabs with a level 7 X-bow and splinter arrows. I have sharpshooter mutation active and marksman cap on as well.
nevermind after some scrolling I see you said you need the marksman cap to lvl 6 for the +bow attack!
Have you got any tips for a console player like me? It seems Obsidian won't be giving us any slack when it comes to stuff like this, and I have your recommended equipment and a level 8 crow crossbow, coup de grass lvl 2 and sharpshooter lvl 3 equipped and I STILL can't one-shot them, and as soon as I hit them sharpshooter's pin down never activates and I just cant seem to land crits. I'm about to cry because I'm desperately trying but I just have no leverage whatsoever.
Hi Gidget, I believe that for console players there is an aim assist option. Check on game options but I am not 100% sure. Regarding the scarab, on the 0.13 update, there was a change to his HP, so now you need your Marksman Cap to be level 6 to one-shot it.

@@EverArtz, I haven’t tested yet, but before the 0.13, the smoothie liquid rage would do the job. The meal funguspacho is also an option.
@@ThePartisanSpy Well, I can safely say to you after having it happen to me 9 times out of 10, the health has been modified so that you HAVE to get that crit on Woah! mode. One hit from the fully upgraded Crow Crossbow with a fully upgraded Marksman's cap using Splinter arrows brings it down to 1HP. In fact, there isnt even a spot of red on the HP bar, so on all accounts it should be dead. But it scurries off anyway.

@@EverArtz, so you do need an +attack buff. Have you tried feather arrows as there is bleeding damage, but you can't let the scarab disappear from your screen. Another suggestion, some friends that play on Whoa! use the super gas arrow and they say it is an instant kill.

Hi babaganoosh, if all Scarabs are dead on despawned by digging a hole, the "Fix Creatures Location" debug feature won't have any effect on Scarabs.

Def will help, But if You use Spy Gear, as Mentioned, You Will only Need 1 Shot....
It doesn't help much as you need to one shot the Scarabs and the mutation just roots creatures.

Any specific reason why not to use the black ox crossbow?
Noobity, this guide was done before the Black Ox crossbow existed, regardless of that, you should aim to one-shoot the scarab asap to start collecting shells. So whatever you have first in hand that can do this, use it. 👍

Hi James, it doesn't die if you don't hit the arrow directly, right? As it is a one-use arrow, don't you think it is a bit expensive?
@@ThePartisanSpy Seems to be more effective than the venom arrow. Playing on medium the feather arrow wouldn't kill in one hit so I tried out the venom and gas. Venom was too slow and it would burrow before death. Gas works but I still make a direct hit. Farming stink bugs is super easy. The 4 near the red ant hill are where I get my gas sacks.
@@jamesbullo What setup are you using? I kill scarabs with one-shot with this setup: Crossbow Level 7 + Marksman's Cap + Feather Arrow. I like the feather arrow because you can use it forever.
@The Partisan Spy I was using crossbow 9, level3 crossbow mutation and feather arrow. And it would still have 1 sliver of health so I switched to gas because I have a ton of them. With the hat I can probably use 1 feather arrow.
@@jamesbullo yeah, the hat does make a difference. We can say that it increases damage by more than 10% as weapons upgrade from level 7 to level 9 it is a 10% additional damage.
I do have a question... since I have never killed one before, they are not available on my radar... so... how do I find one then? pure luck? I know its in the shed area, or at least I think... but anyways.. thats my question

You can also use super gas arrows with a level 5 or 6 bow they won,t kill it instantly but the gas’s will kill them a little bit after

@@ThePartisanSpy you need a few splinter arrows which aren’t,t that hard and then you need to kill the green shield big he can be found behind the fertilizer bag or on the deck scan his stink sac then you can craft them
@@omarkhalili6948, what I meant is that gas arrows, venom arrows, and lure arrows are one-time-use arrows. So it would be necessary to craft one super gas arrow for every scarab you kill.

All you really need is a crow crossbow at least lvl 6 and a crow hat, the other stuff is optional

My game crashes (it's freezing about 10s and turns off) after I try to upgrade any weapons from lv4 to lv5. I've already tried to verify the integrity of game files on steam but the bug has not been fixed. Someone please help me!

There's no water there atm, I suppose it will be fixed when launched for the live server.

Hi Wolf, you can do marksman cap + super gas arrow + crossbow, that will work. You can also add Rage Smoothie to the mix, but it is not necessary. Sharpshooter doesn't help with damage, so no need to use it.

Hi Drunkin Aussie Guy, most of the bugs from the new update area will drop that. The bigger bugs seems to have a higher drop rate of the material. Black Ox Beetle, Roly Poly…

I have a lvl 1 marksman hat and level 8 crossbow and still struggle to kill one shot... I've only got lucky when the scarabs gets cornered
Hello Flippant, on the 0.13 patch, the scarab got buffed. On the 0.14 patch, which is in PTS and coming live in 1 or 2 weeks the scarab HP will be nerfed by half. You can wait or upgrade your marksman cap to level 6 to one-shot them now.

Sleek!
Bulky for every armor will give you a bit more armor and durability.
Sleek will give a bonus different for every armor. The marksman cap bonus is +damage on ranged weapons.
I just tell my friend go get some and he gets like 8 somehow no wonder he used this trick because he used the same set up

c'est pas la meilleur façon pour les farmer : dans le sous-terrain sous la table prêt du vélo ( au nord ) en passant par l'entrée sous le cabanon en allant dans le labo , dans un des tuyau il y en a toujours 4-5 . facile de les tuer vu qu'ils peuvent rester que dans le tuyau, vous allez dormir et ça repop assez rapidement.

Hi Kitty, it was bugged and fixed it on the last PTS patch, so I suppose, it does. I collected it twice, before and after the patch fix, now I am waiting for the 'first' respawn.

In woah mode the one shot does Not work. Atleast not with cap, Crossbow 7, attack up drink, lvl 3 arrows ... without a crit.
There is a backpack with 5 free twinkling shells outside the woodpile near where you start getting on the shed porch by the wood. You should use thise to upgrade your bow again and maybe that will be enough to 1 shot them
@@ifisandor7844 It's not. Max level mighty bow with marksman cap and splinter arrows leaves it a 1% health on woah without a crit. Idk about elemental bows, haven't tried yet. Idk the scarabs weakness. couldn't find the info online.

@@ifisandor7844 Idk i gave up on the bow, I just use grenades now. Works like a charm and it's easy to get them.

darn thr weapon nerf is so bad now fighting starting enemies is hard with upgraded weapon .. its ok to make it harder but now its so lame ... we repair way to much and getting the stuff to do it with those weapon is so bad

hey,give me ideas of mobs to fight with 50 lawnmites,
Dr.Mite Lawn test results
here is the results of all our deadly creatures against every mob,
Infected wolf spider:half of a bar off and then it jumped all 24 test subjects were exploded and sadly KIA.
ladybug;
head-rammed all of them into a different save-file.
Sickly roly-poly and roly-poly:
killed test subjects after bounce or roll which is literally all of its attacks
infected mobs except larva:
threw bombs shortening the crowds slowly but shortly,there were no survivors except the things itself.
stinkbug and green shield bug:
do i even have to say,they don't even survive a tick in the smoke man.
Positive so far
Infected Larva:
Killed most of my 38 lawn-mites,all were killed but the beast itself fell to its knees as well.
Larva:
killed about 7 of the tested 29,rip them soldiers.
wold spider
killed 24 of the 50😂 fella got smoked within a few minutes.
ladybird:
unless its female counterpart they got absolutely smoked 😈 bozo was not ready for the lawn-mites hands.
ALL WERE TESTED POST-1.12 EXCEPT ACTUAL CREATURES

Inside 1.11 the pit-antlion would of got destroyed, as it couldn't kill lawn-mites
yet i do not know for 1.12 as it grants them with a new kill set and i will not research any further with them.While the strolling antlions were far more deadly as they could of burrowed underneath and killed all in one clean swift strike,although it often couldn't get it off due to staggering or stun, the mites would come out victorious within 1m 48s
I currently have 24 lawn-mites and i presume they will clap the lady red larva although i have done no test and can not confirm or deny if these results are accurate, i will conduct my research further later.
I also presume the lawn-mite's reign will be short-stumped by a black ox beetle
I have not tested
all termites (3)(counting in king)
i assume with enough of these fellas i could do the termite king with about 20 of these fellas

a scarab has all ready has went into the pit, when i went to check it was dead,cant even loot it.

fellow mites will not attack each-other i presume.

surely with a invincible shield durability wise and the beefiest armour would it die,well shields can break along with half of his armour durability.i don't need no totems to symbolise you shouldn't be too nearby the box,in a swift 29 seconds Pete was gone

Hello, I only play on hard and I found a very efficient way to hunt the Scarab, using the Liquid Rage Smoothie with the Spider Slider meal, making it so that I can get a single hit, Preferably use the smoothie with the gum because increases the duration of the damage boost.

Hello Percy, on the 0.13 patch, the scarab got buffed. On the 0.14 patch, which is in PTS and coming live in 1 or 2 weeks the scarab HP will be nerfed by half. You can wait or upgrade your marksman cap to level 6 to one-shot them now.
