Michael Daly lmfao. The bills owned the afc East from the late 80’s through the 90’s. The bills are the reason Miami never advanced in the playoffs. The knocked them out several years in that era. The patriots weren’t even competitive back then. You obviously weren’t watching football in that time or you’d know this. The bills were the elite team in the nfl back in those days.
The Patriots became a threat in 1994 and posted .500 or better 1996-99 with three playoff runs. The Bills had four playoff runs 1995-99 after collapsing in 1994.

This was 1999!! Can you believe the velocity of those balls from Marino's arm??? Like a rocket launcher. No human has ever thrown a ball like MARINO in the NFL ever!!
Wrong. He was always in over his head in big games. Defense doesn’t win anything. Run games are wasted downs. It’s Situational Passing and Situational Execution. Marino never executed to the situation. His one Superbowl, needing to score 24 more points (something someone like Brady would do) he instead threw two picks, failed on fourth down, and fumbled the ball
I'm a Pats fan but I really admire Dan Marino his passing and his release were awesome. I have mad respect for Miami and hope they do find that same qb some time soon and start winning again!

Peyton's been my dude for years, but watching him actually escape people always makes me chuckle. I always have to remind myself that Indy being in the AFC South, or the AFC South in general, is a rather recent thing.
Miami has not been good since the great Dan Marino its a shame he never won some rings he should of one a couple he one of the greatest qbs ever with no rings he still in the conversation. He wad the man if he played in this era he probably throw 60 plus TD easy
James M he was still a very good back and should be a HOFer (if he isn’t already) but after the season-ending injury in his 3rd season he was never the same. He lost a lot of his speed and explosiveness. He became mostly a power back when he was more of a dynamic back like AP or LT before the injury. Imagine he doesn’t get injured and continued to play with Peyton in Peyton’s peak. That would’ve been scary
Classic manning and Harrison on the last drive. I've seen that a million times over. The Z on a flat and X (Harrison) on a slant. Guy was unbelievable on them. He broke with so much explosion on the 7th and 9th steps. He made literally everything look the exact same, which all the greats do yes but he was the master at it. Wether it was a slantngo, skinny post or a corner post, or a deep In/ Dig, or a go and his insane comback. A QB's dream, best timing route runner maybe ever. In my opinion he's the 3rd best ever after Jerry and Moss.
The worse nfl team would stomp the best college team 100 outta 100 times! Take the the 2 or 3 best players from the college team and that's what the pro team is made up of! Half the best in college will never even sniff a nfl starting line up.
I’ve heard people say that Aaron Rodgers is the most talented thrower of the football in NFL history. Peoples sense of history is so revisionist at times, because you cannot tell me that after watching Marino in his prime or even in these highlights, that he’s not at least as great if not greater a passer then Rodgers ever was. On another note, this was a great and competitive game and they didn’t need special changes to the rules to make it a shoot out. They actually played defense and we’re still able to put up points.
They play defense all the same now. People saw the 54-51 Rams win over the Chiefs and just assumed the league had outlawed defense. What followed? Defenses figured it out and scoring plummeted, illustrated by the Cowboys win over the Saints a few weeks after the Rams-Chiefs eruption. People need to stop overvaluing rule "changes" because they're not changing anything.
The rules changes are significant, QBs can play longer and less beat up now. And its much easier on the receiver to catch knowing they're not gonna get speared by a 220lb helmet smash.
@@ag358 "The rules changes are significant" Yes, and it's made the game significantly softer. These Qb's and WR's are putting up inflated numbers, in much part because of how overprotected they are by the league. The degree of difficulty is not what it once was and everybody paying enough attention knows it, ESPECIALLY the former players of this and older era's.
I honestly kind of forgot just how quick and smooth Marino’s release is...amazing throwing motion. And he’s dropping dimes in there on a lot of these deeper throws, great accuracy. This was toward the tail end of his career obviously but he still had top tier ability without a doubt. Shame he played for an all around average or slightly below average team for the majority of his career. The years he has somewhat decent talent around him they usually went to the playoffs and would win a game or two...but never quite enough to make it to the big game. I also forgot how much of a beast Zach Thomas is...played 12+ seasons in the league, was a perennial pro bowler & multiple time All-pro selection. Led his teams in total tackles nearly every season he played. He was only 5 Ft 10 in. (Some say alittle shorter than that even) but he made up for it in brute strength, (he weighed 250+ lbs at his peak) and football IQ & killer Instinct. He was stout and strong, and pretty quick inside but wasn’t the fastest guy out there when in pass coverage or sideline to sideline plays...but he usually seemed to make most of those plays anyway. A dolphin legend, an NFL legend, the big hit he out of E James at 10:10-10:15 for a loss of 5 or so Yards was classic Thomas. He tallied 12.5 total tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 pass break ups, 2 QB pressures 1 Forced Fumble. Monster!!
This was Peyton's 2nd year. As a rookie, he really stunk things up. AFC East this year had Marino, Manning, and Flutie as QBs, and all made the playoffs.
Edge was one of the most talented backs I’ve ever seen. Even after he blew his knee out, he came back, with a slightly different style of game, & he was a difference maker. There’s no telling what he could’ve done if he hadn’t gotten hurt fairly early on in his career.
Can you imagine Marino with today's rules? Cant touch WR or QB, you could rape the WR all the way down the field in 80s and early 90s. They said his 84 season translated into today would be like over 6,000 yards and like 60 tds!
Actually, the old rules were before 1978. D backs could bump the receiver all the way down the field until ball was in the air. Before 1977, O lineman could only block with forearms, no use of hands. These 2 rule changes opened up the passing game. All quarterbacks from 1978 on had these new rules to benefit them. Marino was certainly great. But all his opponents had the same rules he did. Of course, the rules have changed since then, favoring offense a little more. His yardage stats would likely be higher today. But keep in mind, that other qb's in Marino's day, went to SB's, & some won them. Elway was a year older than Marino, went to 5 SB, winning 2. Kelly was Elway's age, went to 4 SB, almost won 1. Rule changes certainly inflate qb yards, efficiency, td passes, etc. But every game, including SB, has just 1 winner & 1 loser. Changing rules to produce more offense, as has been done, improves stats for both QB in every game. Rule changes do not improve win-loss records. DM had a very good regular season record, but only 8-10 in playoffs. That is something that won't go away.
Claude , marino’s Numbers dwarfed all his contemporaries ( Elway, Montana, kelly etc) . You’re confusing team success to QB greatness. Elway, kelly, etc went to more Super Bowls than Marino because their teams were better, not because Marino wasn’t better than those QB’s. He was better.
Those ppl who talk about Mahomes like he's the greatest need to come back and see the 90s qbs. These guys are some tough mofos who earned every penny not like the overpaid qbs now. These guys took hits like no other all while getting rid of the ball already or sliding. 90s sports is like no other, the best.

@@Orion2269 it's amazing how people, most anyway judge a qb by their rings. And your right, Marino in san fran would have resulted in a lot of rings. Buffalo would be 4 rings and Marino in present day new England would have as many as brady or probably more.
You can tell Marino had lost a little zip on his throws in his last season - and still had a better arm than most!
Back when the AFC East was a real division
It wasn't that "real" in the late 1980s, it didn't become real until the Patriots got going in the 1990s and then the Colts.
The Colts meanwhile were .500 or better 1994-96 with two playoff runs and in 1999 erupted to 13 wins. Miami has those six playoff runs 1994-2000.
Funny how they put the Colts in the AFC south and Miami in the AFC east. Should have been the other way around but the NFL couldn't have Brady and Manning in the same division.
These are my 2 favorite quarterbacks of all time. I grew up a Marino fan, and then went on to cheer for Manning. for a while I felt no one I cheered for would win a super bowl. I am also a Vikings fan. I know the Dolphins won many and did the 72 season undefeated. I was a Marino fan, and he left I stopped cheering for the dolphins, and he almost came to minnesota, but he was a shell of himself
Watching this was great. Sucks we don’t see many QB duels like this anymore.
Mahomes jackson
This is classic NFL gold footage. Wow. Manning vs Marino.
Man!!! This Dolphins team was good! Now they're missing Dan, Zach, and Jason. It's so different. Only Xavier putting on the show now.
Today, Joe Montana said in an interview with Men’s Health magazine that if he had to pick a “best” quarterback of all time, it would be Dan Marino.
The magazine made it known that “best” is different than “greatest”.
Montana also said he thinks Marino would be putting up amazing numbers in todays league.
7:11 Thing of beauty. Marino best passer in NFL history.
God imagine Marino in today's passing game with his arm and release and the high quality of receivers. And this is him as an old man.
he actually said he would throw 60-65 TDs
Dan Marino was such a great QB. I loved watching him play.
This was my first year following football. This game was the first of many times I was introduced to heartbreak as a Dolphins fan. I just want to see them win one super bowl in my lifetime....
Marino was the greatest thrower of the ball ever!!!
Quarterback is the word. He's the Best Period.
Troy aikmen

Steven Mauras lol
Aaron Rodgers
Steven Mauras believe it or not Troy has as much legends and can fling it. But he gave it up for the running game. He would have been up there among the greats

Believe it or not, when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's, Miami was in the playoff hunt almost every year.
Now, the Miami Dolphins are a losing organization from top to bottom, and it sucks being a fan.
@shaolin1200 The first football game I watched was the 1972 Super Bowl with my dad. I've been a fan ever since.
It could always be worse. I got to watch a couple great QB's, and I watched Marino his entire career.
Thank you for the reply!

@@kaybevang536 Well said! There's a lot of wisdom and truth in that.
This was 1999!! Can you believe the velocity of those balls from Marino's arm??? Like a rocket launcher. No human has ever thrown a ball like MARINO in the NFL ever!!
Dan is one of the greatest might be the greatest qb to never win a Superbowl

He is!

@@themothaeffinpooch1206 greatest qb to NEVER win a ring...
This was such a great game holy shit
Marino is underrated because he never won a ring, but he had a lack of support from his defense
Dan the man ! The greatest quarterback ever ... The king with all the jewels but never the crown . Dan Marino is the greatest . #13
Dan Marino had the best arm talent I've ever seen.
certainly a talent for throwing drive ending picks...
This was the year Miami had that epic collapse. Started 7-1, ended up 9-7 and got curb stomped by the Jaguars in the playoffs.
I'm a Pats fan but I really admire Dan Marino his passing and his release were awesome. I have mad respect for Miami and hope they do find that same qb some time soon and start winning again!
lol the Patriots these days definitely aren’t winning anytime soon
@@Serching4JerryGarcia
Nah we suck lol oh well we had a hell of a run time for Buffalo and Miami to take the reigns.
These were the best days growing up in Miami and watching Marino era Dolphins man. Brings back the great times watching the team. 23 years still waiting on that franchise qb…
Look at those qb's actually throw the ball DOWN THE FIELD. Bunch of wrap tackles, no helmet to helmet launching of yourself to tackle. Fantastic.
JC The Swede How the NFL should be
There was god awful tackling in that game.. WTF? you watching? missed tackles all over the place
And qbs don't throw the ball down the field today? And you talk like every play has helmet to helmet now adays.
Thanks for this I love watching classic highlights 🤘
When football was fun to watch.
before 'social media'
Back before they changed the rules to help manning finally beat Brady
@@homelander39 lol Brady even had a rule named after him. GTFO
Peyton's been my dude for years, but watching him actually escape people always makes me chuckle. I always have to remind myself that Indy being in the AFC South, or the AFC South in general, is a rather recent thing.
Love those old QB facemasks
These were real quarterbacks and these throws from Young Manning and Vet Marino are Unreal. Wish the game was still like this.
10:50 No matter what decade, Jets remained the doormat of the AFC EAST. Nothing’s changed. 🤦♂️
Edgerrin was a beast!
4:46 Amazing to see a Manning with this level of escapability.
Only a young Peyton,
Eli could never move like this.
Ask that to the 07' Patriots.

Eli had mobility once. On one play, one time: helmet catch.
Eli only needed mobility once to become a Superbowl champion.

Arguably the best arm(Marino) and mind(Manning) of all time in the same game. Pretty awesome!!!
Miami has not been good since the great Dan Marino its a shame he never won some rings he should of one a couple he one of the greatest qbs ever with no rings he still in the conversation. He wad the man if he played in this era he probably throw 60 plus TD easy
They had a couple of good seasons in the early 00s
Edge before the injury had the potential to be the best RB of all time. He was so explosive his first couple of years
James M he was still a very good back and should be a HOFer (if he isn’t already) but after the season-ending injury in his 3rd season he was never the same. He lost a lot of his speed and explosiveness. He became mostly a power back when he was more of a dynamic back like AP or LT before the injury. Imagine he doesn’t get injured and continued to play with Peyton in Peyton’s peak. That would’ve been scary
Good to see Andrew Luck kicking field goals
LOL...ya, he had that number for a couple years I think before changing to 13
The two best QBs to watch in my opinion
Lets all stop and think that Peyton manning and Tom brady could've played in the same division if the NFL didnt realign...
They did play in the same division until the NFL realigned in 2002.
They did play in the same division for two years
@@Tubeite whoosh
But they did until 2002
Im glad it changed cause we got those classic afc championship games!
What division are the dolphins in now, the SEC?
LOL....ya gotta wonder if Alabama could beat them!!
The worse nfl team would stomp the best college team 100 outta 100 times! Take the the 2 or 3 best players from the college team and that's what the pro team is made up of! Half the best in college will never even sniff a nfl starting line up.
Nice try with a funny, to bad the SEC is a conference, not a division.
Dan Marino my favorite QB off all times I remember imitating Dan when we played football best pure passer quickest release Mr.Isotoner
God I miss Verne Lundquist.
just the epitome of class
Doing college ball now. He has a great voice
He was awesome on SEC games on CBS
Korbin Thomas he’s been retired for a few years now sadly.
Wow, I forgot how good Edgerrin James was, damn he had burst, power, vision, speed, just a stud back!!!
@@ag358
"The rules changes are significant"
Yes, and it's made the game significantly softer. These Qb's and WR's are putting up inflated numbers, in much part because of how overprotected they are by the league. The degree of difficulty is not what it once was and everybody paying enough attention knows it, ESPECIALLY the former players of this and older era's.
God damn dat first td by Dan has such beautiful touch wish I could have gotten to see him play but at least I have youtube nowadays!
Peyton and Marino are scary similar both stand tall and throw dimes.
Was at this game. Gutted to lose. 1 QB had a HoF receiver and a HoF running back and the other didn’t.
I need this narrated by Eliot Harrison. His are the best.
Monster!!
Man Marino at 39 had a stronger arm than Peyton at 23!
Two of the 🐐 qbs
Peyton Manning = rookie
Dan Marino = veteran
Brandon Kohout I think Peyton was in his 2nd year
@@YoungChuy2398 correct.
2015 Peyton Manning =Veteran
2015 Dan Marino =Grandpa
This was Peyton's 2nd year. As a rookie, he really stunk things up. AFC East this year had Marino, Manning, and Flutie as QBs, and all made the playoffs.
Peyton wasn't a rookie
Edge was one of the most talented backs I’ve ever seen. Even after he blew his knee out, he came back, with a slightly different style of game, & he was a difference maker. There’s no telling what he could’ve done if he hadn’t gotten hurt fairly early on in his career.
I miss the three division set up on NFL
Even in his last yr Marino still had a few classics left in him!!
Can you imagine Marino with today's rules? Cant touch WR or QB, you could rape the WR all the way down the field in 80s and early 90s. They said his 84 season translated into today would be like over 6,000 yards and like 60 tds!
If he is so great why did he never win a Super Bowl. Great quarterbacks win
@@mshat18 so Brad Johnson , trent dilfer are great QBs then?
What a stupid comment . Great QB's don't win Super Bowls without good teams around them.
Cool. I remember Manning vs 49ers and Steve Young. That was a great game too.
When the AFC East was real division!
Peyton second year and there at 10 & 2 dam he was a hell of qb miss watching him play one of the best qb ever
Good lord if Marino had a good offense around him. They never did give him a elite RB.
Going to the Colts/Dolphins game today (11-26). Andrew Luck vs Ryan Tannehill is not quite the matchup this game was!!
The Colts blue face mask looks alot better then the grey face mask they wear now.
Dan Marino was the best scrambling QB in history of the NFL! 🤥
Something you’ll never hear!
lol....ya, I don't think I ever seen him run!!
greg garner he had less than 100 yards rushing in 17 seasons
greg garner next they’ll say the1999-2005 Browns had the greatest O line in history lol.
It’s so hard being a Browns fan but it was even harder to watch Tim Couch being beat to death week after week. I think he was sacked 60 times his rookie year. (I may be mistaken tho) but good lord I’ve never seen a QB take more abuse than he did
You don't call Marino best scrambling qb because he ran for alot of yds its because Marino had a every underrated ability to be in the pocket & avoid people from sacking him
Keep in mind Marino was in his late 30s in this game, still had a incredible release
I'll be honest: I forgot the Colts were in the AFC East at one time.
Sorry... Great highlights, though.
