It's what comedies are gifted for and to give the actors a lot more creative freedom, they don't always have to stick to what the script told them to do. And Scorsese's movies is very well known for the improvisation, he doesn't always like to stay in the script because it limits his effort like the Funny How scene in Goodfellas or Stephen Graham smacking Al Pacino's Ice Cream in The Irishman, Jack Nicholson making a rat face in The Departed, Leonardo DiCaprio dragging himself to a car where Belfort was high on drugs in The Wolf of Wall Street. It's no surprise he is gifted in that, like Scorsese said, most of the movie is improvised including this, Leo dragging himself and Matthew McConaughey's chest bump. Scorsese probably told Hill and Bernthal to argue a lot over a stupid briefcase and gave them more freedom to say whatever they want including the amount of F word they both say

Dude in actuality this movie was fucking fantastic. It had a completely different type of conflict than other films but it expressed it beautifully in how the characters displayed continuity.
