Beowulf - Seamus Heaney: Part 2 of 2

  • Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney's new translation of Beowulf comes to life in this gripping audio. Heaney's performance reminds us that Beowulf, written near the turn of another millennium, was intended to be heard not read.
Composed toward the end of the first millennium of our era, Beowulf is the elegiac narrative of the adventures of Beowulf, a Scandinavian hero who saves the Danes from the seemingly invincible monster Grendel and, later, from Grendel's mother. He then returns to his own country and lives to old age before dying in a vivid fight against a dragon. - HighBridge Audio

The monster fighting is seriously cool, but what surprised me is how fascinated I got by the incredibly vivid depiction of their society to the point where I was enjoying it more than the action. I adored the descriptions of the tribes, their relations, traditions, worries, feuds, it's an absolute jewel of historical record.

I'm not sure why 2 people would use this comment feature for their toxic argument. First, even if "Sean Dafny" uses "black" vernacular, that doesn't make him (or her) black. And, "Marcus Segura" can have an avatar of Jesus holding a sheep, but that doesn't make him (or her) peace-loving. Both of you are internet trolls who have hijacked this comment area. A great poet of the 20th/21st century reads medieval literature and (so far) we get free access to the reading. I wish you could appreciate it

You post something here, it becomes everyone's business. As long as it remains where people can see it, it's open season. You took that risk when you decided to post on the internet. Racist text in all caps is kind of hard to ignore, which reminds me, capslock can be found in the upper left of your keyboard, you may want to toggle it off.
